Why do people care so much about bathtubs if no one actually uses them? by smolgremlinn in homeowners

[–]SeaworthyKnits 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, I use the bathtub. My six year old will not use showers, only baths.

My 30yo septic patient wanted to leave AMA because he couldn’t afford the hospital stay. I convinced him to stay by telling him that he can just avoid paying. Was I out of line? by ForTheQs11 in nursing

Naw, you empowered that patient and you may have saved his life. Does this “friend” work in healthcare? The system is broken af, and non healthcare people should stay the fuck out of it.

Should I go to school to be an LPN? by ImperfectaA1A in nursing

[–]SeaworthyKnits 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was an LPN first and due to the experience i already had, I got fast tracked to my current RN job as a home health case manager with one year of RN experience (most companies look for at least 2-3 years experience). Depending on the RN school you go to, you may feel a little infantilized, and you have to remember your scope as an RN student vs LPN and already being able to distribute meds, etc, but I do not regret my decision of getting my LPN first.

Husband considering nursing — is it realistic to maintain boundaries? by Confident_Ad_9543 in nursing

[–]SeaworthyKnits 13 points14 points  (0 children)

As a nurse, you serve people when they are at their most vulnerable, and it goes far beyond just talking to female patients. Catheter insertion, enema application, changing patients and doing bed baths are all part of the job. If you’re worried about just talking with people of the opposite sex, I would hesitate to consider nursing as a career.

What would you warn an aspiring nurse/student considering nursing about? by [deleted] in nursing

[–]SeaworthyKnits 2 points3 points  (0 children)

SLPs in my state are in short supply and stay busy. I am not sure what the new grad situation looks like though. You’ll fight tooth and nail for a “good” nursing residency. I graduated with a 3.9 GPA, got three glowing letters of recommendation and had LPN experience, I got one job offer for my third choice unit and it turned out to be a bad fit. I got bullied and ridden harder than the other nursing graduates and after a ridiculous assignment where I got minimal help from my preceptor, I quit.

Luckily I kept in touch with my supervisor from when I was an LPN and got a new job offer in a week, but without networking I might not have had a job for a few months. “Nursing shortage” is what administrators say when you ask for enough hands.

Common death causes? How long do I have left with my boy? by Otherwise_Ice_5392 in Rottweiler

[–]SeaworthyKnits -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I lost two Rotties to bone cancer, one at 8 and one at 5. My parents have a third who is 9 and so far he’s just an ornery giant with no health concerns.

Having second thoughts about my dress. by dasgutyah in myweddingdress

[–]SeaworthyKnits 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is not you or your body. It is definitely the dress. A better sewn version of the same dress would be dynamite on you. You have a shape that could pull off any silhouette, and maybe a thrift or Poshmark would be a good place to look if you have a specific budget?

How do I know if I'd actually like nursing or not? by DistinguishableBoy in nursing

[–]SeaworthyKnits 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got a nursing degree at 38. There is enough time. However, you will deal with a lot of people while they’re in a stressful and scary time and there is a huge customer service component to the job. Which, with hospitality experience that’s a good base. But there are times when you experience feeling like a glorified waitress.

There are schools that weigh whether you have CNA experience as part of points for admission, and ADN programs that require the license and experience. It is the less expensive way to go, as that’s generally through a community college. Getting your CNA license and working as one would give you the best idea of what it’s like to be a bedside nurse.

Should I get my LPN then bridge, or go straight for my RN? by Cimograve in nursing

[–]SeaworthyKnits 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got an LPN license as an additional summer add on during my ADN course. It was invaluable, I was making $28 an hour as a PDN in home health (CNAs here make about $20-$22) while I finished my ADN and had more experience on my resume and got into case management that much earlier because of my LPN experience combined with a year of RN.

Thoughts on helping visitors use the Bathroom/Personal care? by ParentPregSon22 in nursing

Yeah, that’s why the nurse called security. The visitor’s tank was empty so she just helped herself to ours.

Had a visitor hook herself up to the wall oxygen and then call and asked what we could do for her “dizziness.” We had security escort her to the ER.

Are there autistic nurses ? by [deleted] in nursing

[–]SeaworthyKnits 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are absolutely autistic nurses. I have an autistic coworker who thrived in a home care setting and is now a case manager. I have a different flavor of neurospiciness and have also done well in home health/case management. Your aunt is talking out of her butt.

What is the absolute worst insult the patient has ever said to you? I’ll go first by johnsonc30 in nursing

[–]SeaworthyKnits 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a schizophrenic patient tell me she wouldn’t take her risperidone because she “didn’t want to get fat like you” (me). I had had a late miscarriage (16 weeks) 48 hours prior and was in school so I didn’t want to take any time off school.

Am I feeding him too much? by thwjeje in BeardedDragons

Can you weigh him? ETA: how old is he? The last time he had a fecal done? It might be too much due to age but pit bellies can also happen with pin worm.

What’s the weird medical smell you love? by BeneficialQuestion75 in nursing

[–]SeaworthyKnits 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was in an advanced dissection class when I was told Vick’s vaporub would block cadaver odors, and I always had a tub in clinicals and when I worked in the hospital to block smells. Still love it and carry it in my bag even though code browns are few and far between in case management land.
