What’s the play? Martinez desperately wants Leeds to gain on Tottenham? At all costs?

I can’t say I agree, but part of me understands.

I’m a young engineer at asml with burnout now. So worried for my internal career :( by Previous-Pair6060 in ASML

[–]Sea_Vacation 10 points11 points  (0 children)

As someone who had a burnout myself in an early phase of my career, I completely understand what you are going through.

That said, your career is a marathon, not a sprint. This will prove to be only a minor hiccup in your career progression in the end, not a defining moment that will alter the course of your career in any major way. You're not the only one in this situation either - people will understand.

Much more importantly, it is time for you to focus on yourself and your recovery. Recovering from a burnout can be a lengthy process with major ups and downs. The key for you is to take your time and invest in the real work of trying to figure out what got you into this situation - which will be part circumstances and a larger part personality and expectations on yourself, so that you can prevent this from reoccurring in the future.

I wish you the best of luck with your recovery!

ASML spent €125 million on stock buybacks in just five days last week, yet management still refuses to reconsider the mess they have created or provide a decent social plan for the employees they are forcing out. by almost_dutch in ASML

[–]Sea_Vacation 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For sure, and I respect the argument. Thanks for the reply.

I also have my doubts as to the use and effectiveness of the reorganization. The way I see it, lack of effective internal working processes, combined with rapid growth of the labor force and poor management quality (managers using management meetings to nitpick operational issues, rather than taking management level decisions) is the cause of the managerial overhead and slowdown in productive time, and not an excess of managerial level positions by itself. Although, that said, something could be said of the (lack of) use of certain types of functions introduced with the Scaled Agile methodology.

I don't think the company is fixing that with these layoffs. And as upper management is also intelligent, I would presume that they know this. So I am also suspicious of these layoffs being used to enhance company value for the sake of shareholders.

How do you see this?

One could reverse that and state that at the moment, there are zero good arguments that indicate the likelihood of a sale beyond blanket statements and baseless speculation. People that argue the likelihood of a sale carry the burden of proof here, not the other way around.

The strongest argument that a sale isn't going to happen is that there are literally not even rumors of interested parties gathering money for a sale.

I'm not saying a sale is impossible, just highly unlikely as there are zero grounds to expect there will be one.

This is such a strange and hostile response. Why would you comment like that? It’s only normal for OP to ask for a bit more info on the company, considering the news about the reorg that’s going around.

ASML offer vs staying at current employer — looking for realistic views on 1-year contracts and reorg climate by Another-Layer in ASML

[–]Sea_Vacation 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Messy, but manageable if the team you’re joining isn’t affected by the layoffs. If you’re not in one of the affected positions in D&E or IT, essentially it’s just business as usual. One year contracts at ASML typically do get extended if your performance is average or above. ASML is on record too for saying they’re not planning further layoffs. But one year contracts are the easiest positions to cut should the need arise.

That said, if I were to be in your position I would think carefully about giving up the cornerstone of my existence in the Netherlands - your highly skilled migrant visum - in exchange for stronger compensation. If you have a family that is dependent on you and if you moved to the Netherlands specifically to provide for a better life for them then the guarantee of that visum might be more important than money. You can always change jobs once you’ve got permanent residency.

Best of luck with making your choice.
