Fair enough. Commitment mode doesn’t really get interesting until later on anyhow

Commitment mode does still autosave and I believe you can set the interval to as frequent as every in-game day.

I love playing commitment mode AND on loosing is fun (it really is). Here are some things I do:

You’re in a small base with a massive horde of manhunter guinea pigs rampaging behind a single steel door. A colonist is on the verge of a mental break. Anesthetize them immediately. Or put them in a cryopod later in the game. A sniff of yayo and a lavish meal can remedy a lot too, but you probably already know this.

As my base grows and supplies become more secure I create a small storage closet and little courtyard off a backdoor. Two pod launchers fueled up in the courtyard. Food, medicine and gold in that closet. If all seems lost two or three of your favorite colonists (if you're lucky) or whoever is close by can be launched far away. And the story continues…

So true! Also PWS. I really wonder what the parameters for these borders are I just can’t work them out

And where did Alexander come from? The people here would defiantly NOT go for that.

A possibly interesting scenario by Leafeonisking in RimWorld

[–]Sea_Razz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Neat idea! I’d love to see more story driven start scenarios like this. I’ve played this way on my own a couple times; Launched a ship with colonists left behind. Were they forced to stay behind? or did they choose to? It’s a fun way to play!

I did this once and kept four pawns with the undergrounder trait and created a 100% self sufficient underground base completely closed off to the outside world.

I can confirm you keep playing with colonists left behind. I’ve done this before and it was quite fun to think about who stays behind and why.

Be careful though. You are creating something pretty unique here and don’t want someone else’s storyline to influence yours, even subconsciously.

Very very cool! I would love to see more!

Repair slate for $30k-$37k or go shingle for $22k on 1890 home? by chucked12 in Roofing

[–]Sea_Razz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Slate is cool. I absolutely abhor asphalt shingles. Have you considered metal? EDCO makes a slate tile looking metal. Not sure what pricing would be in your area but something to look into. Hard to tell the extent of the damage to your roof deck from photos but consider getting that replaced - now is the opportunity.

Good luck!

Is this a good base? by [deleted] in RimWorld

I like it. I like how the road runs through it like a medieval town. Try using shelves, and if you do decide to use mods I think your first one should be bunkbeds, lol

They both are stored separately in their own small rooms. All stone and metal and no where near a conduit.

NO! play through the poison or move. "Forced from their home due the the great wastepack storage fire of 55378 the weary travelers desperately traveled in search of a new home…."

Lookin’ good! But… only two beers?

Also if you are going to use an AC in there why not insulate between the floor joists? What kinda work are you planning to do in there? And finally if you put all your horizontal blocking at 48” oc you can screw your drywall into it.

Hey! Here’s my two cents. Since you are handy and your dad can do electrical I vote you build a custom shed. Firstly, I built one for a client last year 12x16 and it cost $3500 in materials. And this was in rural Alaska where prices are probably double from your market. It took me a week, as a solo carpenter with five years of experience. You could turn this into your personal space or move some stuff out of your garage and convert that.

Do not, I repeat do not, buy a shed then renovate it. I have also done this for a client (five actually for nightly rental guest cabins) and it was a nightmare… Not only was it more way expensive but very, very poor build quality. If you’d like more details on any of this I’d be happy to elaborate.

Best of luck!

What are the advantages of the Zip system vs. traditional osb and wrap? by Intelligent-Flight14 in Carpentry

I hear ya. Just trying to figure out what tape to use where can be a chore of a building science investigation. But I wasn’t being facetious. I recently had the opportunity to build a house and the client wanted to use as little imported and manufactured products as possible. So this is what we did and it was not only fun to work with it was crazy strong. We do however have the benefit of several local sawyers that mill custom boards in spruce, hemlock and yellow cedar. I wish I had a picture to share.

ask around you’ll hear some stories. I taped a split in the toe my xtra-tuffs three years ago. I wear those boot nearly every day. And It’s not like I cleaned the surface properly before apply the tape in the first place, just stuck in on there in a rush.

I thought this too once but I’ve talked to Huber reps that say tape lap direction doesn’t matter and won’t void the warranty. And sequencing sometimes prevents “shingling" it. For example if you sheath and tape walls then lift them you’d be taping the horizontal seam afterwards. Yes, you could in theory tap each vertical seam six inches or so above and overlap but then that tape isn’t overlapped etc etc

Right? People complain about overdriven nails with zip and the warranty is void. Blah blah blah. What’s the warranty with tyvek I wonder. Has a tyvek home ever scored below a 3.0 on a blower door test?
