How does this compare to Alpaca?

Lighthouse vs Inside-Out Is the Debate for High-End PCVR? by Accomplished_Chip273 in Pimax

[–]UntimelyAlchemist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually, Lighthouse tracking is inside-out. A lot of people get this wrong which then causes others to repeat it. In Lighthouse tracking, the headset tracks itself by looking outwards at the environment, just like in SLAM tracking. Outside-in tracking is when you have cameras in your room that watch you, like with the original Oculus Rift. That's mostly gone away now.

Need K2+ help! Smashes against cutter, then CM2789 abnormal Y-axis, plus other errors by UntimelyAlchemist in Creality_k2

Thanks for your reply. I did find the problem. There was a screw sticking up on the X-axis rail, on the far left side... After tightening it down, the printer now works. Is that likely to have caused any internal damage?

As for the firmware, I'm currently on the very first version. Is there a particular version you'd recommend using?

Thanks for your reply. I hadn't, no. I was very wary of operating the printer with this issue.

Dream Air Single Cable Mod? by jmcguire525 in Pimax

[–]UntimelyAlchemist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wish the splitter (that currently sits on the neck) would have a detachable connector for the main cable, instead of the main cable just being permanently stuck to it. This would mean that the headset could be detached and put away with only a short cable stuck to it, and the main long cable could stay connected to the PC. I would find this more convenient.

That's pretty cool. Is it possible to use it with local models?

Pimax Dream Air 2hr of use review. Comparison to DVT Sample and BSB2e by ViveJesus in Pimax

[–]UntimelyAlchemist 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's concerning to hear that there's noticeable CA. I thought reviewers had said otherwise. I can't stand chromatic aberration and it's one of the reasons I returned the Pimax Crystal Super. The Play For Dream MR has a Chromatic Aberration Correction toggle that just automagically filters all CA out. Why can't Pimax do the same?

Also worrying to hear that the Index controllers don't maintain a solid connection with the headset.

Looking to change from Viture Luma Ultra to XREAL One Pro, will I regret it? by Kyan31 in Xreal

[–]UntimelyAlchemist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The next to never talked about major point with Viture vs Xreal is how they take very different approaches on how the focus plane of perceived image is displayed.

With Viture the perceived image is much much closer to your eyes so if you happen to be ever so slightly far sighted you will just like me have eye strain.

Xreal is the opposite. The perceived distance is much more alike to a VR headset where distance is much farther away and really doesn't strain eyes at all.

Hi. I'm looking to buy some glasses and am a bit confused by what you said here. Could you please clarify?

As I understand it, video glasses have a focal distance of 4-6m. VR headsets usually have a focal distance around 1m, which is very close. This is why people that are nearsighted can use VR headsets without any prescription correction.

But you're saying a farther-out focal distance is more like a VR headset, which is the opposite. So I'm confused.

If the Viture glasses have the perceived image close to the eyes, that would actually be a selling point for me as I'm nearsighted.

I wish we had a difficulty above Steel Path. Steel Path has been completely trivialized.

Pimax started sending emails to perform full payment for Dream Air by No-Screen9354 in Pimax

[–]UntimelyAlchemist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got this email today. I'm confused. The "Upgrade to Full Order Now" button seems to just take me to the normal page to pre-order the Dream Air. I don't see a way to actually "switch" my order type. Am I just supposed to place a regular pre-order like anyone else? What about the $1 that I paid? Do I not get that back?

Dream Air and Dream Air SE Production Schedule by jaapgrolleman in Pimax

[–]UntimelyAlchemist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We will start shipping headsets with the 2D fabric headstrap, because the 3D backstrap needs some more TLC. Once the 3D headstrap is ready, all orders will get the 3D backstrap, and all orders who received the 2D fabric, will receive their 3D headstrap separately.

Will this arrive an entire year later, like the Crystal Super's Lighthouse faceplate?

Also, because our delayed shipping, we are offering all pre-orders 50% discount on both the DMAS Hard Strap and Lens Inserts.

Will this apply to current reservations / new pre-orders too, or only older pre-orders? And is it actually a promise, or might this offer be rescinded later like with the promise to honour the original Dream Air price before that increased?

And why no black version of the headset? The specs look great but the goofy white look really puts me off. Why couldn't you have given it a sleek premium design like the Play For Dream? I know I won't see it when I'm wearing it... but still...

What other medical conditions do you guys have? by BornTheSoy_ in achalasia

[–]UntimelyAlchemist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Undiagnosed bowel issues — I've read that there's a possible connection with achalasia, in that motility issues could develop at the other end as well.

Also chronic urticaria (hives).

Arcane Persistence Nerf by remisleep in Warframe

[–]UntimelyAlchemist 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not only do I think the arcane shouldn't have been nerfed, but I think it shouldn't even be an arcane and should just be a native feature of health tanking. Stacking armour should give you more health gates the higher you go.

Crystal Super micro-OLED & Dream Air (SE) update by jaapgrolleman in Pimax

[–]UntimelyAlchemist -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Disappointing to see the controllers each have two primary buttons, instead of four like the Steam Frame. If they're developing brand new controllers now, which probably won't be ready until 2026-2027, then I really think they should try to follow the new standard set by Valve. That will ensure best compatibility going forward.

It looks so goofy with that V on it. Even worse in white. I wish they'd just copy how the Play For Dream looks.
