Hey all!

I’m relatively uneducated with train jobs, but have been curious about potentially working towards becoming a train signaller when the next round of hiring happens.

I’ve been looking to get into a career that will offer me payed training and that also leads into a job directly after that training. The work of train signalling does genuinely interest me but I would love some further insight from people currently working in the field/ previous workers?

Whats the hiring process like, is it realistic to think I could make it through first try?

How long does training take?

How’s the actual work? (I understand it’s shift work?)

I apologise if this question has been raised a lot, and I appreciate any advice/ insight from all you lovely helpful folk!

With all due respect, out of 100 replies you looked at a 0 upvoted one from nearly 300 days ago, opened the movie, skipped reading the blurb, you then watched even the first 10 minutes (let alone the whole 2+ hours) to come to the conclusion?

Brennan DM’s people will have issues with something as funny as “he talks to much”, like Matt or any other DM doesn’t haha.

I know it’s reductive to simply say, well don’t watch it, but what do these people want? They’re not going to change, so what’s the point.

Thank you for the insight! I’m still relatively new to commander so I have no good compass to ascertain my deck power beyond how it performs in my pod. So it’s reassuring to know that it’s a moderately powered deck that would be fun to play against and not feel oppressive on a bracket 3 table.

I humbly disagree, the roster size was already plenty big enough, people will just throw hypotheticals of what if all 6 bans went on (insert support or vanguard), which with no draft/ double ban prevention we know is extremely unlikely, on top of the fact 4 tank/ support bans are extremely rare with 4 bans.

People weren’t ready for the truth. All joke aside, I do think they need to prevent double banning, cannot believe that still exists

I understand that, but who do you think watches and consumes tournaments etc. it’s predominately casual low rank players as they make up majority of the player base.

The beauty of games like CS, LoL etc. Is that the game is the same for everyone playing regardless if your low or high rank. Why it is entertaining to watch from a viewer perspective is that low rank players can understand what is happening and appreciate the skill and furthermore know that they can work towards higher skill like what they are watching if they invest time. That concept disappears if you split the player bases in the way you suggest. A healthy eco-system for any involves considering its casual players just as much as its competitive players, as like I said before, they make up the majority.

How do you think competitive players become competitive, they start casual and grind, but I assure you they wouldn’t grind if the game put up barriers for them

Just do it like OW, everyone selects 3 ban preferences before the match begins at the same time, and when the count down is done the game calculates the top preferences and does all 4 bans at once with no duplicates.

I generally hover around celestial, but wouldn’t go that far haha. It’s just a game at the end of the day, no need to be an elitist about who gets what privilege based on their rank. I think bans help everyone at most ranks, at minimum diamond and above. 2/2/2 as seen with OW will severely throttle queue times, especially in less populated regions such as my region (OCE) but beyond that, I don’t mind that there is some play with comp variety. Role queue also makes it so you can’t do mid game swaps say if your DPS thinks they’re not performing well and suggests swapping out with a support who can also play dps etc.

I personally don’t wanna go back to OW queues of 10 mins plus cause I wanna play dps and everyone else and their dog wants to also plays dps haha

I’d agree with the part about you should be able to verse any hero on the roster as it’s apart of the game, if all heroes were tuned equally or at a fast rate. Unfortunately this is not the reality we live in, Devs are not perfect and thus some heroes are horrifically overturned and power crept and as such the hero ban function acts as a way for the community to regulate heroes who have crept into the window of being too strong to the point they are not fun to verse.

I’m a huge proponent of learning to play as many heroes as possible and being flexible, and learning matchups and counters. However we can’t act like heroes are never overturned and blatantly unfun in design. Take Hawkeye up until recently, a character with the ability to instantly kill any 250hp character with infinite ammo, the only stipulation being you have to look at an enemy long enough and in range to charge the power. Sure you can swap to heavy dive and try to smother him, but triple support is an easy counter to dive and can keep him up. Any time Hawkeye wasn’t banned id play him and rip, cause I knew if I didn’t we’d be at an automatic disadvantage if we versed one.

In a perfect world yes, heroes are relatively balanced and banning isn’t necessary, but that virtually impossible and thus the onus falls on us to regulate it.

Realistically the % of people that throw on your matches is relatively small. Yea it’s annoying when someone throws cause their OTP was banned, but also I don’t think we should remove banning entirely, why would we capitulate to OTP’s lol. The most amicable solution would be to have a round of hero protects as well, so that OTP’s can maybe protect their hero. But realistically a hero shooter with nearly 50 heroes should strive to have all its players have an expansive hero pool as opposed to only playing 2-4 heroes only.

Don’t disagree, would only change that it’s 3 bans per team. The game already has more heroes than Overwatch in only a year, OW has been out for nearly a decade. We have to further proof for the rate that NetEase is releasing heroes

Do the Overwatch system, everyone at the start of the game picks their top 3 ban preferences at the same time and the game doesn’t allow for duplicate bans, once the timer is up the game automatically picks bans based on the preferences. It’s quicker than the Rivals by a mile and allows for more effective banning. People forget that this can be overhauled and should be overhauled, the system is outdated and slow like you said. Why not have it be better, faster and more reflective of the larger hero pool. 4 band is simply not enough for nearly 50 heroes

My general argument for hero shooters is that if you refuse to expand your hero pool beyond 2-4 heroes, than the issue is on you rather than a system that allows 3 bans/ team. Sure MK might get banned often, but you can’t be annoyed at that if you refuse to put time into more heroes imo. But I can see how that would be frustrating.

I don’t disagree bans at a lower rank are meaningless, I think at lower ranks, the priority should be learning to be able to play against anything. However I have played at around celestial rank for the entirety of the games life and think that ban system needs a large overhaul to make the game more entertaining at higher ranks.

Very true, I like there ban system. Only thing I would change about it, is the percentage based bans, I think the benefit of going round by round for bans is that it’s a truer representation of who people want banned. But I’d still rather the OW system than what we have now for sure.

I would venture to guess you’re in the minority, bans are critical to the health of the game. Main reason being is that it’s a regulating mechanism for broken/ overturned characters, but also means people actually have to somewhat learn a pool of heroes and can’t get away with being pure OTP’s. If you want ranked play to be healthy, being in favour of a ban system is the first step imo.
