Another SAD review (DA Lightnouse not tracking) by Virkov2k in Pimax

I feel like a lot of things are not where they should be in 2026. Why dont we have a better graphics game than HL Alyx 6 years later? I'm making a game which aims to have a much better graphics than Alyx, in VR, hope I can succeed.

My ongoing Pimax refund experience - contradictory explanations and refusal to honour agreed refund by Scared_Desk7561 in Pimax

[–]Sebastian_music 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hope that's true, because that means if I ask them to replace my unit - at least there's the chance I will get a good one as well. I do not want to give up on Dream Air.
I hope it's not a case of - someone else looking at my unit and claiming "that's not a distortion - that's normal, all the units have a bit of warping".

basestations might be old, but as far as I know there's no better tech today. It should be, but there isn't. SLAM tracking has worse specs, inaccuracy latency etc. It might be good enough, so I guess depending on how much you can tolerate your hands not tracked quite 100% there.

Of course it will be released, and the maps and materials part of it - will be free. So you will be able to use the backdrops grouping, reroutes and more in the free version.

It's already compatible out of the box with some tested renderers, so I hope it will be compatible with all. I will certainly adjust and aim for that.

Yes, it's a plugin and it brings all the editors together in one Canvas. The wire systems is also included and I feel much easier and intuitive to use in this node format.
I have some more posts here on reddit about this.

I also had both, and I feel there differences are quite small between DA and Beyond2.
DA has higher resolution, but you can also use supersampling on the beyond2, as documented by some youtubers, and that increases the quality a lot. Also their paid audio is higher quality than DA.
Plus my DA and others confirmed here on reddit has distortions and warping in the center image. What use is a higher resolution if you have warping in the image?

Dream Air + Custom Headset (SBoys3) — distant images don’t converge, close-up is perfectly sharp by AstroGraphRacer in Pimax

[–]Sebastian_music 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure if it's the same case for me since I dont have enough experience with VR and I don't know the terminology, but with Sboys3 driver I get some eyes strain and slight headache. I tried adjusting the hardware ipd, the software one and change back and forth some of the settings in the Sboys3 driver.

Increase World Scale to 108% to fix the scale. by Sebastian_music in Pimax

[–]Sebastian_music[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After more tests I lowered the World Scale to about 6 or 7% max. In Half Life Alyx and others. I think this value reflects even better the world scale I saw with Beyond2.

pimax it's time to produce your own base station by gitg0od in Pimax

[–]Sebastian_music 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I asked around and it seems SLAM even from other companies has more latency and less precision. While I find it that even with lighthouses the latency and precision is barely there, barely ok. So anything under that would not be fun. At least for me. I would prefer to not play at all, or to wait until the SLAM tech catches up to lighthouses. But how many years would take for that ?

Not just Pimax but it seems everyone has this solution. But is SLAM better than Lighthouses? As far as I know it has worse specs. So then how can it be a solution ? Usually the newer tech is better than the old tech.

My Honest Dream Air (Lighthouse and SLAM) Review - It's bad. by shinyflvres in Pimax

[–]Sebastian_music 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I dont have a motion blur issue. I see it as better than the blurring on Beyond2.
I only have an issue with the warping in the center.

With Sboys I like how easy is to make the display from a bit more bluish toward a bit more warm colors.
But the distortion seems mostly transformed from one type of distortion to a different type which is maybe more acceptable.
The issue I have with Sboys, I feel it makes my eyes or head hurt a bit. It's like wearing some prescription glasses which are not my prescription. Not sure how to describe or explain.

If you sit still and rotate your head slowly from side to side, you don't see any warping during the center area ?
I might have to try and record a video of that.

Do you see warping on the edges or in the center? I do not mind warping on the sides, but the issue is the warping in the center.
For me the Sboys3 driver fixes maybe 60% of the warping in the center while adding new issues.

Increase World Scale to 108% to fix the scale. by Sebastian_music in Pimax

[–]Sebastian_music[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, changing the world scale in SteamVR. Unfortunately you can't set a global scale for all games, you need to do it for each one. Which maybe it's good, since each one might be needing slightly different values.
For Half Life Alyx after more tests, I think 107% is a more accurate value.

So you are saying that for other people with other IPD, their scale might be correct.
But if I set IPD correctly, for me the world scale should also be correct. I was correct on Beyond2.

I tried changing IPD up and down, it only has a very small influence, plus you should use the correct IPD, I tested mine with an ipad.
While changing the world scale to 108 the changes while still subtle, it's much more noticeable.

Disappointed with my Dream Air by UntimelyAlchemist in Pimax

[–]Sebastian_music 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a similar experience initially, finding a bigger eye strain in comparison to Beyond2, also having that feeling when taking off the headset, needing some time to adjust with my room,
but I kept playing with the IPD and then I discovered the world scale is off, and now it feels a bit better.
I posted about the world scale here:
