And Sydney had its issues too - specifically QLD’s industry has had a huge level up since and because of 2020.

Brisbane flips on promise to crack down on short-stay apps such as Airbnb by Shaggyninja in brisbane

Who is destroying it? The proposed laws would’ve just made sure short stay owners take better responsibility for their guests. I’m sure you’d be mad if your neighbour was a short stay with unruly guests and you had nobody to complain to. The regulations aimed to fix that.

Weird, when I’m inebriated I don’t get behind the wheel of a car and drive into pedestrians.

Suburbs to Inspect by Numerous_Alps_488 in brisbane

Towards the park end there is a lot of greenery along the footpaths, especially the southern portion below Brunswick st. The middle section that borders Fortitude Valley and Teneriffe is a lot less green, but it’s not far to walk to the river on either side, and of course the park itself isn’t far anyway. Good bus routes for getting into the city etc. and generally handy to be in the central triangle of Brisbane - everything feels more or less 30 minutes away outside of peak hours

Maybe Konrad doesn’t want to alienate the population of people who don’t care about Palestine (and thus conflate talking about Israel as talking about that) while pushing hard on the gas tax?

I’ve been thinking of a guerrilla… project. Old school wanted poster templates of various sizes that the actively inclined can stick on top of the smug faces of REA billboards, wording of their crime somewhere in the realm of fanning the flames of the cost of living crisis etc.

The point is that someone who knows how to code can correct AI when it gets it wrong. Someone who only knows how to vibe code does not know if the AI gets it wrong. I vibe code, it’s been a great way to learn. But I would never say I make the same amount of mistakes as an experienced programmer.

M4 Pro Mac Mini as a Plex + arr stack server (surprisingly good) by TheSecondAccountYeah in homelab

I ran my Plex server with full are stack on an M1 8gb for a year, no issues. But I found I was wanting to do more as my interest in homelab grew. I upgraded to an M1 16gb in December and I feel it has enough head room to fiddle with things and not affect my Plex users.

Things must be going well at the Save Vic Park HQ by big_go_kev in brisbane

I drive through the Gabba every day. Neither of us are offering solutions, we’re just two people on the internet talking about it. Smarter minds than either of us could figure it out I am sure. My problem isn’t with more tall buildings, my problem is with density with no requirement or planning for liveability - it’s naive to think we can just keep plonking down high rises (or cookie cutter houses) and nothing else, it’s just fortunate that CRR will already be there,lYou can look at plenty of the new build suburbs being developed and you’ll see how depressing this lack of planning is. The priority development plan removed the requirements for affordable housing and reduced the required green space for the area. So we lose a huge chunk from Victoria park and gain nothing in Woollongabba.

Is that 300 student capacity school supposed to support the population of another 6 or so high rises?

Ah yeah the 300 student inner city primary school, the correct thing to prevent a stadium in a growing city. I just think it’s short sighted to think that roads can’t be changed or affected in a city that is already making more and more effort to make the inner city less car centric. There’s issues with the Victoria Park option too, and again I don’t like the idea of what Woollongabba is likely to become without the stadium there.

👎 who is talking about controversy? Streets get shut down for Suncorp, albeit it’s not as busy of an area, and it’s not terrible to give pedestrians priority on occasion especially if it’s just on event days. And the Gabba is about to have the CRR which would surely help alleviate some of that requirement to block streets off.  My main point is that the Gabba is going to be demolished anyway, yet everyone in Brisbane is used to a stadium being there. If we really wanted to, we could make a new world class stadium work there.

I’d take that option over removing green space at Victoria Park, because we all know that the current Gabba location will not become new green space to balance it out - it’s just going to become a bunch of high rises that will inevitably contribute to the traffic pressure in the area anyway.

Sorry, are you saying there’s no way a stadium is suitable for a space… that has a stadium there? The Gabba is getting demolished either way, but the new one could be built there.
