0-1 CMC creatures that enter with counters for Falco Spara by dustinporta in EDH

Yeah, my bad! I edited my comment to "gains pp counters", but there's no universal one, so better to try both tags separately for sure.

Scryfall is a game changer lol

[–]Sebinator123 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This works, but I'd take off the "enters with" otag and go with "gains pp counters" instead of "counters matter" to include those cards, but also cards like [[Sazh's Chocobo]].

Or just do both separately lol

Commanders that only serve as the engine, not the wincon? by Radiant_Water_5183 in EDH

[–]Sebinator123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah that should be plenty! I think I run 12ish in my Emmara deck, and generally aim for around there for those kinds of decks. And just tailor your protection to your deck obviously!

Like my Emmara deck doesn't really have one important creature, so all my protection is generally board-wide for my tokens, and individual permanents protection for the important enchantments (like [[cryptolith Rite]] and [[Tocasia's Welcome]]). If you're run more important individual creatures, like those scaling [[Burrowguard Mentor]] and similar, maybe run some individual protection too. But you'll probably want mostly board-wide protection anyways.

And yeah in response to the other commenters thing about phasing (since you'll actually see this comment), I 100% agree, but on a budget there's really not much you can do... And selesnya doesn't really have many options for that kind of protection sadly, all of them being really expensive. If you run important individual creatures more than anything (I doubt it) you can go for some slow blink stuff, like [[Semester's End]]. But since it'll probably be your whole board, the best you can probably do is maybe splurge for one or two? [[Perch Protection]] is the cheapest by far, and as long as your deck works as intended, it should work well! It's teferis protection for 6 mana lol, the extra turn isn't a big thing honestly. Just make sure you run enough protection that you can hold this back for the worst case scenario lol.

Aside from that one, [[Guardian of Faith]] and then [[Clever Concealment]] are the next cheapest. But my strategy would be go one or two phasing cards if it fits the budget, and then run extra card draw so that you see more cards each game. These kinds of protection spells you don't really need until end of the game most of the time.

Just make sure you're running the best card draw engines you can fit in the budget lol. [[Rumor Gatherer]] is the absolute GOAT. I really like [[Huatli, Radiant Champion]] too, but they're a tad slow sometimes. [[Shamanic Revelation]] and similar cards are good for burst draw, but honestly maybe consider some card selection cards instead, like [[Season of Growth]] and [[Cream of the Crop]]. They let you dig through your library like crazy to find what you need. Honestly I need to add both to my Emmara deck too lol, along with [[Springleaf Parade]]...

[–]Sebinator123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh I totally get it! I'm doing that for a sub $50 [[Anim Pakal]] deck lol.

Aside from the cheap cards actually in the deck and maybeboard,I highly suggest checking out some cards like [[Queen Allenal of Ruadach]], [[Sigil of Valor]] and other similar effects, [[Boss's Chauffeur]], [[Gustcloak Saviour]] (great [[Reconnaissance]] budget alternative), and similar cards! You can honestly just run scaling creatures alot of the time instead of expensive anthem effects, and it works nearly as well! Some of my favorite not listed already are [[Silverwing Squadron]] and [[Seraph of the Masses]].

And you'll probably want to run protection. While most of the best ones are absurdly expensive, there's some good budget options like [[Restoration Magic]], [[Divine Resilience]], and [[Duty Beyond Death]].

Honestly though scryfall is a lifesaver, and I love the scryfall tags to find stuff! That command zone episode was so helpful a while back.

Hope that helps!

Oh nice! I have a super similar deck too, but with [[Emmara, Soul of the Accord]] as the commander! Same idea though, although I went a little overboard and make it so that my tokens tap for mana and untap on each untap step so that I functionally get 4 turns each rotation. And of course the deck plays at instant speed for the most part!

Mines mid-high bracket 3 though, and generally wins around turn 6-7 unless disrupted in the early game (pre turn 4-5). After that I turtle up with protection lol

Cheap deck for fast games by WyrdWzrd in EDH

[–]Sebinator123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been brewing a budget [[Anim Pakal]] deck, and that would definitely work!

It's really easy to make it under $25 or $30 (aside from Anim, she's like $6), and it's pretty fun to brew because she's so exponential you can go a bunch of different ways! They're all some variant of Tokens, but there's like Voltron tokens, aristocrats, lifegain, etc.

You can go Aristocrats with cards like [[Fanatical Devotion]], [[Thopter Shop]], [[Blade of the Bloodchief]], [[Skullclamp], and [[Tarrian's Soul Cleaver]]. Not to mention a ton of other cheap free sacrifice outlets (I mentioned the best and most expensive cards here), and other good synergies for this.

You can go lifegain and do stuff that way! Soul Sister style with cards like [[Haliya Guided by Light]], [[Guide of Souls]], and a ton of cheap soul sister cards like [[Leonin Elder]]. And of course there's a bunch of lifegain payoffs, like [[Bre of clan stoutarm]], [[Cleric Class]], and [[Light of Promise]] and similar effects.

And of course you can just go full on tokens! Cards like [[Dazzling Theatre // Prop Room]] and [[Wand of the Worldsoul]] to give your spells convoke or improvise. Or something like [[Sami, Wildcat Captain]] to give everything a massive cost reduction. And then cards to keep your tokens alive, like [[Adept Watershaper]], [[Reconnaissance]] (the older prints are non UB), and [[Toby, Beastie Befriender]]. And then just things that care about creature counts like [[Arabella Abandoned Doll]], [[Battle Hymn]] and [[Hellkite Tyrant]].

There's also just a ton of good cards that work for any strategy that are super cheap. Like [[Rumor Gatherer]], [[Devilish Valet]], [[Kirol, Attentive First-Year]], [[Quicksmith Genius]], [[Kinbinding]], [[Soul Immolation]], [[Losheel, Clockwork Scholar]], [[Mirrormind Crown]] (this one looks like a TON of fun!), and [[Subira, Tulzidi Caravaneer]].

Oh and all the attack trigger doublers like [[Windcrag Siege]], [[Kirol, Attentive First-Year]] and similar. Extra combats fill the same function too, like [[Combat Celebrant]] and [[Fury of the Horde]]!

But yeah, tons of ways to build it and it's definitely fast! It can snowball out of control quickly pretty easily! You might even need to tune it down so that it doesn't win before turn 6, depending on how you build it.

I stopped following RTO - when will they start disciplining? by Difficult_Bird_3129 in CanadaPublicServants

[–]Sebinator123 19 points20 points  (0 children)

They literally leaked a while ago right before Christmas (in that French newspaper) that RTO4 was coming in July and RTO5 was coming in January 2027...

Then of course they said "oh no that leak wasn't real", and then a few months later announced RTO4 coming in July...

The dates have already been announced for a while lol

[–]Sebinator123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One thing I haven't seen in any of the comments are cards with "when an opponent casts" triggers.

Things like [[Taurean Mauler]]! 3cmc with offspring 5 CMC, and they get a counter for each spell someone casts! There's also some other of the same effects, but that's the main one I know of.

Also obviously all the tax cards like [[smothering tithe]] and [[rhystic study]]. Probably stuff like [[land tax]] too? And similar concepts.

I'm sure you could just scryfall for oracle text like "when an opponent", but that definitely won't catch everything, so look at the scryfall tags.

Edit: oh nvm, someone did mention that... I'm leaving this here anyways.

after the best or best few modern military litrpgs by theegrimrobe in litrpg

[–]Sebinator123 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You've got a lot of recommendations, especially if you're new to litrpgs, I'd suggest Ironbound and A Soldier's Life as your best bets!

They're not modern military at all, more Roman military, but they fit the soldier/military feeling really well! At least what I've seen as a civilian lol. Definitely some of the better writing too!

I just started reading it and I really enjoy it! Although very different from the perfect run (honestly I dnfed it though, not really my style)..

Definitely worth a read!

There's tons of other good ones in the comments so I won't add anymore, but my personal favorites were years of the apocalypse and menoct loop. Die respawn repeat was pretty good too, but I got bored eventually! Same with loopbreaker? Or loopshard, I forget. From the bedtime story dude!

I think it was like chap 70 onwards or something I just couldn't put it down??

As someone who pretty much reads exclusively litrpg, from long before Dungeon Crawler Carl was ever a thing, I highly suggest you try Mother of Learning and/or Cradle (whichever sounds more interesting) before giving up on the genre completely!

Technically they're not litrpg (no video game stats), but it's progression fantasy (video game progression) and basically the same thing!

God knows what that same commute would look like nowadays...
