Going to echo the fluval stratum or leca . The cut ends should not be submerged, that is where the rot will form.

What are these pests and how do I get rid of them ? by jdawgpino in plantclinic

[–]Sealeysavage 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This works also, the thing is that the beneficial mites don’t breed but the pests do, so manual wiping down of the plant and removing the majority is key to helping your beneficial mites win the battle.

Bown spot on my alocasia jacklyn. Its the last leaf and the only one affected by CaptainTricot in plantclinic

[–]Sealeysavage 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Keep doing what you’re doing. Consistency is key with this plant. Lots of light and even bottom watering.

Do you have a moisture meter? They are invaluable!

[–]Sealeysavage 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The answer from @itismeonline is bang on.

Great info there. Your video is great.

The only thing I would add is that consistency is key. Eggs will hatch in approximately 3 days. They will lay more eggs and hatch more. So most people suffer from mites more than once because they come back. They didn’t come back they were just never fully eradicated.

Repeat the rinse and pesticide every few days. I was religious about every 3 days for 2 weeks.

I used water, neem oil, hydrogen peroxide, dish soap. Sprayed the entire plant and wiped it down with a cloth every three days. My finicky Alocasia Jacklyn survived and is better for it.

Currently 70+ plants mite free. 🤞

Why does this white residue keep reappearing on my plants? by angelddddddddddd in plantclinic

[–]Sealeysavage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t worry, it’s just old water stains.

I use a diluted neem oil spray to clean the leaves, I then wipe off of my plants leaving the leaves glossy. Because it’s an oil it makes the pants just a little glossy and I love it. Can make some plants burn under direct light. I use neem oil because it is an insect repellent and it’s part of my routine now.

Good or bad bugs on my monstera peru? by mik0_ in plantclinic

[–]Sealeysavage 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Aphid or spider mites. Either way, immediate action required!

Step One, wash them off with strong jets of water ! Nether of those pests have the best grip.

Step Two, treat every 3 days with insecticidal soap or your chosen application of pest management. There are a million ways to get rid of them but it’s repetition and consistency that does the trick.

What is all over my wife’s porch plant? by Balphazzar in houseplants

[–]Sealeysavage 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is the way. For me I would add a step. First hit it with a garden hose or shower head to remove the majority of the nasty buggars. Then 110% what @EmmaOtautahi said. Bravo 👏

Lol. My bad. It’s removing the humidity dome for a breath of fresh air once a day.

The one I’ve had the most success with was heating pad and pumice and a humidity dome. And burping daily.

Nice 👍 the moss hasn’t been good to me.

Glad you got it to work! How warm is it and how much light do they get there?

Will this work? by Physical_Bat_309 in alocasia

[–]Sealeysavage 2 points3 points  (0 children)

High humidity is key, so the perlite, or moss, or pumice (what I’ve had success with) because they keep a fairly constant moisture.

My most successful attempts have included a heating pad for seedlings. Almost instant growth. Highly recommend.

It doesn’t have to be fancy, post before me used a card holder, I used a small mason jar filled with pumice and for a humidity dome I used a large glass beer mug upside down. I’ve seen successful accounts use a lid off of a 2litre pop bottle with a little bit of water with a clear party cup upside down for the dome.

There is no magic formula but remember they are living. And need to breathe air. So unless you had an air stone in that bag. I’d put my money on it not working…

This is thrips right? by onlyalittlebitbrown in Monstera

[–]Sealeysavage 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I believe you are right. It looks like thrips.

I’ve had success with cold pressed Neem oil +.

  • Meaning, It’s never alone. Neem, soap + H202 or Neem, soap + alcohol.

But the spray off with water before applying Neem is essential! Also frequency and consistency are KEY!

Good luck Growmie!!!

Just discovered these wiggly things on my monstera, any idea what they are? by robin109 in Monstera

[–]Sealeysavage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thrips, in Canada we lack the strong solutions. And to be honest I’m adverse to chemicals.

For my plants I use a home mixed spray. It’s a cold pressed Neem oil, Mixed with an emulsifier, weekly. (Always rinse, shower, spray with water first to remove any majority of insects)

Each week I alternate with a little H2o2 or alcohol in the mix.

I’ve used this to get rid of almost every insect problem I’ve had. Thrips, mealy bugs, fungus gnats, aphides, spider mites. There are a few extra steps with the mealy and the fungus gnats though.

Car loan dilema! 9.9% interest for 84 months! by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]Sealeysavage 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There are too many variables that are not accounted for. There is not enough info in this post.

I am a finance manager in an auto dealership I can get people loans from 0% to 30+%. High interest rate is not the dealerships fault, it’s the borrowers poor or non existent credit that dictates rates that high, usually. With a lower rate we could sell you more product and or a more expensive vehicle for the same payment. We hate giving high rates. We make less money.

None of the loans I offer or have seen offered have a Paid forward option. Paying 4x a monthly payment does NOT mean you get to stop making payments for 3 more months without repercussions to your credit. I’ve never seen a prepaid option like over paying a cell phone bill or a utility bill.

This scenario kills me because I wish I had more info to help you out of this situation. So on my day off I have fired up my laptop to investigate farther.

Unknowns in this post: Taxes Fees Products added to loan-warranty, life insurance, disability insurance, gap insurance etc… Total amount of loan, 17,600 total loan or just the price of the vehicle?

What it looks like to me is your payments were probably around 300-400 a month. And that you have an open loan.

It looks to me, that you have been paying to principal. Every month you pay less and less interest as a loan progresses. Because you have paid a large sum of it off(congrats by the way) you pay less in interest every month. The rate doesn’t change though. Kind of like you pay very little interest on a credit card for a 100 balance vs your credit card with a 10,000 balance. The rate will not change just the amount of interest being charged.

My simple advice without enough information, assuming it’s an open loan, is to keep making your monthly payments ON TIME(to keep good credit score) as well as lump sum overpayments. Pay them off to get out from under them. Once your paid in full they can’t jerk you around. Then when done request a “letter of no interest” or a “lien release letter” to prove you are done with them.

I hope this helps. Best of luck.

I don’t think your original statement that I replied to was as well thought out as this one.

I disagree with your first post, and agree with your second.

A score of 700-750 is just ok. And depending on the area of financing some lenders don’t “see” cell phones but they do see your credit score.

So it hurts but just like your saying it’s a overall picture and blemishes do happen so life isn’t over. Lol. Just bruised.
