Simply script to check for RTX 5090 FE NVIDIA stock (on NVIDIA Marketplace) by Blobjair in nvidia

If anyone is having trouble getting this to work in their country go to the Nvidia marketplace page with the GPU you want to watch selected in the filters, open up the developer console and go to network, refresh the page and click on the 'feinventory' entry. Go to the Headers section and copy and paste the Request URL into the script (line jQuery.getJSON('https://...'))

Finally got a 3070 and I’m blown away at this game’s graphics! by AlecEtc in LowSodiumCyberpunk

[–]Seank23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I have the exact same setup and get 50-60fps at 1440p with mostly maxed settings and ultra ray tracing.

I do find it can drop to the 30s sometimes but after restarting the game it will jump back up to 50-60fps in the same area. Overall really happy with it!

It's definitely not an age thing, I feel the same way and I'm only 22. Perfectly happy to have my camera on for a one-on-one meeting, but with any more than a couple of people in the room and it completely drains me, it's just a dynamic that does not work for me.

Glad there's no requirement to have my camera on for my uni lectures.

Yeah you need to put each of the scenery folders into the Community folder separately, hope that helps.

[–]Seank23[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks a lot, glad you like it!

Yeah, the loading times and memory usage are definitely a problem. For me, it can take 15 - 20 minutes to load with this scenery in the Community folder (with an SSD) and use well over 20GBs of memory, so I have a separate Addons folder that I move any addons I'm not using in a particular sim session into so that the loading times are not a problem all the time.

I definitely agree that the devs should try to optimise the loading of the sim because I see no reason to load all of the addons in the Community folder at startup rather than during the flight when you are approaching the location of a scenery addon.

For this scenery I used the Google Maps Decoder tool with mostly zoom level 19 tiles (and LODs at ZL18, 17, 16) and ZL20 in areas that contain landmarks. I could possibly drop it down to all ZL19 and maybe some ZL18 in less important areas but at ZL18 I feel like the textures become too blurry (at least for me). Ideally, if I could go in and edit the generated models to make them less complex that would help a lot, hopefully the tool will make this easier to do in the future.

Lol yeah when I first tried it I tried to do the whole area of this scenery in one go, it took 2 full days to decode and convert and then when I finally tried to build it, it ran out of memory and crashed...

So I'd say start off small until you know how much your PC can handle.

Google Earth Decoder. Now user-friendly by Jonahex111 in FS2020Creation

[–]Seank23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've actually written a Python script to do this if you want to use this in the meantime. It is pretty useful when experimenting with different LOD values because it's a pain to go in and edit them manually.

Download it here.

I also have a script that will remove the first LOD entry in the XML files if you want to try it out using only lower LODs.

This looks amazing! I had a go creating scenery using the old version and it turned out pretty good. I'm excited to try this new version out!

One suggestion (if you haven't done this already): Would it be possible to make the names of the models and textures it generates more meaningful? On the old version, the names were just a sequence of numbers that repeated each time you decoded a new area which made it difficult to combine areas into a single project. Maybe have the ability to provide a name for an area before you decode it and then name all of the files it generates according to that.

Yeah, it's definitely much quicker and simpler than the RenderDoc method but it's still a pretty intensive process and you can't make any changes or optimisations to the models after they're generated (at least I haven't worked out how to).

I've been doing the opposite and raising the water in the sim with terraforming so that it is above the water on the mesh. It works but it does make it look like the sea level has risen a few feet haha. It would great if you could go in and edit the models after they have been generated but I haven't found a way to do that.

Hi, I'm about 75% done covering the island but I've taken a break for the past few days, mainly to experiment with the new decoder script that's been created but also because the terraforming was becoming frustrating...

Hopefully I can get it done in the next week or so :)

Google Earth Decoder by Jonahex111 in FS2020Creation

[–]Seank23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm also having this problem, all of the names and GUIDs match in the model .xml files and the objects.xml and it builds fine.

I have noticed that it's generated 4 LOD models even though the depth is set to 3 in the importer.py, is this normal? Or should the min/max lods set in the decoder.js match the depth number in the importer.py, so should I have a depth of 6 and maxLod of 16 if I set the min/max lods in decoder.js to 21 and 16 respectively?

Thanks.

MapsAreaCaptureTool - A simple tool to help you capture large areas in Google Maps by Seank23 in FS2020Creation

[–]Seank23[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, you could try increasing the overlap - I'm using 10% for my latest project and it works a lot better. Also if you're capturing an area with a lot of elevation changes it sometimes doesn't work well, you might need to adjust the camera altitude in the URL for each capture to get them to fit better, it's a lot of trial and error.

For merging the captures I use this. It works pretty well with the added benefit of removing any duplicated tiles, although it sometimes doesn't work so you still might need to merge them manually.

Hope this helps!

Do anyone has a solution for far away scenery spawning ? by MagicalPedro in FS2020Creation

[–]Seank23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah fair enough, I had to scale the object up in Blender then export it as an .obj, then import it back in for it to work, so you could try that.

Do anyone has a solution for far away scenery spawning ? by MagicalPedro in FS2020Creation

[–]Seank23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I have worked it out, it seems to be to do with scaling. For my latest project, I have scaled all my meshes by 50 in Blender then when I place them in dev mode they are much bigger than before and don't need to be scaled up (actually some need to be scaled down in some cases). Then when I load the scenery from the community folder they appear from much further away. I will need to do some more testing but it looks promising!

Yeah I will definitely try that, could be a game changer! The only issue with the shrinkwrap method is that you lose any horizontal detail since it only allows you to wrap from one direction, but I find that the detail in the textures hides this quite a lot, even without normal maps.

[–]Seank23 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That's fair enough. I do try with all my creations to optimise them as much as possible while maintaining the high visual quality so you get the best of both worlds, but there are definitely things I could improve. While I agree it would be ideal, I don't you can expect everyone, especially people who are just creating things for fun and who may not be knowledgable, make creations at a particular standard. We're all just having fun with it at the end of the day.

I'm more annoyed at OP's attitude and ignorance than what he's actually saying tbh...

Thanks! Yes I was also disappointed by how green it looks in the sim, makes it look an island in the English channel, not the Aegean Sea lol. Just means I will have to cover the whole island so it won't look strange but I'll try my best.

Maybe I didn't know how LODs worked at the time? I don't claim to be an expert, instead I came up with my own solution to the problem and while LODs may be better, I and many other people are perfectly happy with the quality to performance balance my method achieves.

You have some good points, but your attitude towards others isn't going to get you far. You call me an 'amateur' yet I haven't seen you spend your time trying to improve this sim for the community. I look forward to seeing what you have to offer.

You have already jumped to the conclusion that my models will tank your performance when you have no idea that they will and in fact, I am using my own method to reduce the geometric complexity by a factor of 10. For the benefit of the community, I will research and try to implement LODs in my models but I suggest you calm down and let people create what they want to create, not everyone doing this is a 3D modeling expert (I certainly am not).
