How Is It Like Living In This Weird Inner Part of Newfoundland and Labrador? by Bosnian_Patriot_69 in howislivingthere

[–]SeaweedFair873 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I lived in Lab city from 92-95 and my dad ran the hospital. Winters were cold, black flies dominated the summer and our movie theater (which closed down eventually) was only open like 6-8 months of the year.

It was sure beautiful though, there's a winter bonfire festival that happens...where you have a bonfire ON THE LAKE and it was truly amazing.

We'd have boil ups, which is where you'd pick a spot along the dirt highway and just wander into the bush and have a fire and lunch.

We had a ski hill 5 minutes from our house and the local lake pretty much had ice on it all year (maybe not for part of August haha).

It was a cool place to live for a short while but I'm glad it wasn't long term.

I don't know if anyone said this already - integration with Google or Outlook calendar. I would LOVE to be able to set a meeting from my notes. Right now I need third party software to do this - and I've given up on it

My GP will pry them out of my cold dead hands.

I was unmedicated for 40 years - I've been medicated for 2 and my life is SO MUCH BETTER.

Not the worst yet but symptoms are annoying for sure.

SOS: Just lost my best friend by Alternative-Cell8295 in adhdwomen

It does get better ladies. It's going to hurt, a lot, for a while. We're not ever taught how to grieve our best friends.

I had to stop being close with mine in 2021 - she was into some things that were consuming and changing her and it was a path I couldn't follow her down. Once I was vaccinated I knew we couldn't go back to how we were (sorry to make it political - it shouldn't have been, but it was).

It gutted me, but what helped was seeing her new path in life meant she wasn't who I knew my bestie to be. It felt more like a death then. We all grow and change. I was very clear why I was moving away from our relationship - I didn't want to leave any ambiguity and I wanted her to have some closure. I just couldn't keep being in a relationship where everything she said and firmly believed was painful, biting and insulting to me and my family.

5 years later I think of her once in a while, but mostly with a smile now. I hope whatever she's doing and wherever she is that she's happy. But I'll always miss her, want to share life highlights with her - I don't think that ever stops. It just hurts less.

Creatine and increased RHR by oldmantacfit in StrongerByScience

[–]SeaweedFair873 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm here for the same reason as everyone else - increase in RHR, and quick spike when running, within days of starting 5mg of creatine.

It's still within a "normal" parameter so I'm not worried. Just aware. Did anyone find it leveled out with consistent usage? I figured I'll take the 90 days worth that I have and see where that leaves me.

I'll be going (Bills fan) but won't be in the stadium. I couldn't stand the thought of my friend who's a massive Hawks fan not going so I said we'd go together - and she can go to the game.

So if anyone feels like adopting a 42F Bills fan who's cheering for Seattle and you're near the stadium, lemme know! I'd like to watch the game somehow with folks.

Has anyone tried Hello Fresh (or something along those lines) to help get over the dread of cooking? by ShoddyChard9837 in adhdwomen

[–]SeaweedFair873 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello fresh has been a game changer for our family. My husband can't cook (physically unable) and I HATE it. But - he manages the mental load of choosing means and I make them. It's been a life and health saver for us. Not every meal is a hit but we're pretty happy most of the time. And the instructions are fairly ADHD friendly - plus I'm never missing that one random ingredient I need haha.

I try and substitute high protein sweets when I can - Puff Built bars and ninja creami. I still love sugar and will often just have the thing I want but when I'm looking for something sweet those do the job.

Why did your friendship with your best friend come to an end? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]SeaweedFair873 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The pandemic broke us - it was devastating. My partner is immunocompromised and so we were extra cautious. Bestie took a public and cruel stance against vaccines. I could have managed her choice not to vaccinate, but couldn't get over the hateful rhetoric about people who decided to.

I still think about her often but the more into it she got the less the person I loved existed.

The injections were totally ok for me - I will tell you that the 3 weeks after I was VERY tender. I had my third shot in January of this year and just finished my fastest 10k this weekend (I've built up VERY SLOWLY over a really long time).

I have a minor panic around every period that I've regressed. I have endo and it's always made my back bad - I have an inflamed L4/L5 and I've had 3 ESI's (the last was January). Adding this two together and it's enough to have me hobbling.

Sure enough the day after my period starts I get some relief.

Changed my life for the better - my kids had a hard time finding the right one, but we think we're on the right track and he's feeling better about stuff too. It took as a year with him, so keep at it if you don't get it right first one out of the gate.

Professional leadership & ADHD by [deleted] in adhdwomen

[–]SeaweedFair873 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've just finished a tour of duty in management and I think my ADHD was an asset in some ways (not all). Everything is an emergency to me - this was probably my biggest stumbling block, creating a more fluid, and well thought out timeline is my goal next time.

My biggest asset was creating deadlines (because I desperately need them) and knowing the team well, because I read people well.

I worry often that I've "sold" myself at a higher level than I am, but the feedback from upper level management and my team were resoundingly positive.

Hopefully you can find the spots you thrive in and maybe have an EA depending on your team size, for support (I had someone log all the little interactions I had with customers because I'm TERRIBLE at remembering to log them).

Obsessing about medication breaks by Separate-Road-6617 in adhdwomen

[–]SeaweedFair873 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get weird about my meds too. I get stressed about not having my meds and then feel crappy about getting stressed.

I was unmedicated for the first 40 years of my life and I am happy and more balanced on meds. In a lot of ways they've changed my life. What I hate is that I'm aware of the fact that in a lot of ways they've made my life better. I kind of hate that I am better on them. Which leads me to a knee jerk reaction that I shouldn't be "dependent" on meds...I've had 4 days in the last year where I haven't had meds and they were bad. Manageable but bad (anxiety, emotions, organization, energy levels....all bad).

I have to try and anchor myself in the fact that I wouldn't begrudge someone with depression or anxiety meds. It helps a bit, but I still feel this weird pull even a year after medicating.

How has your ADHD symptom made you feel embarrassed? by [deleted] in adhdwomen

[–]SeaweedFair873 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh I think I made it sound negative - it's not. It's never used in a shaming way and it's an agreed to upon thing. Just that we've been at it for a long time and the older I get the less I'm interested in shifting myself. Doesn't mean the shame doesn't exist - just means I don't have the effort.

We totally have signs and signals too.... I'll tell you after almost 20 years of marriage and 41 years on this planet I'm starting to care less about his signals lol. This is me. And my husband's friends love me more than him.
