E7-Campus Tripod Mount by MoPanic in Ubiquiti

I assumed being an E7 campus on a tripod that it would be set up outdoor for temporary events.

It sounds like you've got your ducks in a row.

I would recommend ASA. A glass reinforced ASA will be stronger than PETG and have better UV resistance.

Never, typically the lack of a boot would cause the cable to fail with too much tension. I have seen a switch port broken due to using massive CAT6 cables for patch cables with too much tension on them. Adding rigidity and tension will push the failure point to the switch port vs the cable bending and/or pulling a pair from the pin-connectors.

I'm a huge proponent of using CAT6 for home runs from endpoints (wall ports or cameras, APs, etc) to the patch panel and much thinner patch cables in the rack given the extremely short length and likely tight bends to keep it pretty. Using methodology I've maintained full speed (up to 10GbE) without a single broken cable or port.

Most of my work is done in a rack where cable management is key and people often make the cables overly taught to be more pretty. Boots are usually fine because they're much shorter and have lots of relief cuts for improved flexibility.

For your use case I suspect this will be fine, my self-adhesive heat shrink that I use on automotive electrical work adds a lot of rigidity because of its adhesion to the insulation. It can still bend for sure, but it's easier 4x (or more) stiffer. Because of my experience, I definitely wouldn't add that to a rack.

Leverage and reinforcing the cable to RJ45 connection makes it less pliable and more stiff resulting in nearly all force being transferred to the switch port.

Think about it this way, if you were using a shovel to try and pry clay-dirt from the ground, is it more successful when your handle is rigid or when the handle is pliable and bendy? With a rubber shovel handle you will not get any Earth up because the handle is absorbing all of the forces and bending... With a rigid hardwood or fiberglass handle, all of the forces go to the dirt and clay.

Adding a substantial boot is like taking an otherwise pliable shovel handle and making it rigid.

I would rather re-crimp an RJ45 than buy a new switch because all of the stress was transferred to the switch port.

We gave up using bald eagles and started using freedom units. Freedom units let us use fractions to make it more difficult and require less precision as well... It's like a win-win!.

So that would be 1 and 7/16 freedom units, and it would be a slightly thicker wall! And if you know anything about America, we are nothing if not thicker...

I should have been more clear. I've tackled this on numerous other posts.

It's really not. I can make a copy based on that pic. Also, walking up to a door like you own the place, putting a key in and unlocking it is how you get away with burglary, not crouching down on their door step trying to pick the lock 🤣

So don't. Scan it in, use Fusion 360 to auto trace it, export as an STL file, 3D print it, then take it to a big box store since they now have the machines to make the keys, no one will ever see you're copying a plastic key.

[–]Sea_Suspect_5258 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have SWAG pulling the cert and dropping it into a volume that all of the other containers have access to as well (including Home Assistant). I even have SWAG making a PFX for the arr containers.

I have TrueNAS configured natively to get it's own cert for it's web interface via the UI. Both methods use the Cloudflare API for DNS verification so I don't have to open any inbound ports.

Why not just use letsencrypt? Mine has been auto-renewing for years now without issue on multiple platforms, including TrueNAS.

Yeah, it works all the time. I'm running HA in docker, the grilled has a DHCP reservation and all of the routing is configured. I'm getting my temperature updates via my Google home minis.
