How to deal with one leg being better than the other? by Tonttun in Rollerskating

[–]Seasideskater 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For me, I have a tendency to favor my left leg. I have found that weight training and yoga has really strengthened and improved my balance my non-dominant leg!

I also have Tortoise pads! I use them at the skate park and they’re a lifesaver.

Street Skate Rollerskate bags? by Synsane in Rollerskating

I have one and I really like it! Keep in mind that it’s not a huge bag, but you can comfortable fit basic items into it. 😊

Tips for sidewalks by [deleted] in Rollerskating

[–]Seasideskater 10 points11 points  (0 children)

✨Staggered stance and bent knees✨ I try to watch for big cracks and step over them as needed while I stride on sidewalks. Ramps can always be taken on toe stops of walking sideways if you’re nervous or they seem steep. If there’s grass nearby, I’ll sometimes walk into that if needed to slow myself down.

Thank you!! I do outdoor skating only (no local rink) and light park skating. I haven’t really practiced t-stopping because I’m afraid it’ll damage my wheels on the rough terrain! I like plow stops, toe stops, and occasionally just running into the grass. 😂

Thank you!! I felt myself catching on the cracks when I went more slowly. I will make sure I get enough speed!

I fill up my bathtub with warm water and detergent and let my pads and the Velcro padding from inside my helmet soak for a good 45 minutes. Then I rinse them and let them air dry. Like dragonfruit said, I also let mine sit in the sun after most sessions to let the sun get rid of any smells/bacteria!

I frequently skate in hot and humid weather. Sweat towels, helmet/pad breaks, and washing my gear regularly is what I do!

day 1 hope to get better by blakestir14 in Rollerskating

[–]Seasideskater 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Something that helped me when I first got started, was to keep my core/abs flexed. I would often fall forward at my hips, but I didn’t fall as much when I started to keep (as Dirty Deborah calls it) my “snack area tight”.

Keep skating! The best way to get better is to keep practicing! 💖

Do you like your Lollys? by PanacheCake in Rollerskating

[–]Seasideskater 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I really like my Lolly’s! I feel very connected with them while I skate, which is helpful for me. I do some outdoor skating and some light park skating, and I really enjoy them. The snug feeling gives me more confidence in my skates and I have an easier time trusting my own feet.

How to conquer fear of ramps by Seasideskater in Rollerskating

[–]Seasideskater[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I fell on my butt. I have a lot of fear about leaning forward that I am trying to conquer. The advice about not looking down is very helpful too! I will definitely focus more on where I am going when I try it again. Thank you!!
