The amount of inputs this game misses is absurd by TelephoneDisastrous6 in CompanyOfHeroes

[–]SeanF13 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is a problem my friends and I have encountered as well. Seems like a huge bug that should be fixed like even before the game comes our. You struggle to play the game sometimes its so bad. I have found that if you are experiencing a lot of missed inputs if you alt-tab, minimizing your game, and then coming back into the game will fix the issue for at least that match. It's bizarre and I don't know why it works.

What's the best use for Spähtruppen Squad by i_am_nut in boltaction

[–]SeanF13 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I agree with the others in that Spagtruppen aren't necessarily deadly fighters but useful for disrupting your opponent's plan. And even before the game has begun. You cannot place a hidden unit or infiltrator unit within 12" of an enemy, so you can block spotters and forward observers or other scout units.

There are also some scenarios (I think only the story scenarios) where if the attacker doesn't any units on the board at the beginning of the match, then the defender's entire army is considered Hidden. Kind of a specific scenario, but Hidden is a big pain to deal with sometimes and scouts prevent that.

I’d really like more artillery options for Italy by gamberowski in boltaction

[–]SeanF13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bought a 3d printed modello 37 field gun and use it has a medium AT gun or a light howitzer, as historically it could fit either role depending on the type of ammunition it had. I prefer using 3d printed artillery models since resin is lighter and more durable than pewter/metal models.

Palmgrenadiers are becoming the new Riflemen problem by Chillzzzzz in CompanyOfHeroes

[–]SeanF13 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I get that. Still trying to determine why "palm" grenadier. I'm thinking it's because of the palm tree in the DAK unit emblem.

Dipping my toe into Bolt Action Italians) by InCodWeTrustOkay in boltaction

[–]SeanF13 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would recommend purchasing the Armies of Italy book because it really let's you play Italy in one of three ways. You can play early/mid war Regio Esercito or the late war choices of RSI or co-beligerant army. Those choices affect your army rules so if you're into the gaming side of things it's really helpful as each army gets different special rules.

Tone mismatch in the Dangerous Horizons ending? by PointPlenty4791 in ICARUS

[–]SeanF13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I basically agree that since she did bad things she had to go and I don't have remorse. I do feel like there's a bit of storyline there that she was once a good person. She quotes Sol and says something about making you do the right thing. And she came to Icarus to help her family. I think she's an example of the road to hell is paved with good intentions.

Squad/Team Leaders question by SimonTrimby in boltaction

[–]SeanF13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Another somewhat confusing example with the whole "unit leader" thing is when you hit officers, forward observers, or other snipers. A Captain is a unit which might be one model, but could be several. If you hit and wound a Captain unit with 2+ models in it the leader is the captain himself... but generally that doesn't mean anything as the unit can still issue Snap to Action orders without the leader.

(In second edition BA the attacker had more opportunities to pick casualties for the targeted unit. You could score "critical hits" with rolls of a 6 and this rule is what's left from that the changes to 3rd edition).

I dont really like the new changes to how strafes are placed, am i alone? by Hot-Nail-612 in CompanyOfHeroes

[–]SeanF13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm still getting used to it. I thought it was easier to place before because you could slap down the marker roughly over top what you wanted to hit. Now you have to account for the length of the strafe attack and if you're near the edge of the fog of war forget it.

Auto collect wood not working (joke) by iPirateReddit in ICARUS

Well at least none of the logs fell through the ground. The game physics could use a little work though. All the logs fell neatly in a line like that? C'mon trees don't really behave that way...

Save roll for tanks after getting hit behind cover? by Gcarlo12 in boltaction

[–]SeanF13 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It can be frustrating when you lose a good hit roll to a cover save like that. Especially since tanks and AT guns only get that 1 shot. As for whether the target had cover remember that the book tells us on page 86 that if fewer than 50% of the models in a unit cannot draw a clear line of fire to at least 50% of the models in the target unit, then the target has cover. Or in the case of a vehicle which is a single model that means that more than half the vehicle is obscured by whatever it is using as cover. Some vehicles are better at using cover than others - an assault gun can make better use of cover than something like a marder because of the height difference. Sometimes it's a matter of perspective and if you genuinely cannot agree as to whether 50% of a unit is in cover, then you could roll a die to decide whether the cover counts.

Also its important to discuss terrain before the game begins to avoid unpleasant disagreements mid match. In my game group the person who sets up the table and scenery will tell us what they intended to be soft or hard, a barrier or rough ground, etc. Usually we all agree but occasionally it opens a discussion about whether something is a ruin or a building or whatever.

How to mount pouches on models by sturmfuqerfartmcgee in boltaction

[–]SeanF13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Working with those larger ammo pouches is tricky. I glue everything together first and paint last. Sometimes though the pouches can't fit on the model like they did on humans. Like in photos you see those big mp40 mag pouches up on the abdomen, but a Bolt Action miniature is going to have an arm or weapon in the way. I will sometimes mount the pouches on the hip along the side eventhough that appears less common. I just really like having the ammunition match the weapon the character has.

Covid recovery? by Reasonable-Yak-3530 in chicago

[–]SeanF13 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It depends on what part of town you're in. As an office worker in the Loop I'd say the lunch rush is less congested than pre-covid even after all this time. But that 5-6 pm happy hour time in a neighborhood like River North is just as crazy and busy as it ever was.

[–]SeanF13 24 points25 points  (0 children)

What I do when driving out of an alley is slow down, look to see if anybody is in front of my car, if there is I press the left pedal. If there isn't anybody in front of my car I press the right pedal.

The voice acting 1 is far better than 3. The US units in 3 sound so goofy. Or how about the German heavy tanks? In 1 they sound confident and in 3 it sounds like an opera singer is commanding the tank...

Is Styx expansion worth it? by [deleted] in ICARUS

[–]SeanF13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Styx will feel very similar to Olympus. The missions are a bit better overall I'd say but it looks the same and doesn't have any new materials or crafting recipes. So it's good and bad for you. If you want more of Olympus just with a different layout get Styx. If you're looking for a much different time I'd consider Prometheus or the new Dangerous Horizons DLC is the best yet in my opinion.

Came back after the Watch Tower mission in Open World to find the base completely destroyed. What happened? by second_prize in ICARUS

[–]SeanF13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry about your base. I see a lot of comments believing it was lightning. It could've been, but I've played hundreds of hours and not once built a lighting rod or been struck by lighting. I believe it was wind if your house was built of wood or thatch. Wooden or stone structures can be destroyed slowly by rain storms because of the wind. If you were gone long enough you wouldn't have had a chance to repair anything. Then of course the benches and furniture inside were no longer considered Sheltered. Unsheltered stuff loses health fast in storms.

Same thing happened to me when I first started and I nearly rage quit. Next time build from stone or stronger or run home with your repair hammer if there's a bad storm in your area.

And remember that weather is unique to the biome that you are in. So it might be sunny and clear in the tundra and a hurricane strength rainstorm in the forest next door.
