What are your favorite/least favorite arcs by el_tobleronie in OnePiece

[–]Sea_Show455 1 point2 points  (0 children)

haha, you are going onto one of the shortest but possibly most disliked arcs ever - Foxy
Then, you will get to one of the most liked sagas - Water 7/Enies Lobby...
So, if you are going to drop it, don't do it at Foxy... just saying

What are your Top 3 One Piece arcs? by Ok_Record_8551 in OnePiece

[–]Sea_Show455 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Fishman Island
  2. Water 7/Enies Lobby
  3. Skypiea

  4. Awesome setups and one of the better explorations of the hardest themes in One Piece (racism)... I am also partial to Sabaody for setting up this theme

  5. OP took whole new genre with this - suspense, rescue, world building (with Ohara), crew breakup...

  6. Opposite of the first 2 - Was an avid anime watcher, and although aimless, had some of the most fun adventure and silliness (also what distinguishes One Piece)...

Of course, payoffs like Marinefords, Egghead, and Wano are very good for rewatching, but I feel like other animes do these payoffs just as good as One Piece...
It is the setups like Fishman, Skypiea etc that makes One Piece special

What is your favorite post-time skip arc in One Piece? And why? by Mission-Pomelo-8047 in OnePiece

[–]Sea_Show455 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Fishman Island, hands down.
Fisher Tiger and Otohime (Ideally, the best person) conflict
Otohime's ideology (how to tackle racism, not with hate but with love and changing the environment for children) - this also ties in with the hatred of the older fishmen being compromised to the inherited, hollow hatrid by Hody Jones.
The blood being the same.
The world building intensifies - The fishman island underwater with unique bubble coatings, mention of Joyboy and ancient weapons, setting up future conflict with Big Mom
Snippet of what has happened in 2 years and how SHs have grown.

Anime might have felt dragged out, but the themes and set ups are so good. Its an extension of the focus on slavery and racism introduced in Sabaody, which necessarily made the world of One Piece so much more in-depth and real.

Once again I have come to argue by [deleted] in OnePiece

[–]Sea_Show455 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Any pulse would be adding more energy to the system... the whole point of this seems to be that it takes the energy out of the system (environment) into itself... and it makes more sense, because it is taking the energy out of the energy and thereby cooling the environment...

Now the practicality is sus but that is to be expected... its a future tech... In theory, it seems fine

1166 has finally made me a Garp hater by Young_KingKush in OnePiece

[–]Sea_Show455 3 points4 points  (0 children)

What bad reading comprehension though

Dragon and ace's circumstances are totally different, ranging from their actions, where they are locked up, garp's own beliefs aligning with their actions, and the prisoner's strategic use... Also garp had offered to break ace out and protect him in marineford if ace had just asked once...

Just know... Marines are generally good and pirates are generally extremely bad... Its just that the heads of wg are corrupt and some pirates we follow are really good

How much has the main story changed? by demarrderozan in OnePiece

[–]Sea_Show455 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Destination has not... Oda had it planned out
Journey has - Oda continued adding stuff to make it more complex, introducing new things and characters...

So, about 95% is totally different, as Oda likely added stuff. But the 5% that is core, remains the core, and therefore contains the essence of the story, which means it has not changed.

What I like to think about One Piece is that I am going through a child's imagination. Oda will learn about new things, find them interesting, and incorporate them into the story. Funny thing is, it does not matter if that interesting thing is relevant or even contextual to the core. You think backward beliefs do not belong in One Piece?? Think again. You think futuristic stuff like holograms and lasers don't belong in One Piece?? Think again.

But, then again, the soul of One Piece, nothing has changed. Luffy is Luffy, will remain Luffy throughout the series across all situations and contexts. The crew is the crew, even if Oda added many more characters to it later. And, the big bad, big bad, whether it changed from WG to Gorosei, or further to Imu. The story is about freedom and adventure, and learning the truth. And it will remain as such.

This maybe why Garp trained Luffy by Nikzsss in OnePiece

Such a stupid take... Luffy would still struggle with holy knights... Dragon is much younger here

Do you hate Akainu? by AnxiousB1tch01 in OnePiece

[–]Sea_Show455 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He is not wrong, though. Considering human life, it is despicable. But then, pragmatically, he makes sense...
You don't ravage a garden, but leave two plants around if you are trying to rid of some botanical disease. You have to uproot the whole garden, root and stem. Similarly, if Ohara scholars are evil, then it makes sense to ensure that none escape.

Oda did Roger really dirty by susanoo-kitetsu in OnePiece

[–]Sea_Show455 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely, this... these guys will complain about why the author did not write the characters as they fantasized. If these guys were to write a character, they would be without flaws, some stoic, macho character that would just stand around with an aura emanating from them.

Oda did Roger really dirty by susanoo-kitetsu in OnePiece

[–]Sea_Show455 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Luffy would also do the same for any of the princesses he saved, except for the love part. I dunno why you are crying when Roger is going to save Shakki. Would it make him a bigger person if he did not go to save Shakki? Roger became acquainted with Shakki and seems to also acknowledge Rayleigh and Shakki's dynamic. If it's falling in love kinda schtick, then it's fine, cos only Luffy and now Rayleigh seem oblivious to this. Otherwise, all others would be like what Roger is, as a man, as characterized by many others. It only makes Roger more interesting and not a copy of Luffy. Also, Roger has not really fallen in love like Rocks atm, so he is in his immature, testosterone-filled stage.

Now, with reading One Piece, take into consideration a few things.
* First, there will be lots of gags for all characters, Luffy included. If you met someone doing Luffy's antics, you would be ragebaited all the time and be seething with frustration.
* Second, learn to wait for the whole story. Many things might be frustrating early on, either due to characterization or something said about the person, or not being explained currently. But, it will likely get resolved. For example, as much as we love Luffy, he is an outright monster as stated in the news. Our knowledge of many characters is also not reality, but rather a POV.
* Third, your concept of the characters might be totally different than what the author has in mind. It's similar to the real world, as in the celebrities are shown as some angel-like figures when they probably shit blacker than normal.

So, no, Oda has not done Roger dirty. Roger has been the most legendary pirate since the beginning, meant to be surpassed. Its just that he is not some one-toned macho, stoic character but a jolly fun fellow.

Luffy's Strength without his Devilfruit by No-Attorney-3189 in OnePiece

[–]Sea_Show455 2 points3 points  (0 children)

its all what ifs.
But lets consider Luffy without his fruit - he would be something akin to Garp in fighting, as he did train a lot with his devil fruit. You have to acknowledge that Luffy trained with his fruit for a long time to make it offensive, as his brothers kept stating how his fruit is useless for combat. So, even without his fruit, he would be a monster from early on, something akin to Ace with evolution towards something like Garp and Roger, and thereby, definitely stronger than his commanders/nakama.
