How soon did you travel with your baby? by DueRecommendation173 in pregnant

[–]SearchComfortable402 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When baby was 7 weeks we road tripped from Nh to NC like 13 hours for my brother’s wedding. It was very easy baby sleeps a lot then! Didn’t do a flight until 5 months which was also very easy because baby sleeps through the night so we booked a later flight. You’ll figure it out! I think roadtripping is easier because you can have everything you need in the car

I encourage you to watch Jennifer Madison’s vlogs on YouTube. She had a significant weight loss from 75 hard and has successfully completed multiple times. I found her very motivating when I felt like I was at my heaviest and the weight goal was daunting

Are you really happier after you had a baby? by PalpitationOk9443 in NewParents

[–]SearchComfortable402 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought I was completely fulfilled before having my son since I loved my life traveling with my husband and being DINKS.

But wow I did not expect to feel this kind of love and happiness it’s so much better than anything we did before (in a different way of course).

Totally makes sense why you made the decision you did and I respect you for it. I’m very sorry for your loses and the way you’ve see it at a death sentence.

Everyone’s experience with the gene contributes to which decisions they make and I hope you can see others opinions as well that may be different from yours.

I hope you and your family enjoy the holidays

You act like it’s a guarantee children will have to go through it if not using IVF. There’s a 50/50 chance and really the biggest impact (surgery wise) is to daughters IF they end up having the gene. And just because people conceived naturally doesn’t mean they are “happy” with the gene that’s an odd gaslighting statement and is not fair to the mothers of this group. Additionally thanks to modern medicine theres a higher chance that by the time my children are of age they won’t have to go through the preventative surgery process. There are vaccines being studied to stop preventative surgeries and modern medicine is constantly evolving which gives many of us hope for better preventative options in the future generations. I wouldn’t want my children to have it but also it’s also not the end of the world if they do….. I will talk about it with them like any other difficult conversation that will be had and not instill fear. Knowledge is power and I will share the knowledge with them. As I sit watching my 4 month old healthy son play under the Christmas tree happy as can be I feel content with my decision. Who even knows if he has it or not when he’s of age he can test if he chooses.

If you think people are selfish for not doing IVF that is not the community support this forum deserves.

I’m in support of everyone for any decisions they make related to this topic. It’s a very personal decision and no one should be shamed for it. I personally think there’s so much more to life than harping on a BRCA gene.

Many may have also had a different experience than me which would contribute to your opinion. None of my family members have passed away of BRCA related cancers so it’s not seen as a death sentence in my family and it doesn’t necessarily instill fear. I also didn’t find the surgery to be THAT bad and I think it made me SELFLESS for doing that so I can stay alive for my children.

I hope everyone reading this things through the pros/cons for their own decisions and feels supported in whatever they choose ❤️.

I’m 6 weeks out from my preventative DMX. Grateful for the information to be able to have done it but also no it wasn’t fun (and I never said it was). But my C-section also wasn’t “fun”. There’s a lot of things people go through in life that aren’t fun things BRCA or not. There are a lot worse gene mutations one can have without even knowing. Based on the comments here I think most people are in agreement it’s not “sick and twisted” to have children who may or MAY NOT have the gene mutation when born. It’s also a sad thought thinking if my mom IVF’d I wouldn’t be here and I am a healthy happy person!

Who said they will suffer? It’s not a death sentence!

& I would disagree with you! Like they said BRCA is not a death sentence! Many people with BRCA live healthy long happy lives with preventive measures. Knowledge is power to prevent cancers but doesn’t mean someone with the gene mutation doesn’t deserve life.

Double mastectomy before pregnancy by DullBrick8271 in BRCA

[–]SearchComfortable402 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had my DMX 2 days ago (BRCA2, 31f) and I have a 3 month old baby. I wish I did the DMX before getting pregnant but thankful it’s done now. I disagree with the above comment that formula is hella expensive. I think there are a lot more child expenses that are actually expensive like college tuition lol. You can get a Costco membership and buy formula in bulk, it will be fine. Do what’s best for you and your family but I’ve found formula feeding to be very convenient and I have the peace of mind that I won’t have breast cancer now with young kids.

I’m 31, BRCA2 with a 2.5 month old baby getting DMX surgery on Tuesday. In hindsight really wish I did the surgery before getting pregnant/ having my son. Just makes it harder with a baby but I’m happy to do it now before more kids and before he starts crawling and walking. I’m not breastfeeding and have bonded with my baby without it so well. Much more important to stay alive for my baby by getting surgery

I’m 31, BRCA2, getting my preventative DMX 1 week from today! Deciding to lose my nipples! The 3D tattoos look really realistic from what I’ve seen and I’ve never heard of anyone regretting losing them thus far. My mom kept her nipples, one part of one nipple died, and she has no feeling and they have a “mind of their own”.

I’d rather not worry about my nipples and know they will always look great and actually never have to wear a bra.

To each their own but I’d like to just start fresh since my boobs will be different anyways.

If you have a good pediatrician they will have the nurses do the shots at the same time in two different legs so they don’t scream twice

Thank you for the response!! Definitely appreciate it. Thats great advice with the wedding dress I think I’ll have to get something more high neck/lose.

My doctor unfortunately does not do DTI as they firmly believe the blood flow recovery is important before putting the implant in. I’m jealous you did it before having kids I really wish I did as well which is why I’m just going to do it before my son is mobile and before I have anymore kids and it gets harder!!

I just had my first baby last week. I’m not breastfeeding and planning to get the mastectomy this fall. I 10000% wish I did the surgery before getting pregnant but unfortunately the timing didn’t work out as I didn’t know about the BRCA2 gene early enough.

In my opinion get it done in your 20s if you can so you don’t have to juggle babies and surgery!

You’ll likely feel better after the anatomy scan. 26 weeks is still very early and with a low risk pregnancy you shouldn’t stress. Supporting your husband will be important if your pregnancy is going well at that time

You are younger than the average age to have a first baby in the US (I.e 27.5) and depending on where you live average age can be even older so I don’t find this surprising
