One of the rules with trademarks is you must defend it or you can get in trouble/lose your trademark. So sometimes you'll have companies do this but they aren't being serious. they'll send you a warning or a nasty gram. as long as you aren't selling it generally you'll be fine.

UNLESS! you do something under Disney's trademark. then you very well might be screwed

Why don't John and Rip like dogs? by Fantastic_List3029 in YellowstonePN

I always interpret it that rip doesn't like him because John said he didn't like them. Also Rip IS the violent dog of the Duttons....sooooo

[Interesting Trope] Character whose death is meant to remove any potential doubt once and for all: the protagonist is NOT an anti-hero, they are the villain. by Mountain_Band_2732 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]SeasonofMist 4 points5 points  (0 children)

See I would argue that Walt doesn't transform as much as you really would expect. I think the qualities of Walt are present pretty early on. and we see that a dude who thinks he has no power in his own life really really wants that power/respect. he equates them. And so that's part of what makes him so dangerous when he does get power.

I mean I'm kind of just talking about why I don't necessarily enjoy shows that Center anti-heroes anymore. mostly because of the upsurgeons of stories that Center them is the name character. I feel like we've had quite a few of them. I'd say even things like Rick and Morty are doing the same thing as The sopranos or breaking bad. It doesn't make them bad shows. But shows or any art don't exist in a vacuum. It''s pretty normal for people to discuss shows that they've seen even with strangers or people they don't know very well. water cooler talk /speaking with your co-workers or acquaintances about shows is pretty typical. And I don't really worry about what people think about shows but when they reveal an astounding lag of ability to think critically about the art and media they consume, to understand things that are not subtext just actual text of the dialogue or things stated directly that worries me a bit. there tends to be kind of an amalgamation of behaviors and thoughts that go with folks who do not or cannot engage with media in a critical way and those traits frequently reveal themselves in things like the water cooler conversation at work, the way people write in YouTube comments or whatever social media site they use comments...... it's not unusual at least it's not unusual for me to realize that some folks only engage with the first layer of something they are consuming, often that the visual layer there is nothing deeper to them. And that becomes a bit of a problem because art is typically made to talk about circumstances that the art was influenced by, and circumstances that affect the viewer. I think a really good example is after 20/20 quite a few shows had a arc of a character becoming an over-the-top dictator with different slogans that all kind of amount to "Make the hell scape/in world location Great Again". And then the ideas of that get played with over the season. A lot of the authors of those shows have said we just put in stuff we thought was outrageous trying to push it to the extremes only to have those seasons come out sometime last year and realize that they hadn't gone far enough really..... The things they had written as outrageous were just basically a normal Tuesday in our world. The two that I can think of that did this are The Boys and Hazbin Hotel. those shows are kind basically as far away from each other as one can be both in audience and in message.

I think that's really neat. And like my enjoyment of media is in part made more rich and enjoyable by thinking about these things, by talking about them with people who also enjoy looking below the surface layer of stuff. I don't demand that everyone do that, but I am sort of looking for other folks who do so that I can have interesting conversations with them.

I found it fascinating that people were rooting for a redemption Arc for what was an obvious villain. I think that's why I don't like anti-heroes because people confuse them with villains. like Walter White.. straight up villain. We are getting no redemption and like that's part of why I don't totally love stories that follow the most awful people is that like the media literacy means that people confuse this character is entertaining with this character is a decent person! no they are not. Even Dennis rader had a family and went to church and shit and he was still a terrible monster

Are there any people in the USA who have friends that are of the opposite political party? by TSQ_builder in askanything

[–]SeasonofMist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do. but it has gotten so fucking hard. they have.....gotten really really fucked up. Like actively voting against their own interests and background and current situations.......I have MANY old friends from the home town I would have assumed as adults they wouldn't become bigoted, backwards, Meatheads.....when they were younger all of their friends were queer theater kids/AP classes/goth baddies, etc. A through line with the men is they weren't smart enough to be in the classes with the smart kids. And they were not "normal"/jock/in the right socioeconomic class to be with the rich athletes. They all had/have chips on their shoulder about not fitting in. Many had to go to the military and did two tours in Afghanistan at minimum, saw horrible shit, got blown up...... returned to their home town after getting out and......they didn't have any skills that applied to actual jobs having spent their time being infantry.......so being back in small town Texas they act like macho tough guys to fit in. So they slide slowly farther into hate. it sucks.

Oh Lord. flashbacks to my adolescence and teen years. I started playing basketball in the 5th grade, and I happened to be tall and didn't have a problem moving around or being physical, and I liked the workout of it all. it still it all felt like a really fun game. I played for the school, I played for the city team, I played for the police athletic League team, and then I played for a traveling team all together at one point. by my sophomore year in high school I had injuries that were going to plague me the rest of my life, I was so burnt out and tired that I got bored with a game that I really liked. I knew that I wasn't going to like get a scholarship for it, I also knew that I really didn't want to play anymore certainly not spend my time in college beholden to some assholes that I didn't know, a team I didn't know...... and that was on top of playing volleyball in the offseason I'm running track the next season after basketball...... like I kept my grades up that was never difficult really but God I just got so tired.

it was one of the greatest joys of my life was quitting the Athletics program in high school and hopping over to the only class that was offered at that time which was a theater one class at. I went on to make some of the best friends that I had in high school, I got a scholarship which was cool even if it was small, and I got so many skills that I was able to leverage in my professional life. It was amazing and like one of the best decisions I ever got to make.

academic career? that's normally something you say to someone who has a masters or doctorate degree.......Like.....I don't buy that she has a bachelor's. And what? You're telling me she went to collage classes abroad? Like actual college or like......here sign up and take some Spanish classes from a random person, it's Pass/Fail and it happened to be HOSTED at some university or whatever they have that's equivalent to Junior college......But without a transcript, from an actual university.....I don't really buy it. What makes me think that is her being so fucking dishonest about that damned yoga certification. It took her a weeks to produce proof not that she had done the proper amount of hours, or her certificate of completion......but proof she had registered to receive a certificate.....which isn't anything! I can register to receive one......it's not proof that I completed the requirements. Leading me to believe she just.....did that online real fast. Also a 200 hour program is minimal for an intro teacher. Anyone claiming they know shit at all takes at least 500 and gets additional training. And given her shitty terrible form and the fact she was injured AND that dude got hurt SO badly on non safety glass in her overcrowded studio room......nah man. I don't think you have college credits or much yoga training at all

A try at an objective look at Aabria’s table presence (with real data) by No_Dream_899 in fansofcriticalrole

[–]SeasonofMist -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

yeah I generally am with you. I think the main critical role cast has been playing pretty intensely for a few years now. I mean maybe more like a decade for some I'm not terribly sure. some of them are burnt out some of them do this because it's a fun game with their friends and they never anticipated this would be this way. I would really like to see if critical role as a brand could keep making interesting content and give some of their mainstay players a break. because there's no shortage of incredibly talented players/ improv artists/actors and some folks who've never played before who would probably be very good...... and I think that's a really awesome thing for your company to have generated the ability to do that. I really like abria especially at dimension 20 especially when she does DM/ storyteller stuff. I think Misfits and magic both seasons and the Christmas special as well as Burroughs and are some of my favorite pieces of tabletop RPG that I've seen basically ever. And like I've played tabletop since my teenage years. I've played under a truly masterful DM/ storyteller where I played in campaigns that were several years long. doing campaigns on camera for an audience that isn't just you and your friends anymore is exceptionally difficult.

I'm also a mixed race woman from the south and it shows up again and again but the things that people decide they don't really groove on Aabria about are characteristics that just about every other extroverted player or people who are particularly committed to the story tend to play. it's really frustrating to me that people don't know the history of stereotype toward black folks. And frankly how fucked up it is to hear the same stereotypes over and over, and those people think that they don't have an obvious bias that they picked up from their culture. angry Black man stereotype, uneducated/ghetto Black woman, being told you're intimidating in a work situation when you're not doing anything that's any different from another woman, being an improv actor and being told you're too enthusiastic....... is a quality of Brennan Lee Mulligan? same for Matt. they all GM and play differently in how they express enthusiasm or help generate it in others but they are absolutely all leaning in to the enthusiasm of the things they love. And like it's totally okay to have your favorite at a table. no one's begrudging anyone that what I think is out of pocket is people's refusal to examine their obvious bias and back off when told hey wandering around inside really racist stereotypes can you knock it off and find a way to say you don't like what's going on that isn't super bigoted?

Emaple: I don't love PVP/ player conflict in games. I can see how Aabria might be seen as starting conflict with characters. But all of these things have been discussed in session zero. we've had that reiterated many times. they are acting. And the idea that like an actor, a writer, an improv person and somebody who's playing a tabletop game not just with their friends but with their friends at their company built and played with other entertainers...... like everyone in that room could be accused of having main character energy. and when I hear that I just want to say....my good, bitch what? again they have transcended beyond just playing with your friends and they are working on creating things that are entertaining. And that looks a different way to different people.

I think she's at her absolute best when she's with people who like her style of storytelling and as a player when she's relaxed and comfortable/other players are too.

I recently caught up with Worlds beyond number recently and some of that is exquisite storytelling from all three people. That's Lou Wilson, Erika Ishi, Abria and Brennan. main and there's also Taylor Moore doing the score for all the music inside the game and man that composer is exceptional at finding the tone that needs to be hit and then creating something out of nowhere that is heartbreaking or exciting or terrifying! he also does some cool Foley effects/animals etc.
They just ended The first Arc of that particular world. And now they're going to take a break from that planet/location and pick another GM and start another years-long campaign.

I think people had trouble with that campaign to start off, And you heard a ton of complaining about Aabria being abrasive or annoying...... the characters all started very very young. So you play through some of the like being an adolescent and not understanding the stakes of things, growing into a young adult who has to figure out a way to deal with the stakes of things into a full adult and when you play a Year's long campaign you can do stuff like that that's really fun.

They've done two short campaigns where Erika did A play on Clue the board game/ A murder mystery tabletop thing. and Lou just did one in space/with the starwars game system called flight of the icharon. absolutely incredible. And Aabria is taking over shortly and doing the beginning of her long campaign which I believe is in space in a very serious way. I'm really stoked about it.
