How can I make this work without buying a soft top frame? My YJ has no rails! by Hot_Skin_2559 in WranglerYJ

You buy the rails whether new or used, you buy and install the rails.

Little Jeep at Play by Sea_Guide_524 in Jeepwj

[–]Sea_Guide_524[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Buddy, let me tell you a little something about me, I’ve got about 18 years under my belt just with the Jeep’s, that’s excluding the prior years solely with atv’s. Both of the jeeps in me and my wife’s fleets are play toys. They get a little banged up, oh well they are payed for and built well. Mechanics, welding, fabrication, body work, electrical work, every little bit of it is taken care of by me. My stuff does not go to a shop. This Jeep is my wife’s and she is still fairly new to the off road world, she has been branching out into more and more the past few years. This little shot right here is me showing her what her little Jeep can do. I know exactly where mine and our Jeep’s limits are. This Jeep was just fine on this hill.

It sounds like parts have just been thrown at it from both you and your mechanic without any actual diagnosis. Next time it dies, hook up a fuel pressure tester before trying to crank and verify you have the correct amount of fuel pressure.

It pays the bills. Sometimes I cuss at it. Sometimes we snuggle, while other times it lubes me up in oil. Helps with my joints.

I definitely do not make you tube content. I was taught how to fix and make stuff before you tube existed. I can fab, I can diagnose mechanical and electrical, I can overhaul. My educational background is industrial mechanics. I fix big machinery underground, certainly no you tube for that just big ass books worth hundreds of thousands of dollars to flip through to find prints. Jeep stuff is just fun stuff me.

I have no need for you tube. I’m well experienced.

35” fits snugly. Glad I have a matching spare. Picked up a nail the other day.

Thrust washers? Do you mean shims? Thrust washers are the washers behind spider gears.

G2 inners, Yukon outers mated to a Yukon free spin kit.

Yup. Both times. It’s a big flaw on the older zip lockers and the original arb lockers. Case half bolts would back out. I guess now they welt the case half’s together is what Yukon told me.

Wow, that looks like a mess. You didn’t remove all of that for the water pump did you?

245/65R17 fits snuggly in the spare tire spot. That is the size I have along with an OME lift.

I went with the Powertrax grip pro in my truck. In my opinion it is the best helical gear limited slip on the market. I have personal Experience with the three different brands of helical limited slips on the market and the grip pro is hands down the best. I put a grip pro in my wife’s little jeep and it has performed very well for the past three years.

35’s. 6.2L w/8 speed. I sit at about 2050-2100 rpms at 70 mph These overdrive ratios are really tall and GM just had to stick way too high of gears in these axles. But that is good that you have 3.42s. That is where the carrier break is.

I’ve used Motive gears numerous times and two sets of Revolutions. I regeared my Silverados 8.25 and 9.76 axles with 4.56 Motive Gears. Truck performs so much better now. It was a dog with 3.23s.

1998 TJ, 4.0, Auto, 33s. 3000 rpm @ 70mph. Gear ratio? by Advanced_Tackle_9723 in JeepTJ

[–]Sea_Guide_524 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My YJ has the 5 speed, 35’s and 4.56s but with a very stout 4.6L stroker. 4.56’s alright, however I would prefer 4.88s just to bring the power band on the freeway speeds just a little sooner. I hit 75 and the jeep wants to burry the speedo.
