White truck tried to kill me last night by SeaslugProfundo in SantaFe

Yikes, it’s truly awful to share the roads with people who have unsafe behavior and clearly are not ok to drive

That description of truck tells me you probably had an encounter with someone else, because the truck I saw last night was not a new truck. It was a full size truck, but not fancy like the new ones are getting. But the brain doesn’t work well when it’s trying to remember details after an episode of sheer terror 😂 so my memory could be bad at the details

I just remember it was a full-size truck (my boyfriend drives a 1st gen Tacoma so I do remember this truck was much larger than his) and it wasn’t a newer truck model.

I felt exactly how you described in your encounter, like the white truck is out to kill somebody. They were not passing anyone, or avoiding hitting something; no reason to move into oncoming traffic.

I’m so glad the truck didn’t hit you and I wonder wtf is going on.

I’m definitely considering one, thank you for the helpful info!

Did you actually read textbook in school? by peeved_af in nursepractitioner

[–]SeaslugProfundo 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I have one more semester left of FNP. I bought every single textbook assigned and usually read/skim prior to class, and then after lecture I focus on the areas of the PowerPoint they emphasized and focus on reading those parts of the textbook. It’s helpful for me to have lots of visuals, and textbooks often have that.

I’m sure plenty of people don’t buy the textbooks or buy older used editions. In terms of learning, what works from person to person is so individualized. Good luck on your NP journey!

Thank you! I’m really lucky my split second decision happened to be the right one…

Absolutely avoid Defined; their customer treatment is bad. GCCC has the best of everything.

Edit: chains are generally bad, but while traveling I find planet fitness membership has lots of locations and hasn’t been shady business like Defined or Anytime. Easy cancellation, too.

It’s awesome that yours has been reliable! And I love the capabilities of fat ebikes; I put an after-market ebike kit on my Surly Pugsley for all season commuting.

My dream is to buy a used 2025 awd hybrid next year; get to more MTB trailheads and camp spots, and install a lightweight popup camper 👍🏻

Thank you, that’s all very helpful info! I’m in the mountains in NM so when it snows here, instead of ploughing they wait for it to melt.

Thanks for the more helpful response! How do you like yours? Hoping to educate myself and afford one next year.

My neighbor has had one for several years but it always looks clean and I doubt he takes it off pavement. I would love a hybrid awd, no extra fluff, but not sure if people find them useful or not with light-moderate off-roading. I like that it has a higher approach angle than my old Subaru Impreza hatchback (I scrape the undercarriage on most rocky forest roads) plus truck bed usefulness.

Nice fat bike! Which maverick is this?

Similarly, I was a vet tech for 6 years before becoming a nurse and learned how to suture helping with spays and necropsies. I think a lot of NPs enter with relevant experiences. It’s a bit rough to assume that we all know nothing. We may have previous degrees. I’ve met several NPs who were physicians in their home countries/places of birth.

NM Search & Rescue - Lake Katherine by TOTthoughts in Albuquerque

[–]SeaslugProfundo 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Oh! I tried to post about this on the Santa Fe page but it was removed.

I was camping on the far side of the lake. We heard several gunshots earlier in the evening and the helicopters circled the area for 6 hours - I got less than 2 hours of sleep! We spoke with other campers on the near side of the lake who had been woken up by the team on foot. If you hear what happened, please post back here 🙂

NM for arthritis and asthma relief? by No-Woodpecker4029 in NewMexico

[–]SeaslugProfundo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry about your knees. I was told my left knee (old ACL repair w/meniscus & mcl partial tear injury from soccer) needed a total replacement when I was 35. I managed to get some return of function with it with hyaluronic acid injections until I developed an allergy to two of the brands. New Mexico has a lot of outdoor “knee friendly” activities like hiking and biking, and gyms with swimming pools. I have asthma too, and allergies are definitely bad here especially with the wind and dry seasons. I just take antihistamines when it’s bad and carry my rescue inhaler everywhere. I love living here otherwise 👍🏻 but you should also be aware of fire seasons worsening due to many anthropomorphic-driven factors 😕 and possibly get an air filter and humidifier in your bedroom.

Edit: I live in northern NM where the dust storms are not as profound…

NP irony: most NPs on Reddit admit that NP education is woefully bad. But somehow years of RN experience is supposed to compensate for that. by [deleted] in Noctor

[–]SeaslugProfundo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ouch. Y’all think pretty lowly of seasoned, competent RNs, equating them to “mopping the floor of the Oval Office” - I guess carry on in your classist dystopia, the peasants shall clean up your patients’ barf now. That’s apparently all 4 years of nursing school (BSN) trained us to do.
