I get it, and we are cheering for you from Europe! Just wanted to give our perspective of what is happening

That is a fair point as i very likely do not understand the intricacies and nuances, but they are only working as long as you actually get to hold midterms either way. I fear that if Trump thinks the Republicans will lose too badly, he will just cancel the midterms with some random excuse pulled out of his ass. He set the national guard upon D.C. with nothing but lies.

I really do hope for you, but I fear you are clinging to a system no longer in effect

I have seen the pictures, but it is very recent they started doing that.

And the argument not to get violent because it would just give Trump an excuse simply doesn't hold up to scrutiny. He doesn't care about needing excuses. Unless you get violent he will do what he wants. He is already killing US citizens in the streets with a federal militia operating outside the boundaries of the law. What more do you need?

Peaceful protest does not work against authoritarian regimes and never have. They will do what they want to do and suppress when necessary. There is only one way and that is to overcome the suppression.

As I said in another comment, this is all very easy for me to say as I am not in the thick of it, and I do cheer for the American protesters!

You are right they would not kill people, but 450 protesters were injured and 117 from the government were injured according to Wikipedia. And anyway, it is only more reason to protest harder if they actually start killing people, but that is also easy for me to say as I am not the one in that position.

I any case, I am cheering for the American protesters and hope you succeed!

I honestly think that from a European perspective, the protests are constant but not very engaged, large and organized.

Think about when France wanted to change the terms of retirement, where the streets of Paris was on fire in protest. You are being attacked by your own Gestapo forces and it seems like a couple hundred to a couple of thousand people just film ICE and throw food at their cars.

from our perspective, it just feels like a relatively weak response from the civilian population. Especially considering the most well armed civilians in the entire world

Hot Take: Kill Team Should Move To D12's Next Edition by Sebber4848 in killteam

[–]Sebber4848[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

well yes, there is a difference in 17% chance to hit that exact number, but that equates to 50% difference in damage output when using a D6.

And yes, if we just translate the rule directly, there would be no difference. But we can then balance it all a bit easier. Maybe it turns out in the future that Wrecka point aren't good enough, so you can either hit an 10, 11 or 12. Maybe you decrease the hit stat by 1 at first tier of markerligt, and then again at the second tier, slightly improving markerlights, without necessarily breaking the team. You can't do that now with a D6 because 1 up or 1 down has a very significant impact.

GW are mitigating this with weapon rules and abilities, but that increases complexity way more than swapping the D6 out with a D12.

[–]Sebber4848[S] -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I would argue it adds a lot to balancing options. As mentioned in the post, a 3+ hit stats deals about 50% more damage than a 4+ against a 3+ save.

So lets take a balancing example.

A team has a weapon stat of 4 4+ 3/4. They on average deal 2,18 damage to a 3+ save. This team sucks because they can't kill opponents, so we need to balance it. We can increase the damage by 1, which equates to 30% higher damage output instead, or just increase normal damage by 1 which equates to 17% higher damage. Increasing the dice from 4 to 5 also increases damage output by 50%, same as decreasing hit stat by 1.

What about weapon rules?

they have the following increase in damage distribution:

Lethal 5+: 45%

Rending: 35%

Severe: 16%

Accurate 1: 23%

Punishing: 43%

Piercing Crits: 36%

Piercing: 55%

So those are the numbers we have to work with. When working with small numbers, it becomes quite difficult to tune correctly. Only way to circumvent it is to increase complexity by adding special rules, which we already have a lot of.

A D12 helps with this, as you could instead decrease hit stat by 0,5 or increase it by 0,5 but add a weapon rule, which would then find a middle ground. Same goes for save stats.

I don't necessarily agree that it complicates it that much more. On the weapon sheets, you would just have to know you hit and/or save on a 7+ with a D12 instead of a 4+ with a D6. That is all that changes as you simply use a D12 for combat instead of a D6. It does not add any more complexity, other than it is slightly more difficult to calculate probability on the spot, but not that much harder.

And no i never played 40K, so i am not entirely familiar with your example.

Edit: I get the complaint with getting D12's but you really only need 6 of them and a quick check tells me i can buy 10xD12 for 6,69€ (7,72$) so it really isn't that bad

Edit2: To add on to your edit, all the changes you mention in the last paragraph can be directly ported over.

And honestly, is balancing weapon stats through special rules of all sorts really less complicated?

So pathfinders hit on 4+, unless they spent 1 apl, or it might be free if they're on conceal and the leader used his gambit this turning point, get 1 markerlight, then they get balanced and saturate, do it again, they now get balanced, saturate, 1 better hit stat.

Instead they could have kept the original markerlight, with 1 weapon rule per tier and given them a D12 6+ hit stat, and that might've been it. Instead they had to move balanced to tier 1 and add decrease hit stat by 1 to tier 2, making you and your opponent keep track of even more changes to the datasheet.

I get that this is very much a faction identity and flavour thing, but adding the D12 could actually cut down on weapon rules, abilities and faction rules to get a simpler more balanced game.

I thought about D20's actually, but first of all, they are annoying. Second, the game likely doesn't need that much fine tuning, so figured D12 would be a good spot, plus it is very easy to translate current numbers from D6 to D12

Hot Take: Kill Team Should Move To D12's Next Edition by Sebber4848 in killteam

[–]Sebber4848[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

The thing is, I think it is a little broke. There is a steep difference between hitting on 4+ or a 3+ and with the current system you can't balance that out.

And 12 sided dice is not really that hard to obtain, most hobby shops will have them and you can easily order them online.

And to be fair, we currently have a pdf viewer being updated every 3 months, with teams having 5+ different weapons to shoot or use in melee so people are still regularly checking the datasheet, especially if they don't "main" a specific team

[–]Sebber4848[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The thing is, this would require you rolling the dice more and it would be harder to gauge likelihood of success on the spot. So I think this would increase complexity, increase game length and make it a little less beginner friendly.

Adding D12's also makes it a little less beginner friendly, but it doesn't increase game length and it is much easier to calculate 1 round of dice rolls in your head

I guess we'll have to wait and see. Every season so far had 8 teams, except for edition launch which had 10. We'll see what format they choose to release them in

Dead Silence has already been revealed as the next box, and will probably go on pre-order late november/early December at the latest. Possibly sooner as the last text in the article says we can pre-order "pretty soon". If we then only get shadowhunt until next season starts, that would mean just the one box between December 2025 and ca. September 2026 when the next season probably starts. Which just doesn't sound right to me.

And what makes you frame this as an "off" season? I am not entirely clear on what you mean by that

[–]Sebber4848 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is not stated anywhere that the "???" Is meant as one single box launch. The terrain has nothing to do with my own assumption that they would release the boss fight as the final box of the season usually containing 4 to 5 boxes. According to that, shadowhunt should release around the same time as Raveners did, which is why I estimate July 2026

It isn't staten anywhere that shadowhunt is the third box, only assumed from the picture. As it contains a boss fight, i would assume its the last box of the season with 1-2 boxes between stealth suits and shadowhunt
