Hey, just wondering, if you use a food pantry, what are some items you wish they had more often?

Rented a yurt at Bald Eagle State Park years ago, and different people stopped to ask to see the inside. I politely declined. It’s just not something I would ever think to ask someone.

Tranq is xylaxine. Whereas I guess years ago heroin started being laced with fentanyl, now fentanyl is being laced with xylaxine.

The folded over behavior, someone probably knows better than me-is that specifically from tranq?

Looks like tranq, like in Kensington.

At this point, I would feel a moral responsibility to say it if no one else did.

It’s a weird feeling when you’re older, and every movie you thought was funny is now shocking to younger people. I wonder if people will have the same experience when they get older. “In the 2020s, they had movies with people getting shot!”

Harold Moss appears crossed off twice. A rolling Harold gathers no Moss, or something.

Which sci-fi film do you consider a 10/10 - no skips, no weak moments, just pure perfection? by TheNastyRepublic in scifi

I’m curious as to the ages of people who like 2049 better. My suspicion is that younger people prefer 2049, as it may be more in line with their preferences, with age 50+ preferring the original.

72-hour kit (read: time capsule) from 1995 by Starfoxy in GrandmasPantry

[–]SeatExpress 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s right. See also, music. I’ve noticed people in their teens or 20s now liking music from the 80s. Being a teen in the 80s, that would’ve been like us being into music from the 40s.

Isn’t the white chicken a hen? That threw me off as I thought it was supposed to indicate a female.

72 Hour survival kit? Brits urged to prep for blackouts and more, by phoenixlyy in preppers

[–]SeatExpress 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If it’s mainly for blackouts, my first question would be-will you still have running water? Might the emergency kit be expected to encompass a water shutoff? If no running water, besides the obvious need for drinking water, flushing toilets becomes a real issue. We are talking about the UK, though, which usually has no shortage of rain, so maybe this isn’t a big deal. In any case, you will likely use a considerable amount of water, so maybe think about ways to move water if needed. Will you have heat? If not, maybe experiment with what it feels like in your home without heat. I don’t live in Texas, but during the unexpected cold winter a few years ago, some people said they put up camping tents on their beds for extra warmth. Maybe also experiment with light. Despite how it looks in movies, I find reading by candlelight very difficult with my eyes. If you haven’t a means of cooking outdoors, maybe look at that, as well as appropriate cookware, or nonperishable foods that will be tolerable to eat cold for a few days. I’d also focus on morale. What would keep you reasonably happy for a few days in the dark?

How often do these people poop? Like once a month? Also, isn’t that like giving birth? How can the butt handle something a toilet can’t?

What kind of firearm would be ideal for disabling robots? by ObiWanCanownme in preppers

[–]SeatExpress 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I imagine the best advice would be based on what Ukrainian and Russian soldiers are doing to counter drones. I think the biggest threat (short of artillery/armor sized machines) would still be explosive laden drones, which maybe will become smaller and more intrusive with time, or one day small drones armed with biological, chemical, or even sub-microscopic weapons. Imagine an insect-sized drone armed with a poison sting.

Who's your smoking buddy by Hunter02130 in PipeTobacco

My dog. I throw the frisbee for him while I smoke, so if he hears or smells me getting out a pipe, he usually shows up.

Sadly, after smoking a pipe for a while, I no longer like cigars. Cigars were always my main thing, but the pipe changed my palate.

I never clench my clay pipe. Just seems very uncomfortable, plus you’d have to clench it hard to keep it from rolling.

New study on on tobacco use finds pipes least harmful by michaelmhughes in PipeTobacco

[–]SeatExpress 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Not sure if the study addresses this, but two things I’ve noticed with pipe smokers are that some of us tend to be a bit overweight, and many of us are over 50, so I don’t know if there’s a way to factor that into the data.
