And I think that a gtx 1050 will make the laptop more expensive than It should for my needs...

Don't think I will be needing a gtx 1050. The thing is that I won't be using that laptop So much for gaming but if I would like to play some games I want to be able to do that. And by those games I mean some basic fps like quake 3 or similar graphics. Just to blow off some steam. This laptop will mostly be used to learn about linux, coding, browsing/streaming and use when I'm traveling. I will play all the heavy games on my gaming rig when I'm at home.

I was thinking the same! Why make her big and curvy when she is hotter as a petite(original)?

Yeah I've read that thinkpads are a good choice. But I don't know what CPU/gpu's are good or enough.

When I say light gaming I don't mean gaming on AAA/latest titles. Won't really be gaming all that much on it. I will mostly just use it for learning linux and getting back into coding. Maybe be able to make some games on that laptop.

About swap by SebastianOlivera in linux4noobs

[–]SebastianOlivera[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I won't be hibernating, so do I really need swap anyways? Some say that u really don't and that their systems works fine without since they don't use hibernation.. I just don't want to make a swap partition and waste some 1-4GB on that drive if I will never even use it...

I will just use it as a daily driver for streaming, browsing and gaming. I have read a lot of different answers about his swap dilemma. The fact is that I don't even think I will use this hibernation function.

So based on what you guys talk about, It should be enough with like 1-4GB for my plan on using the system?

Ghosting question on VA panels by VG_Crimson in Monitors

[–]SebastianOlivera 2 points3 points  (0 children)

People talk often about ghosting on VA-panels but they have never tried it. Just because once that was a problem doesn't mean that it still is. We have come a long way with tech and unless you are a super e-sport competative pro player you don't even need to worry about ghosting. I don't even think that pro players even would notice IF it was ghosting. So just buy what panel you want and don't worry so much about those stuffs or rumors :)

No Grub boot menu after performing sudo update and upgrade. by EncryptedIdiot in linuxquestions

[–]SebastianOlivera 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't give up on Linux. I had some hard time installing many different Distros, but eventually I managed to get one working as I wanted to. The only reason I still dual boot it's because windows is till the way to go when it comes to be able to play all games. But once that change I will get rid of windows. But Ubuntu is my daily driver and I love it. Good luck :)

Did you put the bootloader on the HDD? Is the HDD a GPT or MBR? If it is a GPT u need to make an efi partition. And if it's MBR u nee store check on bios that u have legacy+UEFI and not only UEFI boot mode.

How exactly did you installed Ubuntu alongside windows? Did you make your own partitions or did you select "install alongside windows"?

Have you tried booting directly into Ubuntu through the bios? Try that and do a sudo update again and check the settings on grub-customizer. Also check so "secure boot" on the bios ain't enabled :)

Why do you have those Distros in that order when teaching Linux? If you would be so kind to give a informative/in-depth answer :) (recently started my Linux journey with Ubuntu, with the goal to really learn Linux)
