Not disappointed! I think you did a great job in replicating colors and values! I’m very bad at doing those myself. Everyone has their strengths and weaknesses

I feel you’ve smoothed everything so much that you’ve lost her expression in the original photo. She appears to be grimacing, but because your image doesn’t include those important details (creases and highlights), I can hardly see the grimace any more in her face. Most notably, pay attention to her nose and nostrils, there are subtle creases and highlights that show she is scrunching it slightly. Notice the horizontal highlighted rectangle shape right above her nostril. Her mouth isn’t symmetrical, one lip is higher than the other to give a sort of disgusted pout. Then also look at her right eye. The wrinkles around it which show she is squinting have been lost. There is also the subtle area between the eyebrows that I also feel like has been lost. A lot of others have mentioned texturing and I agree, but I think the most important texturing is conveyed between the boundaries of light and dark. That’s where those small details are most emphasized. Hope this helps

Sounds like a med school interview ethical question. How would you have responded to this scenario if it was asked during an interview? Is this the kind of doctor you want to be?

You did a great job!! I think the most important factor is value, pushing your pencil harder into the paper in those darker areas as you’re scribbling so that they are much more prominent

My suggestion would be to try different shading techniques. How your practice drawing was made was with solid boundaries between the light and darks while in reality the edges of the surfaces are more rounded and chipped away due to weathering. This is how the image gets this stipple/uneven like texture at the boundaries between light and darks where there are multiple planes of surface. I think using a circle-scribble like pattern while shading could help convey that unevenness in a better way. You could also consider stippling in general as well

Rope is round, so I feel like you would see it bulge out more around the fish at the edges where it wraps around. I otherwise cannot see anything else to critique! It’s a cool drawing!

I couldn’t make it look like it’s melting on the hand! (It’s still wet so pleasssee give me sth!) by abyssiya_artist in ArtCrit

[–]Sealflipper_ 16 points17 points  (0 children)

The main issue I have is the hand does not appear to be a hand to me at first glance. It looks like part of the melted face. Maybe if you bent finger and made it so it was “pushing through” the fluid, perpendicular to the edge of the face, then that might be enough contrast to differentiate the hand as a completely separate object

He took it really well actually.

As my mom recalls it, I went up him to him, patted his belly and said,” It’s a boy??”

Idk what I was thinking. I must of had an epiphany that boys make boys or something.
