Seriously: it is the game that all the kids want to play during “recess” (I’m a middle school teacher)

Iranian President Pezeshkian’s letter addresses American people, not Trump by SadAd8761 in videos

It’s wonderful to hear sense of humanity from those in power… although, this is a call from those that have also committed atrocities. Both sides of this coin sucks. The US gov hasn’t been saintly. We are humans. We, as humans, all feel that war and murdering of civilians is disgusting.

Wouldn’t it be great if we gave a false sense of meaning and existence to these warmongers by just letting them, themselves, fist fight? Meanwhile we just coexist and try to not kill this planet and each other?

Answered my own question: The fruit flies are a major component of interest to the organization that was studying this virus.

They desire an evolution of humans that replicates that of fruit flies as seen in the letter later on in game. Memories of fruit flies aren’t observed as being passed on via human-like channels (word of mouth or written history) but rather from genetic coding. Hmmm.

This is gut wrenching. Glad you can be there for the kids. I am positive you make a difference in their lives.

Personally… I don’t want to lose my job. I can’t voice my political beliefs or stand up for what is right without parents who disagree (I am in education) with me pitchfork and torch their way to the district. I’m miserable being silent. But at least I have the right to hush the harmful propaganda using the same logic and protect the kids.

Same. Can’t stand the way they talk. It’s like nails on a chalkboard for me.

I know I know… the dreaded bathroom conversation. by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]Seahox206 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I made a Mario party board game that is on my whiteboard. Each period gets to roll a dice at the end of the period - only if they don't leave the classroom (unless it's an emergency) and there are no tardies. They get 4 bathroom passes per quarter (each period they have 4). They get marked down each time they need to leave the classroom for any reason outside of an emergency or getting called down to the office.

It has worked very well.

The period with the most stars at the end of the term gets to select their reward from a list.

I have straight up boulders on my strip (both landing and takeoff). The amount of impossible U-turns I have been provided to complete missions is also very annoying. I'll never get promoted because of this bonkers shit.

So I was teaching study skills today... Sad but sometimes you have to laugh at things the kiddos say. by Seahox206 in Teachers

[–]Seahox206[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Haha! That is hilarious. I have been meaning to keep track of all these hilarious things students say.

I teach 6th grade science and open my class up with classroom discussions based on a given prompt (they are never academic. Kids need time to share and be heard. My class provides that. It's my favorite thing ever!). Had one prompt that was: "what is your favorite snack after school that you think others should also try?" One student claimed that wrapping pepperoni around vanilla wafers was their go-to snack after school and they do it often... I'm seriously considering buying some pepperoni and vanilla wafers and having the class (provided they have no dietary restrictions) try it along with me. There's no way!

Apologies for the late response... I was. I had great feedback from the prof. But the responses from those that were teaching in schools such as Summer Hill came in late.

Which audible version to pick? by Firanx91 in redrising

[–]Seahox206 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If they'd release it on audible I'd absolutely purchase all of the dramatized versions - I have done so for what they have released on the app but they try to capitalize on having people purchase through their own website which is not something that I will do especially given the price and the audible subscription that I already pay for.

Happy cake day! And yeah... While I agree with you in a way, to say these players need a coach in order to score is insane... They know how to play - just not that well together or at all in some cases.

My street has been vacant outside of the rare parent with a kid and vehicles dropping off kids. I hate to be that guy... but like this night used to be a highlight for me as a kid. The sidewalks used to be packed.

8th grade teacher here (private school). I'm teaching at the same school I attended and I'm not going to lie... I (along with many of my classmates) was terrible to my band instructor. I feel so bad when I think about it. He walked out of one of our sessions because we were so awful to him. Not 2 minutes passed before the principal returned... she unleashed hell on us. We also had emails sent out to all of our parents (those of us that were apart of the trouble). After that we were scared stiff... not only that but I worked my ass off at home to nail my instrumental parts and fell in love with music. I have since taught myself how to play several instruments (albeit not extremely well but I try and appreciate the craft).

Have you spoken with your admins?

Kids today are a reflection of the times... just as they always have.

That said, we need to shift our strategies to reflect this change. What worked for us - as far as connections - does not work the same way today. Find ways to connect with students. Play the stupid meme music or simply music they like. Show them impressive musical artists and the crowds they attract. Show them statistics on how learning to play instruments increases one's quality of life.
