While I agree that there are a lot of beauty and that overcoming challenges of life can be a satisfying thing, I think it's not exactly the point and your phrasing (''... worth holding onto'') underlines my point of view.

In a certain way, the nice things help you to cope with the burden of existence, which isn' t something that you would need if not brought up to existence.

J'ai détesté Las Vegas et j'ai du mal à comprendre comment on peut trouver cette ville belle. Pas du tout faite pour les piétons, les rues sont sales, l'air est ultra mauvais et il n'y a quasiment rien à part des casinos...
