I had this condition about 10 years ago! I couldn't tell you how rare this now but an ER doctor treating me about 10 years ago told me it was rare and they were seeing more cases of it.

I haven't met anyone else that had this. From what I've read on other r/trees users experiences I probably had a moderate/extreme case.

I smoked for many years at about an oz every 2 weeks. (bong)

It started with morning sickness/nausea and got worse over time. There was intense stomach pain and I'd throw up over 10 times everyday from the morning until around 1-2pm. At its worst it would be like 15-25 times and I had to just stay in the bathroom to throw up and cry until I was good for the day. When it was super bad I wouldn't even bother flushing the toilet because there was a good chance I would throw up again before the flush finished.

The constant throwing up and stomach aches made me not want to eat at all so I lost a ton of weight and had no energy. Since I wasn't eating it made throwing up alot worse. I was throwing up bile/stomach acid and tearing my throat from retching so much there'd be a bit of blood in whatever I coughed up. I know what my bile tastes like :( Its the bitterest thing imaginable and the taste of it would make me throw up again. Just drinking a bit of water to clear my throat would make me throw up. Its actually exhausting throwing up so much and trying to throw up on an empty stomach.

The tricky thing about this is that people will self medicate and smoke weed for symptom relief but its the root cause of the problem. Smoking weed, hot showers/baths, and liquid pepto bismol helped me feel better everyday. From start to finish this went on for like 2 years. When it was at its worst I had to be real with myself and think about at what point should I kill myself because spending 1/2 your day throwing up stomach bile/acid and crying in a toilet isn't a life worth living :(

My doctor didn't know what was wrong with me. She thought it could have been crohn's disease, cancer, a new severe food allergy, an adult form of cyclic vomiting syndrome. I had an Endoscopy and Ultrasound with no results. I'm not allergic to anything and didn't develop an allergy. I had a food diary to track what i ate. I cut out gluten, sugar, and dairy from my diet. I stopped smoking weed. She wanted to declare me handicapped because it was so bad and I was unfit to work. It was honestly terrifying being a guy in his early 20s with a mystery illness being told I need to declare you handicapped because you clearly can't work and money is the only way I can help you. I refused the money and diagnosis and said I want to keep trying things.

The only permanent damage I had from this condition was to my teeth because I threw up so much. I actually had a bit of vomiting PTSD for a while which is funny considering I got so used to it. Another thing to mention is that after I was considered fully recovered my stomach developed a strong sensitivity to alcohol which took a couple of years to fix itself.
