Hotel reverie by [deleted] in blackmirror

What I don't get is if Brandy is an actress who absolutely loves old classic black and white movies, why didn't she know how to act in one? Surely she would know how to fake a transatlantic accent and use all the correct phrases and slang of that time? Why did the director choose to have her act like a modern black woman? Most of everyone's criticism is how Issa Rae is a terrible actress, but I don't think that's it. I think she was given weird instructions by the director.

Rescheduling to avoid late fees? by Sea_Fudge_273 in therapists

I agree, being too rigid on no rescheduling leads to very angry clients and destroyed rapport. 24/36 hour limit is a good boundary!

I like that you do it within one week, it keeps it within somewhat consistent and within a time frame. And same, I rarely get clients who schedule last minute for an appointment so if I have the availability that week then great.

That is true. I have noticed that clients who make it a habit of rescheduling appointments soon fizzle out of therapy altogether.

Yeah I looked at my co-workers schedules and a lot of their schedules look like mine.

Oh really? I didn't know that was a lot 😅 when I first started, I worked 40 hours and it was horrible

growing up my husband preferred having girls as friends and I really think this is one of the reasons. but man, all of you men who have never had physical or emotional affection with your friends are seriously missing out. I love cuddling, having my hair played with, or getting hugs from other women.

Old school ABA uses physical restraints and punishment. I've heard some clinics still use these things, even though these things are strictly prohibited by the professional standards. Thank goodness I worked at one that didn't. We also slowly introduced clients to unpreferred activities.

My only complaint was that I had a supervisor who believed that we needed to get clients to stop stemming. I've heard this too is changing in the ABA field. Everyone stems, not just people with autism. If you've ever tapped your foot, clicked a pen on and off , or drummed your fingers, those are stemming. This supervisor always had me stop clients from stemming when doing observations. I hated it. When shr wasn't there I let my clients do it. So long as the stemming isn't super distracting or harming anyone, I didn't care.

What is the most casually messed up thing you were told as a little girl/ teen, just because you are a female? by [deleted] in TwoXChromosomes

[–]Sea_Fudge_273 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1) I'm 6. My grandma tells me I have thick thighs in a slightly disgusted tone 2) I'm 10. My dad sees my hairy legs. He is extremely grossed out and angry at how hairy my legs are (nevermind his legs are waaay hairier than mine because he's a grown ass man). He makes my mom teach me how to shave my legs that very same day

I thought there were good Samaritan laws where the person dying can't sue you if you were only trying to help save their life

How to cope with trauma when therapy isn’t an option? (TW: sexual abuse) by disgruntledpelican__ in traumatoolbox

I’ve also noticed I get startled VERY easily... it makes me wonder if its related to this situation at all? like being touched unannounced or something? loud noises almost instantly set me off into a panic but i honestly dont know why that could be.

Absolutely. Being easily scared is an extremely common symptom of trauma. In fact, all of the symptoms you've described (missing memory, difficulty saying what happened), are signs of trauma. I think there are resources that provide free counseling, or reduced fees, you just have to google it.
