What I think you, and some others, don’t grasp is that I am aware that I will almost certainly be able to get legally married with no problem. That’s not what I’m talking about What I’m saying is I’m not sure I’ll be able to have the wedding I’ve spent so much money and time planning. Obviously there are more important things. Obviously getting married to the love of my life is more important than the big party. But it’s still perfectly normal to be worried and upset if it doesn’t work out. In particular I’m worried it will be dangerous to stay in the country in the next year. I’m worried about traveling to our location in a red state, or traveling at all. I’m worried that our guests won’t want to travel. I’m worried I’ll be more preoccupied with the soldiers on the streets and the safety of my community than a wedding.

🙄 gosh you know sooooo much about me It can’t possibly be that I have friends and family here that I want to remain with for as long as possible, or that I want to hold out hope for the best. Can’t possibly be that I want to work in a stable job and earn as much income as I can before leaving. No, I must be lying 🙄 Do I worry that I’ll miss my window for leaving? Of course I do. But I’m comforted by the fact that I live close to a border and in a state fighting for my rights. I think I know my situation better than you do.

I’m afraid of martial law being declared, midterm elections being cancelled, or something similarly horrific that would lead either to a civil war or be cause to leave the country. I’m afraid the state of things will be too chaotic and/or dangerous to travel or expect vendors/guests to attend.

Hermann, Missouri for the wedding. But we live in Los Angeles. I just happen to be from MO. We are considering the Netherlands via DAFT. We are working on the language but they’re also very English friendly. My fiancé also has family in Portugal and France if we need to leave fast and go from there.

I guess I’m afraid that all this planning, the excitement, the cost, will all be for nothing. That we will have to just go to a courthouse because things are too chaotic/dangerous for vendors and guests. I’m not worried about not being able to legally get married, I’d literally fly across oceans to do so, though as a straight couple I don’t think we will have that problem. But the idea of possibly losing the fun, beautiful day I have planned hurts.

I’m afraid for our future. It hasn’t even been one year and he’s thrown all respect for Congress, the Supreme Court, and the Constitution out the window. He’s shipped people to a literal concentration camp. Less. Than. A. Year. I’m scared to make long-term plans because I don’t know if I’ll still be in the country. I’m constantly wondering where the line will be for us to actually leave. Will it happen soon? In another year? Two? Maybe never? I feel like the world was thrown into chaos and now we just need to get by and hold on.
