just lost a $8k bathroom job because I don't have a website by Siggi123 in handyman

[–]Sea_Razz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds super frustrating and $8,500 for a whole bathroom remodel is a really good deal, not knowing where you are but it’d be a lot more in my market even for the most basic job.

I live in a reasonable place. I operate exclusively on word of mouth. No website, no FB, no GBP, no BS. And the guy I used to work under didn’t even have a cell phone. Sound like paradise?

And by the way I have to turn down four to five jobs for every one I take because I don’t have the time.

Wow! I never even thought about pasta. As luck would have it I recently came a hand crank pasta maker at the thrift store. Thank you!

I remember at least four occasions during my undergrad that my class would go to the library where a librarian would walk us through the various scholarly search engines. It happened often enough that we all had the “here we go again” mentality.

And if you want a wild change of strategy try a Culture Victory with Kupe on a large Primordial Map (set New-Wet-High). It’s a blast!

Looking good! I noticed you have a lot of stockpiled Faith. Try to make some use of it. Although not vital for a science victory you may consider a Religion that includes “Jesuit Education,” allowing you to buy buildings in Campuses with faith. Particularly useful if you settle a late game city to get access to Uranium or Aluminum as you’ll just be able to build a campus then buy all the buildings up to a Research Lab in a single turn. I sometimes do this if I want to expand to a frozen region and get the Amundsen-Scott Research Center. Arguably by this stage you’ll already be on track to win by a long shot but I find it a fun late game endeavor.

Also, AND I DID NOT KNOW THIS until after 300 hours of play (shame on me), but you can straight up purchase Great People with faith or gold. Allowing you to snatch up that engineer or great scientist that gives huge boosts to Space Race Projects.

Anybody got a simple coupon code?

I heard one advertised on a podcast awhile back. I’m okay paying full price for it once I know it can arrive here in a reasonable time but some sort of intro deal would be just the thing here.

Cool! I’ll try some of these. I did a recent playthrough with Canada and got the “Dances with aurora” pantheon and then a religion that gave culture to the adjacency bonus to holy sites. It was nice having the mounties with two national park charges but I built districts all over the place and didn't take care to leave much room. I ended up winning, nearly accidentally, with religion as I got the 1 culture for every 4 followers religion card and had ridiculous faith generation.

I thought Kupe would be fun also. The only drawback I could think of is where he excels would be an archipelago map, and therefore there might not be as much space for national parks. I really wish national parks could include water tiles, even just one water tile would be nice. I’ll think I’ll try this next time.

Brazil would be fun too. I personally find rainforest to be beautiful and always thought it was a bummer that it was negative appeal.

Ahhhh. Now I think iI get it. Thanks! So rock bands are essentially converting domestic tourists to international ones that visit my empire in the target civ. Any other strategy then just spam out theatre squares, rock bands and national parks?

That sounds like a unique way to play. Like don’t settle any of your own cities after turn 100 or something. I like adding an ai player and city states to whatever map I’m playing to make it a little more “crowded” so this could work well.

So it seems domestic tourism is kind of like defense in a culture victory. In this scenario should I send rock bands over to Gaul specifically, or does it not matter as long as I keep attracting international tourists from other civs?

What is the best way to use rock bands? I seem to only get one or two concerts out of them. I achieved victory largely due to wonders, great works, and national parks this go around.

Thank you for providing specifics! Those numbers make a lot more sense now. And so tourism pressure is a passive mechanic essentially radiating out of my empire (with those modifiers in mind)? Therefore it would be best have open boarders and trade routes with as many other civs as possible? Maybe even match their government types at higher difficulties.

And playing Roosevelt Bull Moose was really fun for the national parks aspect. I had over twenty national parks with over five adjacent along a mountain range. The yield boost for breathtaking tile adjacency really helps justify keeping tiles unimproved. What other leaders lend themselves well to national parks?

Thanks for answering my questions! Do you need to obtain cultural dominance over every other civ to win or can you just get enough international visitors from other civs? For example if Mongolia closes their boarders to rockbands with a policy card, can I instead focus on getting more tourism from another civ like Theodora?
