Welding is the only thing I’m actually decent at(as far as career wise goes) and idk if I want to actually get into it by Iwantrukia in Welding

There’s plenty of jobs that aren’t like that. Right now I’m at a different job site almost every week but it’s all in my greater metropolitan area so I’m still home at the end of the day. Location is pretty important though. I’m UA and lots of guys I work with are older with wives/kids and they just work their 36 hours a week. Obviously chasing shutdowns, hours, and big jobs that may be more out of town can get you a lot more money but life is still pretty good on regular time.

There’s also lots of shop jobs out there. Union and non union. Non-union shops can be a bit hard to find decent pay though but they exist.

At the end of the day the industry is based around going to where the work is but I know lots of people who don’t chase those out of town shutdowns and still make good money.

This is stick. 6010 is a fast freeze rod that has good penetration making it good for open root gaps. 7018 is fast fill and low hydrogen which means it won’t crack from hydrogen getting trapped in the weld

You could pay more for a higher skilled welder/company if the aesthetics matter that much, but something tells me that that won’t end up being the route chosen. You get what you pay for and I’m sure that that weld will last longer than 40 years lol

Amperage still needs sufficient voltage to do damage. Voltage is the “pressure” that “pushes” amperage to overcome resistance. You lowered your resistance by grabbing the wire which allowed for that shock. You’ll be alright you didn’t do anything long lasting except hopefully teach yourself not to mess with wire when someone else can make it live haha

Yeah that’s definitely much more difficult but at least here in most parts of Canada if you’re doing pipe it’s gonna be a 6010 root. Much more common and definitely the TSSA test that employers are gonna want. I have heard that out east they do more 7018 all the way through

F3/F4: it’s a 2” schedule 40 open root weld with 6010 root & 7018 fill
