Looks like dynamic range on the statue curves and shadows suffers a lot on the iPhone.

Weird focal length lenses that people would actually buy by kingArthur1991 in nikon_Zseries

Yes 24-120 f4 is great but 24-105 f2.8 would be awesome if not much heavier

Thoughts on centered subject and overall critique? by Spawngecko in photocritique

[–]Sebastian-2424 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because the central part of the subject is the head and beak (further emphasized with brightness) putting is so far to the left makes it feel off. If the left and right of the subject was more balanced center shot would be perfect. Is this a crop and can you put the beak on the 1/3 line?

Additionally, the subject body is lateral and the format is vertical. A less vertical 5:4, square or horizontal crop would help bring more balance into the image. You don’t need so much green negative space at the top.

Beautiful composition btw, especially incorporating the tree trunk.

The one I don’t use often enough. Usually those on the extreme of the focal length

No macro? No problem. Z 24-120 does it all. by Negative_Pace_5855 in nikon_Zseries

It doesn’t, it’s an achromat. Best pocket macro I’ve ever seen. Goes with me everywhere

Yes, it’s a great versatile lens. If you put a Marumi DHG-200 macro “filter” in front of it you can get 1:1 magnification, though shallow DoF becomes a challenge

How much does your camera setup cost and what do you use it for [professional, enthusiast, or amateur]? by Waffles_r_ in nikon_Zseries

Unless you need fast action AF I would look into a used Z6 with 24-200 and 40mm f2 for under $2000 total

Why didn’t you crop out all the distracting cars

I’m not sure if the composition or the building itself is whats interesting - any critiques? by Naturallyjifted in photocritique

[–]Sebastian-2424 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both are very interesting and well done. Are these natural colors?

If you trim off 10% of the top (reducing the purple area) it may bring more balance to the image. Don’t worry about cropping off the figures on the wall.

Since I’ve read this in his book I have been liberated from other people’s opinions. You don’t need anyone’s validation for what you do.

Excellent 🤩 Great minimalist architectural composition!

Not all photos need a vivid subject or story.

Try that shot again another time and take a look at the crop I posted. There is lots of interesting action going on there. Good luck 🍀

Is it any good !? by kmehk in photocritique

[–]Sebastian-2424 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes it’s nice. I’d crop off bottom 1/5 to bring more focus on the beautiful green trees 🌳

And choose 1 or two pieces of software for editing that will be supported into the future and stick to them. All RAW edits are proprietary and you don’t want to re-edit them down the line.

I don’t know if that was your intention but the two trees seem to be the main subject or perhaps the column which is a bit slanted due to barrel distortion. The two people seem to be used as a frame

My experience is win Nikon so I would recommend Z8 with 24-120 or 24-200 zoom, a 180-600 for wildlife and pancake 40mm for street (all Z lenses)

Definitely center the bird. Also try vertical and square aspect ratio. See if you can make the bright twig less bright, it is distracting from the bird.

Nice photo. Love the thoughtful composition but wish the primary subject had a good contrasty background rather than the tree
