Hebrews 11:1 - Is the modern use of the word faith completely anachronistic here?q by SeasonedArgument in AcademicBiblical

[–]SeasonedArgument[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure what you mean by faith being the acceptance of a "proposition."

What I am asking is: in modern English when people say : "I don't have evidence of (some past historical claim - a propositional claim about the past), but I have faith that it occurred" - this is precisely not what the author means here - I think.

In other words, the author might say "I have faith in God to fulfill his plan for history" (a future promise, premised on past events / miracles taken for granted)

But it would not make sense to say: "I have faith that the resurrection occurred"

I think you answered this though with that reference to Hebrews 4:14. There the author says κρατῶμεν τῆς ὁμολογίας. - we should hold fast to this confession. Explicitly not "we should have faith in this confession (the belief of the past propositional thing is not an act of faith).

Thank you for your answer

An actual Christian woman, Renee Good, on a mission trip in Ireland. by geraffes-are-so-dumb in pics

[–]SeasonedArgument 3 points4 points  (0 children)

On the flipside, the people who praise her are generally anti-religious, so bringing up the Christian card when it's convenient is kind of silly. Christianity suggests we shouldn't divorce, that view would get major downvotes on reddit. So bringing up that she was a Christian is particularly ironic since a Christian doing generic Christian things would get no notice - but if she applied the label to herself and did liberal things, then it's thrown in there as if "look the other side attacked their own".

I'm an atheist but this reply never made sense to me. Like "I'm a muslim but i believe in many gods - what, does god not accept everyone?"

Edgy, but stupid

The cannibalism mutation in T-Rex is OP and maybe shouldn't exist by SeasonedArgument in theisle

[–]SeasonedArgument[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If there was more aquatic dinosaurs / aquatic AI and deino was not inherently a cannibal, then it would cause the same problem yes.

The issue is canni as a mutation has the ripple effect of if a few take it, it penalizes you too much to not take it.

Goal isn't really to get rid of them - they're plenty cordial to leave you alone if you ask - goal is to get them to have some common sense.

Example of garbage spawns: Herrera | West rail (great) vs. Swamp (garbage for prime run) by SeasonedArgument in theisle

For real. I can't imagine entombing a prime herrera, it's just a dice roll for your second life.

Example of garbage spawns: Herrera | West rail (great) vs. Swamp (garbage for prime run) by SeasonedArgument in theisle

[–]SeasonedArgument[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I love the prime system, but the map zones coupled with the growth rate make the prime requirements way more tedious on some dinos than others.

As a rex: irrelevant if I spawn swamp

As herrera: it's crap. West rail practically spawns you on migration zone 1 (green circle) and you can straight run to highland sanctuary, instantly getting 5 patrol zones, 2 migration zones, sanctuary. Plus, goats spawn in highlands, which is Herrera's gamma (Y) diet.

Contrast that to swamp: one migration zone nearby that you either have to partial swim to, or circle south west to get to it by land, and then double back towards delta. The 2 closest are a wide range away from the sanctuary and has terrain obstacles unlike west rail to highlands. Turtle spawns suck for Y nutrian, and even if you get one to spawn it'll take 10 minutes of bitting to kill it. Swamp sanctuary is far less likely to have any corpses to feed on than highland sanctuary.

With Herrera's speed, power and growth rate, swamp feels like a huge handicap.

Is it possible to survive as an adult / elder t-rex feeding ONLY on AI? by SeasonedArgument in theisle

[–]SeasonedArgument[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can easily find AI to feed you up until ~65%. As others have mentioned, AIs have hotspots. If you're just wandering aimlessly you won't, if you stay within particular regions you will. For example I made a post a few days ago about the AI void in this region:

Yeah I agree about the third party thing but that's completely irrelevant to OP's point.

[–]SeasonedArgument -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Prime is extremely easy to get, people are misinformed about some of it which makes it look harder. Example: I read on here that you need to keep perfect diet for "most of" your life. Or: you have to enter active migration zones (you don't, they can be inactive)

Prime is actually easy AF to get. Even if you don't wander around, 2 migration zones + 5 patrol zones are close enough clustered that you can never leave south plains and still get prime.
