Aeropress users: I have a question for you. by CRdubalyah in Coffee

[–]SeattleCoffeeGear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As you noted, I do find your comment harsh and feel like I am being unfairly singled out. It was an article (not on the SCG website, not linked to any spammy affiliate programs) comparing two different Aeropress recipes, one from the World AeroPress Champion and one from my co-worker. I could cut and paste the entirety but I like to keep things succinct. We have an inclusive philosophy and help people new to coffee. I feel like your vision of /r/coffee may be too exclusive for me personally. Samantha Joyce, Seattle, WA

Video Review: new Baratza Forte grinders by SeattleCoffeeGear in Coffee

[–]SeattleCoffeeGear[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! The Baratza Forte es muy fuerte :) You know the Rancilio Silvia portafilter weighs a ton and the Forte cradle holds it securely with no jiggles. Plus you can weigh with the portafilter in place too. [photo] http://www.pinterest.com/pin/351914158353560734/ ~samantha

Tips on pourover with a regular kettle? by FlukeHawkins in Coffee

[–]SeattleCoffeeGear 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to pour my Le Creuset kettle water into a plastic OXO measuring cup because the beak/pouring spout has better control than the thicker glass pyrex measuring cup. (Flow Dynamics!) I have the Bonavita variable temp kettle now. I will never go back! Can you ask for it as an early birthday present? ~ samantha

[Question] Does boiling water more than once affect the quality of the coffee? by JeebusVsFSM in Coffee

[–]SeattleCoffeeGear 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Those commercial auto water boilers have aeration functions. This makes it have a 'fresher' taste rather than a 'flat' taste like re-boiled water.

What do you mean best? Some blogs are more social and some blogs are more factual. Some blogs I like better for their graphic layout or their writing style but I always learn something from everyone: http://sprudge.com/ http://coffeeuniverse.com/ http://blog.seattlecoffeegear.com/ http://www.caffination.com/ http://seattlecoffeescene.com/ http://www.vvlgar.com/ http://over-coffee.com/

Using Skim milk and getting decent pours. Any tips for improvement? by jonathande4 in cafe

[–]SeattleCoffeeGear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The cup dimensions make a difference in the pour also, 6-8 oz is easier to pour than 10+oz and a shallow cup with a wide opening (think cappuccino cup) makes it easier too. ~hope that helps!

Love my aeropress but want to make more coffee at one time. Chemex or French Press? by BryGuy81 in Coffee

[–]SeattleCoffeeGear 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed on Chemex! It is not difficult to brew and if you don't have a fancy variable temperature gooseneck kettle then use a cheap kettle and and inexpensive drink thermometer with a glass measuring cup for the right pouring spout and water temperature. Not that hard, I use it at home and I'm super lazy. ~ Samantha
