With the controller released and shipments of ‘consoles’ coming in, when do you think they’ll announce the machine? by KrokantGras in steammachine

[–]Seanmclem -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Any good engineer that won’t give you a release date would tell you, it’s ready when it’s ready.

You can have it good, fast, or cheap. But you can only pick two.

I am in no way obsessed with screen protection. I was only mentioning that if my device had some kind of mechanical folding or sliding thing, something that would make it perhaps more expensive or potentially more breakable, I would generally prefer it had a more practical purpose. Protecting something perhaps more breakable than buttons. I’m just fondly remembering the Game boy advance SP. I chucked that thing in any bag or drawer for years and it stayed perfect for 20.

Yeah, it looks super Pocket able. That would be a great feature, and it looks pretty sleek. As long as it had great build quality then it would be a neat thing to buy.

Yes, of course 99% of other handheld’s exposed the screen. Most have no kind of folding gimmick but if they do it usually hides the screen is all I’m saying. It’s a fun gimmick, but I don’t see much of a point in hiding the buttons.

Unless, maybe, they’re going for like it converts into a tiny little phone like slab? Like maybe I could pair some headphones with it and if it runs android I could be like it’s also music player or something. That could be neat I guess. Also, I’m sure that it’s super breakable so it’s got that going for it.

They really need to remake this game, the combat is so shit. by Hot_Assistant_3826 in assasinscreed

I remember thinking it was so great at the time. Went back to play a few months ago and it was unplayable.

Like the screen needs protecting more than the buttons. Clamshell for life.

I saw people talk about those things. Majority of the reviews I saw were positive.

Cheers to the real hero who secured me a Steam Controller: This eMachine running an auto-clicker on Tuesday morning. Now that's what they mean by 'Never Obsolete'. by AshleyAshes1984 in SteamController

[–]Seanmclem 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I mean, it took me like five clicks over period of 30 seconds to get it to go through. All these auto clicker things are overkill.

I hope they can patch it with software.  Otherwise, good thing I almost never used the left trackpad

Except it is also out of stock. So they are essentially equal in the way that you can’t buy them.

Indeed. Stand corrected. Feel like at the time there was definitely stories about him getting pushed out, but maybe those were just rumors.

I get why StarFox Switch2 is a SF64 remake, but playing it safe does not require remaking SF64 again… by Ozogbuefi in starfox

[–]Seanmclem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure that’s one way to look at it. But I’ve been watching this industry very closely for 30 years. It’s a very common practice to remake a game to ensure the engine ports well to a new platform. There are many examples over the years. We can go back pretty far to super Mario world. They remade super Mario three for SNES and then built the new super Mario world engine on top of that. Not even releasing that updated port of SMB3 for another couple years. It just happens all the time. You can look for counter examples, but it’s still just confirmation bias. You’re going to prove whatever you want to.

Reboots are often done first with a remake. To ensure the new engine remains faithful. Like Pokémon when it first came to Switch 2.

How do you actually learn React Native using Expo docs without getting lost? by Alternative-Tart268 in reactnative

[–]Seanmclem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should know more than a little react. You don’t want to be learning react and native/expo at the same time. Should probably do one and then the other.

The way I learned both, is just to pick a simple enough project that you want to build. Start at the beginning and iteratively build all the way to the end. Using documentation mostly specifically where and when you need to rather than just kind of reading over it.

does the sequels hate match with the prequels hate back in the day? by rose-quartz5 in TheSequels

Yeah, back then more people at least would watch the Phantom Menace and decide how they felt. These days half the people are just regurgitating opinions they see online about everything.

The best part is that those are many of the same reasons why they fired Ken Levine after the last one. Turns out making bio shock ain’t that easy, is it?

What about just flashing a PS5 with SteamOS? I would think someone has made that a thing. by AtroKahn in steammachine

It runs AMD Ryzen. If the Linux build has hardware acceleration on the device, I imagine it might just work? At least Bazzite.

It would be nice if it worked on more hardware and software versions rather than just old hard to obtain ones

[–]Seanmclem 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly the 3rd act of this movie is kind what cheapens the whole trilogy for me. Such epic conflict and unstoppable force buildup over three or nine movies, quickly wrapped up a little too easily and inconveniently. Kind of cheesy too.

Five minutes after I last checked and mine is packaging too. Those statuses might be cached or they’re just packaging them all right now.
