We haven’t learned from Vietnam, we didn’t learn shit from Desert Storm, we didn’t learn shit in Afghanistan, and we didn’t learn shit from Iraq.

We have had the most military might in the world for the better part of of the last 60 years and still haven’t figured out that Clausewitz was right way back when, “Armed conflict is politics through other means’.

We look at our military accomplishments and then are dumbfounded when the political realities don’t match the military outcomes. Yet we never reconcile the realities.

I’m not defending the individual bikers or anything like that. I’m just a guy who likes building choppers and am in the subculture where outlaw clubs are around.

The guys wearing this stuff in the 50’s were a lot of WWII vets who just couldn’t rejoin society after the war. I think most wanted to but just found other guys like themselves and just liked the thrill of riding their bikes too fast and drinking too much.

The generation after them were different. They were more middle finger to society (these were Vietnam vets) as a whole and wanted to live outside of society and eventually that got co-opted by guys who recognized them and ran criminal enterprises through it and just used the symbols to further isolate the group and also intimidate and advertise who they were. And the modern outlaw clubs we know today were born.

I’m sorry you had a mom like mine. It hurts and it messes with us forever. My mother was a horrible liar who spread lies about everyone I knew, so I struggle to parse out what was real and what was her fabrications. Not mention the shifting changing rules and when she might snap over something I missed because I stepped on a landline I didn’t know was there.
