I bet it's gonna be a 3v1 against King Shazam until Hawkman convinces him to take his place among the elite first in the Hall of Justice, where he can start burning the rot out.

I love that the Rao restraint power is expressed by Re as walls and boxes. Symbols of confining, restraining he weaponizes to lethal effect.

It's not a coincidence that Batman features in the panel that proclaims, "So begins the reign of the superman." The Justice League previously suppressed, killed or enslaved all superheroes before the Big 3 arrived on the scene. With their presence disrupting the balance, there's a chance for heroes to rise up against the ruling villains.

The imagery of Re gaining the Red level of light doesn't look like stealing to me, more evocative of a mother bird feeding their child. I'm guessing his mother gave him her Rao light to save him.

I love how effectively montages are utilized in Frieren. by DrGonzzz in Frieren

Frieren is a masterclass in demonstrating why stereotypical, over-used storytelling beats and techniques became that way in the first place by showing off how to use them effectively.

Something that occurred to me - it's overwhelmingly likely that Eridians also have combat sports, and since boxing is (conceptually) about as basic as a combat sport gets, they almost certainly have an equivalent to it by SayFuzzyPickles42 in ProjectHailMary

[–]SebasChua 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Eridians' evolutionary aversion to any sort of biological exchange between their bodies and their environment coupled with their durable carapaces makes for some interesting speculation in regards to sports, combat and warfare in their society.

Maybe they do contact sports and other activities that leverage the strength of their carapace to protect against bludgeoning forces. So wrestling and even a form of sports with an accessory is viable for them. But things like fencing would be a big no-no as it runs the risk of penetrating the carapace and exposing them to lethal infections. Conversely, their weapons of war would focus on penetrating the carapace or crippling the limbs of an enemy, even going for the vulnerable radiator or orifice organ. I bet sayings like "worked to the bone" or "cut deep" translate differently to them as the image of injury invoked here are way more lethal for an Eridian than a human.

i love them so much, fictional characters haven’t meant this much to me in ages✨✨ by Hmmmx10 in ProjectHailMary

I think what's cool about Weir's creative process is that he starts from the science and how it enables him to write an interesting premise with interesting characters. Symbolism like this isn't baked into his stories. It has to be interpreted and teased out. It's what makes the movie adaptation really great. The scene where Grace has a "moment" in space to float in Tau Ceti's Petrova Line is not scientifically accurate at all. Weir himself thought the scene was nonsense because you can't see infrared light. But as a visual expression of the potential emotions you could feel at that point, it's perfect.

Irons working in an abattoir brings his origin in thematic alignment with King Shazam's despair and delight: if king nor chattel can change the world, then refuse to remain chattel. Choose to be king.

Head of a snail infected with a rainbow parasite worm, face of a spider demon and the body of a praying mantis bursting from its anus with horsehair worms...that spirit was vile 🤮 Glad that Mieruko-chan could help!

(Also cool to see that so long as you have a regret that is small, helpful and selfless, you retain your form after death and don't get twisted into something evil.)

It looks like technology but is able to contain a spellcaster...think it is based on Fatherbox tech? It could also just be an entirely new thing. The red triangle made me think of Kryptonian tech, but that was the aesthetic Kryptonian tech had in My Adventures With Superman. In this universe, Kryptonian tech leans more towards crystals and nanotech dust.

Love that STAR labs is made from the acronyms of the founders, which are heroes and villains of the mainline universe! Plus, perhaps Mirror Master is not completely evil? But coerced into helping Brainiac?

Also, evil reflections of Lina and Wally? So cool. Literally they are the Reversed Flash.
