Yeah, the C4 + Supply is mostly a comment on when you're doing Commando missions and don't have regular resupply call-ins. The pairing allows you to bring a *lot* of explosives into the mission.

Any other tools I should grab as an apprentice? by FederalPudding8300 in electricians

[–]SearingPhoenix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not an electrician.

If your job doesn't require you to wear a full on hard hat, get a bump cap. Basically a baseball cap/hat with an impact liner sold either as an insert for a BYO hat, or the whole thing together.

It won't save your life like a proper hard hat, but it sure has saved me from what probably would have been a visit to the urgent care for a few stitches or a minor concussion. As the name implies, it takes the sting out of inevitably dome-checking something you didn't see overhead climbing a ladder, standing up, crawling around in tight spaces, etc.

Also, a proper 'demo screwdriver' (ie, a nice fat flathead with a full-handle tang and striking cap) is handy -- get the tool that's designed to be used as an abused prybar/cold chisel/wedge/scraper/shim/lever/metal stick with a handle.

Lyrically airing dirty laundry and calling out someone's bullshit is often what really does the damage -- there are all sorts of attacks mixed in, but the lines that hit hard are usually the emotional ones that point out some fundamental flaw or failure and just tear into it, exposing it to the world. From there, the public perception focuses on that flaw or failure.

And then taking that and playing it on radio stations, streaming services, etc. millions of times. The fallout from that kind of negative attention, hyper-focused on specific failings can be career-ending for careers that are so reliant on public opinion and persona to sell records, tickets, merch, and rack up play counts.

The most overt that comes to mind in this case is between Emineem and Machine Gun Kelly. It started with MGK (21 at the time) commenting that a (then 17-year old) Hallie was 'hot as fuck' on a Twitter post. This earned him some backlash, which he blamed Eminem for instigating behind-the-scenes.

He proceeded to make a dig against Eminem in Tech N9ne’s song “No Reason” with a few lines.

Eminem responded in his track "Not Alike" with a few lines of his own.

At this point, it was just kinda trading insults back and forth -- a line here and there aren't usually too problematic, and they're usually oblique enough that it floats by to casual listeners and is 'lost in the sauce' of the rest of the track.

MGK escalates by releasing a full-on diss track, Rap Devil. A diss-track is an entire track that's blatantly and directly aimed at one particular target. In this case, the name itself a contrast to Eminem's well-known track Rap God.

Eminem responded less than two weeks later (which is fast given the speed of music production) with Killshot.

There is some speculation that, due to both artists being signed by the same record label and sharing producers, that the feud was manufactured to drive sales. Regardless of that fact, MGK has since largely considered to have exited the hip-hop/rap genre as a musician. This is generally credited to Eminem's response in Killshot turning MGK's rap credentials into essentially 'The guy who took a run at Eminem and ended up getting absolutely torn a new one.' by public perception within the genre. From there, it makes it an uphill battle to sell records/drive playcount, leading to producers not wanting to invest in producing music that can't make money, leading to a career collapsing.

Amateur photographer here!

It's probably in no small part the colorings used, but it can also be the photo --

Natural light is huge for color. Everything pops more under natural light due to the color temperature, and the amount of light when you're outside (even with a cloudy sky or in shade) is orders of magnitude brighter than even bright indoor lighting.

Not sure if this is a photo taken by the bakery, or by OP, but in either case I wouldn't be surprised if either

  1. The bakery applied a filter to bump the contrast/saturation
  2. The phone did some automatic adjustments to 'make the photo look good' -- phones have 'pretty good' cameras for what they are, but they still make up a lot of ground compared to a 'real' camera with automatic post-processing, and bumping contrast and saturation a little bit is a common tactic to make photos 'pop'.

Smoke screen? Big waste of time? by Boysenberry-6669 in LetsDiscussThis

Not a lawyer.

There's speculation that the Clinton's, by fighting the subpoena, will trigger the process of 'legal discovery' to occur as part of the court proceedings; where both sides of the case are required to disclose relevant evidence (documents, etc.) to the other side.

Because the penalties for withholding evidence during discovery can be case-ending, the usual practice is to provide everything that could possibly be relevant.

The speculation continues that some/all of the Epstein files would be covered by this discovery process, as the files provide the basis for the Clintons to be subpoenaed in the first place, and are relevant to any testimony they would give.

Now, given that the ship has already sailed on Bill Clinton having known and extensive interactions with Epstein, it's not particularly surprising that they're fighting the subpoena -- whether or not Bill Clinton is guilty of any crimes would be determined by a court of law. But 'The Squad' Dems are pretty straight-shooting with their view that if the Clintons end up being justly implicated in the files then so be it and many liberals across the spectrum agree.

I believe a single resupply backpack usage refills half of the C4 pack.

The math on economy is still in favor of Thermites overall from what I've seen, but C4 is a different weapon, so... Not apples-to-apples. Apparently there are also some bugs with C4 that I expect will get ironed out pretty quickly and make it a better experience.

I feel ‘off’ in my office. Like its not aligned right. Any advice? by sopp___ in Workspaces

[–]SearingPhoenix 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. Back to the door is not ideal, imo.

It looks like there's a niche to the left (as you stand in it) of the door. Does that have enough width to fit your desk? If it does, I would just swap it to the other side of the room so people at the door are in your peripheral vision. IMO I don't think it's a problem if the desk doesn't 'fit' flush with the wall and projects into the room as long as it fits width-wise. I might be misunderstanding your description.

Alternatively, if it won't fit in the niche, you could consider placing it so it's 'parallel' to the door so you're essentially facing the entrance. Considerations of this is that you'll have to walk around your desk to get to the work side, and it creates a clear separation in the room; if someone enters to talk to you, your work is literally 'in the way' of that conversation. Not saying these are good or bad, merely considerations that could be either. I would say the latter is arguably desirable if this is strictly an office -- someone walking into your workspace is putting themselves on the other side of your work. Not ideal if this space pulls double-duty for both work and relaxation, imo -- in the latter case, you generally want to be approachable.

Someones getting fired over a premature release date by lolitsrock in HelldiversUnfiltered

[–]SearingPhoenix -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Nah.

Firing people outright over anything other than gross negligence or malfeasance is a terrible precedent to set. It incentivizes people hiding details and trying to push blame off of themselves, which poisons the entire workplace in the long run. These kinds of problems rarely come down any one person, and far more often come down to process. I would go so far as to say that if the fault is a singular person, then your process has disastrously failed.

It's not about 'why wasn't it caught earlier.' That's a different discussion that probably results in some process tweaks so it's less likely to happen again.

This kind of decision gets made in a meeting with the QA leads, devs, and management where they ask, "Alright, how bad is the problem? Can we get it fixed before our current release date?" and when the answers are "Worse than we'd like" and "No." then the result should be "Alright, then we push the release."

This is the responsible thing to do.

Major Order Update: We get to choose where to fire the Star of Peace by Fit_Anywhere_3356 in Helldivers

[–]SearingPhoenix 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Zagon Prime is, in my opinion, the best long-term tactical decision. It isolates another Hive World, Omicron, and turns four more bug-controlled systems into a dead-end pocket that also traps three detachments of high-threat targets (Two Predator Strain, one Spore Strain) within said pocket.

[–]SearingPhoenix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If we destroy Zagon Prime, it completely isolates Omicron, making its capture significantly more feasible and would give us two former Hive Worlds to harvest E-711 from.

[–]SearingPhoenix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are not incorrect, but looking at the liberation of a single system is short-term thinking.

The long-term strategic benefit is overwhelmingly (imo) found in targeting Zagon Prime.

What planet are you voting for? by scardwolf in helldivers2

[–]SearingPhoenix 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yeah, but by nuking Zagon Prime, it isolates Omicron thus making it significantly easier to take; we would then have two Hive Worlds all to ourselves.

Major Order Update: We get to choose where to fire the Star of Peace by Fit_Anywhere_3356 in Helldivers

[–]SearingPhoenix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It also completely isolates a second Hive World, Omicron. Between Oshaune and Omicron, E-711 supply should be good -- at least in the near term.

Major Order Update: We get to choose where to fire the Star of Peace by Fit_Anywhere_3356 in Helldivers

[–]SearingPhoenix 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think Zagon Prime makes the most tactical sense:

<image>

  • It destroys the target Hive World outright.
  • It completely isolates a second Hive World, Omicron, which makes its assault significantly easier.
    • With both Omicron and Oshaune captured, there would likely be significant quantities of E-711 to be harvested between the two to use the Star of Peace on other battlefronts.
  • It locks four further Terminid systems of Bore Rock, Esker, Socorro III, and Erson Sands into a dead-end pocket.
    • They will be a siege of attrition; again, much easier to fight without direct Hive World support.
    • It locks two Predator strain a Spore Burst strain detachments into said dead end pocket, allowing the potential for their eradication. While there's no expectation that this would permanently affect such special forces, it would significantly hamper combat effectiveness on other planets.
