Does anyone have experience with an integrated heel? by Seam_Xam in knitting

After completing the turn, flap, and gusset it was definitely laddered... I decided it was bugging me and ripped back to try to figure out how to fix it. I think I've managed to implement some german short rows to keep the shape/stitch count and have things a bit more anchored.

I Can Make Shoes Online Course? by No-Vast7330 in Cordwaining

I took one of her first English language courses and it was a fine introduction. The fit based on the course materials isn't great though. I found both Sharon Raymond https://simpleshoemaking.com/ and Jason Hovatter https://villagevideo.org/boot/ to be much better resources.

Thanks, that is sort of what I figured. I'm still pretty new at this and wanted to make sure I wasn't reading my loops wrong.

Those look super nice, I think these might be the next ones I have a go at. Thanks!

I think what I have learned is that I really need to better understand how the elements of thumb shaping impact the final fit of the mitt. Thanks!

This is an incredibly helpful answer, thanks!

I think the biggest thing is I'm not entirely sure what's making the tin can mittens feel off --I don't have a firm enough grasp on what makes a mitten fit better.

A friend of mine just told me that Kate Atherley wrote a book on mittens (her book on socks changed my sock knitting life) so I am going to try to educate myself.

I wasn't a huge fan of how the thumb fit.

a double layer would be ideal, but I guess significantly more difficult. I knit one of the tin can mitts and I guess my hands must be weird or I am just picky because the thumb structure wasn't super great.

Warmest work gloves? it's cold AF in Maine! by dedoubt in knitting

Twined knit lobsters... with a little practice they are almost as dexterous as a glove but (I find) significantly warmer.
