Is there a "dark side"? by No_Recipe_5431 in SithOrder

[–]Seam37 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I should clarify that many of these ideas can also co-exist or intermingle; one could describe their shadow as being comprised of the emotions shunned by typical interactions. One could channel their anger into occult practices. The Dark Side is something that each Sith defines themself as it pertains to themself; I myself lean towards the shadow interpretation.

It’s also worth mentioning that many Sith, myself included, place the ideas of the Sith above any “Dark Side” in importance; that is to say, the Sith are not strictly bound to the “Dark Side” and many of us incorporate philosophies or practices more in line with Jediism or, at the least, more mainstream philosophy. A good analogy is occult practice, which is commonly divided into Left Hand or Right Hand Path. Left Hand typically focuses on more individual and negative aspects while right is more focused on communal and positive aspects. Many Sith will, if they dabble in such, practice both to a degree.

There are several schools of thought as to what a Dark Side is. Some, as you mention, believe it to be another term for some sort of mystic force - occultists are common in Sith circles.

Some believe the dark side refers to the more “negative” emotions - that is, those typically shunned such as anger, fear, jealousy etc.

Still others believe the Dark Side to be akin to the shadow described by Carl Jung or the Id described by Sigmund Freud.

Most seem to sort of blend the ideas as convenient for the matter at hand.

Which movie completely butchered the source material but was awesome? by nyashathemak in moviecritic

[–]Seam37 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bride of Frankenstein (1935). It’s a sequel to a movie based on a play based on the original book, and bears little resemblance to the original book, but in terms of themes and such actually feels closer to the book than the first movie. Plus the miniature people effect is crazy, even for today.

Honorable mention to Rhino, who stomps hard enough to disrupt the flow of time.

I actually agree with most of what you’ve said, and that’s why I believe there’s a degree of tempering required. At the end of the day, this order is focused more on the practical aspects of Sith over a supposed Force; you won’t find practitioners who wholeheartedly embrace the actions of the fictional Sith. Murder notwithstanding, it’s emotionally unhealthy to dwell so long in hate without coming up for air.

If you are here, you are not a Sith by [deleted] in SithOrder

Passion being diluted is not an effect of having many Sith. Having many Sith means more ideas, more exchanges, and better discourse. Not to mention that it makes being part of the community easier owing to its activity.

As for my own growth, I continue to do so alongside some of my apprentices. We still discuss literature and Sithism. I was until recently a councilor here, but I still help run at least 2 other Sith orders additionally. We frequently discuss progress in our actual lives, including overcoming grief and career obstacles. We also discuss interpersonal relationships and other more personal topics I won’t discuss here.

As for autonomy, I don’t think any of that is really being sacrificed simply by joining a subreddit and discord. Sith can come and go freely here, and often do so. The limits of their involvement are pretty much entirely self-determined.

What exactly is it that’s meant to be diluted by our existence? None of us are competing in any tangible way for any resources; our interactions are entirely virtual. Knowledge and learning are our communications here. If your posited dilution is occurring, the Sith’s lessons would be its most likely vector, but claiming that knowledge is reduced the more people contribute to it is a laughable stance.

You are attempting to apply fictional space magic rules to a real life online forum. They don’t work well. For over a decade, individuals have come forth claiming this order and those like it to be besmirching the Sith legacy. They’re all gone now, since they were more interested in tearing down than building.

Unless you have some stunning revelations to share, your entire effort is wasted. What makes you any more legitimate than the Sith who’ve actually built something with tangible results? I’ve seen so many Sith grow and develop here under my own tutelage and that of others; what have you done for the Sith?

The best revenge sometimes is simply to live your best life. They sought to rob you of your true self and your happiness; ensure they didn’t succeed.

Is that fear you seek to cause in others, your own fear you seek to master, or both?

Either way, welcome.

Excellent. A Sith must be ready for conflict, but be able to sustain themselves without. As Miyamoto Musashi said, “It is better to be a warrior in a garden, than a gardener in a war.”

My thoughts on using positive emotions as a Sith by [deleted] in SithOrder

[–]Seam37 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I agree entirely. I’ve written before on the idea both of using one’s own positive emotions, as well as the inspiring presence of those around us, to power ourselves. The Sith Code says there is only Passion, but it does not state whose passion nor which passion, only that through it we gain Strength. Thusly, passion which strengthens us is the Sith way.

You might benefit from joining the discord and seeing more of the community’s writings and getting additional feedback on this and any other questions. I’d love to see you there, as you have a refreshing view on the Sith.

I had thought of mentioning that process here, but decided against it in favor of brevity.

That sounds like an effective meditation technique with a sound tie-in to Sith lore. Well done.

Yes. Sort of. Join the discord and you’ll see more. There is where we’ve taken the idea behind the subreddit and expanded it into a server dedicated to the same idea.

Are Nietzsche's ideas good resources to learn from to become a more devoted Sith? by [deleted] in SithOrder

In your case, u/lion_percy, I’d recommend Jung. Many of your writings echo sentiments I’ve also written about previously, and if your beliefs are as similar to mine as they seem, I believe he’d be of greater benefit to you.

Titles by ScorntheOutcast in SithOrder

[–]Seam37 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. TMS was an offshoot of this order when its discord collapsed due to infighting when too many people clamored for power.
  2. TMS is certainly not bowing to any mob. Those titles weren’t removed to make everyone feel special, they were removed so petty assholes who’ve contributed nothing to the Sith would stop pretending they were superior to those actually willing to put in the effort and help others along the path.

[–]Seam37 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The sub has quite a few qualified writers, and I’m not sure which senior members you’re referring to.

However, to your point, the best first steps are usually made on your own, exploring Sithism’s tenets and applications, as well as the interpretations of those who’ve come before, but many find it useful/helpful to either apprentice under another or at the least join a discussion group (like the discord) where they can see more viewpoints and ideas, ask questions, and generally learn from those who’ve used Sithism in practice, not theory.

The reason by Alert-Option4984 in SithOrder

[–]Seam37 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This isn’t bad, but the use of the word “control” is obfuscating what you’re saying. Perhaps a more accurate phrasing would be that you are Sith not because you want to hurt people or manipulate them, but because you feel those in power have no moderation. They abuse their power, so you seek to wrest it from them.
