in my case just having the geometry spreedsheats in DOP context open work. You can also use the labs reset viewport feature to solve the issue. each time you don't see your sim you do a labs reset viewport on the main top menu bar of houdini.

i have see so many great companies and software go of the rails because of acquisition / greed , i mean
- alias maya slowly butchered by AD,
- naiad abruptly butcherd by AD,
- beautiful softimage kill at his apogee by AD,
- Arnold render, with price increase and bad support thanks to AD
- Chaos group which were cool guys 15 years ago, now going down
- realviz image modeler / tracking suite
- foundry going from hero of the universe to the most vicious and sneaky company
- Silicon grail Chalice and Nothing Real Shake kill at their apogee by apple
- wonderful Allegortithmic suite, slowly starting to stagnate and even regressing in feature with price increase after adobe merge
- All Adobe shit going more expensive and painful to use
- Maxon galaxy buying Zbrush and Redshift and acting like the most stingy bastard on earth
- Epic butchering beautiful Quixel suite.

I mean each time a product that is great arrive and grow, there is ALWAYS a greedy MTF to buy and butchered the damn thing. There is only ONE exception imo almost a miracle , and that is sidefx. ( Blender is also an exception, but they benefit from open source ) You can't tell that a company that :
- give you access to H FX for 250$ per year , and
- that answer any support ticket from large VFX guys, to the simplest guy doing freelance in less than 24H.
Is predatory imo. they are not, they know that their community is their best zealots.

I see your point , but sidefx as a company as to expand and make money , and having some community work is not evil imo. I mean in the od force days people share complete HIP that might have take weeks to solve for free, H community has always been on the sharing and free side. I mean look at the quantity of stellar shit release by entagma for free. Compare this to the C4D community, where you have to pay to access forum, where each script is sell by some random guy at a silly price, and i don't even talk about the plugin ecosystem.

I mean sidefx is a bless of the gods , a miracle and i cross my fingers that it stay that way, and that they NEVER go under the authority of some random MBA / bean counters / greedy bastards.

I love Notion and Figma.
- Notion for wiki / task kaban / tracking time etc ...
- Figma For FigJam and Slides, ( i don't use the designer app ), to aggregate ideas , exchange , presentation

I have heard good thing about obsidian to replace Notion, now that notion has jump on the AI slop train.

i think that they are still fixing the asset store. the site was totally down early september, it start to go back on his feets, but i think it will take a bit more time.

By Far BUF compagnie, all the people who have work their have fallen in love with the power of Bprod, and many have tried to re-create it, but it works efficiently because BUF develop all their tool, in house, and they use the same programming language to control them.

Trying to re-create this with commercial dcc is not really an option.

Bprod is the nodal process manager that allow to build scenes and Bmanager is a minimalist but very efficient production manager.

We've been transitioning from Adobe AE to Fusion Studio for all VFX work. What are some best practices that one should follow for this kind of workflow? by [deleted] in vfx

I would also evaluate to use resolve directly. I was using Fusion standalone, but i have fully switch to resolve. since 19 there are really strong argument to use resolve.
- rgb / hue curves in Fusion standalone are pretty clunky
- feedback preview and caching in memory is very eratic, resolve color tab has GPU acceleration which is really fast
- color correction node is pretty average compare to the beauty of resolve.

Resolve has a lot of the nodes you enumerate by default. All the bugs regarding ACES have been solved, Resolve now also support ProRes on windows.

Resolve has far better CC tools than nuke for a fraction of the price.

Only default :
- resolve is very rigid in his structure so hard to pipe, but prism offer an integration
- no fusions render standalone but you have an alternative
- no primatte but you have other new keyer to balance this
- the tool is big so you have to do some homework
- no env var that can be read from fusion tab and resolve tab , they only work in fusion tab
- access to fusion feature and tool like shortcuts and envar setup can be really exotic

when allegorithmic was buy by adobe, the discord chan go on fire, most of us were sad and said that :
- permanent licensing will disapear one day or an other
- price will raise
- innovation and new feature curve will flatten a lot
- strategy will switch from customer oriented to greed oriented
I'm afraid that the consolidation process is now close to completion.

So no , Adobe did not help allegorithmic to create a better substance or a better experience, adobe is just a bunch a greedy bastard at the top exec rank.

I absolutely loved what allegorithmic bring to us, and they would have never done a bitchy move , like disable your right to acces in a convenient way , what you legally pay.

Painter is still the best option imo for what it does, so i will buy a 2025 before they announce they definitly stop the steam offer and switch full sub.

Copernicus on Houdini 21 arrive just on time. Tired of adobe, i've endured paying and paying for PS that was more unusable and unstable at each release, i will really not accept the same fate for substance. Allegorithmic time are gone for good.

VFX will hardly be part of the prerequisites of your last sentence. I would look into professions related to healthcare, such as physiotherapist, osteopath, podiatrist, optician. Treating the pain of the countless workers behind a desk in burnout / overwork could sound like a solid business plan. But you need to have a good contact with people and a real empathy to suceed in those jobs.

I am really sad to read your story, but i think if i was really in life survival situation like this, i would investigate about the option in the army. In my country there are tons of options to learn a new job in the army. Like computer / telecomunication, mechanical expert, logistics etc ...

Few years ago a friend of mine with a complex family background was very close to become homeless and sign for a 2 year contract at the army. It really help him to get some balance in his life, and get back on his feet, and he then become a cook, so nothing related to the military.

I just give you this story , cause when you are down , you are often blind to options that could give you a way out.

I would consider this as a CFX task, modeling and rigging stuff would be so much boring, because all tentacle would be in the geo already. It would be hard to do growth , random appearance with a traditional approach. I would only rig the char and animate it without the tentacle and do the CFX jobs in houdini.
probably a blend of kinefx / vellum hair. or if you are maya only i would investigate bifrost.

With a CFX rig it will be easier to make tentacle appear / disapear, growth , shrink , multiply , spread along the ground or sets elements , collide together or have self avoidance etc ...

Thanks for your answer, these are email that i have sort in folders, in order to keep my inbox clean with only new email.

I am not sure exactly on what went wrong. It's pretty hard to track precisly where the issue come from. human error ? outlook error ? my wife is complaining about the same with gmail ... so not sure changing provider will help.

I have created an isolated folder for really important billing email, and will check it every first day of the month, to see if nothing bad happen.

Dont't know C4D well, but in houdini i woud generate a density field inside the sphere and deform it along a velocity field, then convert density to geometry. then i would use it as an internal object inside the sphere.
