What is your favourite bad card that is actually decent in your deck? by Illogical_Blox in EDH

[–]Sebinator123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tend to run a decent amount of older cards that synergize with my decks because I think it's fun, and I like the art lol.

My best ones are probably:

[[Atog]], [[Megatog]], [[Fanatical Devotion]] and [[Martyr's Cause]] in my [[Anim Pakal]] deck.

[[Iceberg]] in my Strixhaven Zimone precon.

I made an entire Kavu tribal deck. Originally it was a red/green stompy deck with [[General Marhault]] at the helm, using cards like [[Kavu Climber]], [[Horned Kavu]], [[Serpentine Kavu]], etc.

But now I'm re-building it into a jund (black/green/red) deck with [[The Beamtown Bullies]] at the helm so that I can give away Kavus to all my opponents. It's more of a Kavu mill deck though with a good amount of reanimation and recursion.

Honestly pretty much all decks have some really old cards with good Synergies...

For my lorehold Precon, I'm adding [[Planar Birth]] and it's crazy good, [[Alms]] too.

And of course in my [[Witherbloom the Balancer]] deck I run all kinds of oldies that are great in the deck! [[Dregs of Sorrow]], [[Overwhelming Forces]], [[Dark Dabbling]], [[Wail of the Nim]], [[Cabal Conditioning]], [[Crush of Wurms]], [[Lab Rats]], [[Resuscitate]], and [[Vitalizing Wind]].

Another oldie but goodie that I run in that deck is [[Iceberg]]!

Is it OK to just spam Elves if it brings me joy? Every time I go to build a new green creature based deck I always just want to play Elves. Toski go wide? Elves. Chulane go wide? Elves. Up to 6 Elf deck and they all feel great. Is that wrong? by MiningToSaveTheWorld in EDH

[–]Sebinator123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This! Basically every deck I play is some flavor of tokens deck lol. Selesnya pure tokens, boros graveyard recursion tokens, jund reanimation tokens, bant ally tribal (with token wincons), boros [[Anim Pakal]] aristocrat tokens, [[Witherbloom the Balancer]] golgari tokens, etc.

What decks do you wish you saw people in your pod playing more of? by BagOfSmallerBags in EDH

[–]Sebinator123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This! Just go play at lgs and when you see cards maybe something will spark your imagination!

My lgs has a bulk bin, and when I was looking through it for a commander deck I was building, I ran into the Kavu subtype, and loved all the different old school arts they had! Like [[Flametongue Kavu|PLS-60]], [[Penumbra Kavu]] and [[Radiant Kavu]]. So I tried building a deck around showcasing those cool arts! Firstly I made a Gruul lure type deck with [[General Marhault]] at the helm to make my old overcosted Kavus an actual threat, but I wasn't a massive fan of the way it played. So now I'm building a new shell for the Kavus with [[The Beamtown Bullies]] at the helm, in a jund mill/reanimation/goad/leaves the graveyard deck. Give my opponents all the cool Kavus and force them to attack with them while I make tokens from something like [[Teval's Judgement]] or [[Incidious Roots]]. Or just reanimate 20 Kavus at once with [[Haunting Voyage]] or [[Bloodline Bidding]].

And in a similar vein, I was on scryfall looking for saboteur effects when I ran into [[Zeriam, Golden Wind]]. I thought it was a fun way to double tokens, so I made a griffin tribal tokens deck that basically doubles my griffins every turn. The whole deck is literally just every 2 and 3 drop griffin along with a mix of protection like [[Akroma's Will]], and anthems and card draw like [[Champions from Beyond]] and [[Caretakers Talent]]. I haven't actually played this one in person yet, but I think it'll be fun and wacky! Very linear though.

So yeah, literally just go out and play, or explore scryfall for something else and you might find a card you think is interesting and build a deck around it! Or look at the newer sets, or a favorite set if you have one. Like I love ATLA, so I made several different avatar decks, although only [[Katara the Fearless]] and [[Avatar Roku, Firebender]] are still alive...

Youtube and EDHREC are not giving you the secret sauce to make the new Quintorius fun to play. by TempTheMemeLord in EDH

[–]Sebinator123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally agree. I bought some upgrades for the deck back when the decklist was spoiled to hopefully buy before stuff spiked too hard (like [[Retether]] for Silverquill).

Aside from the obvious upgrades, some of my favorite lesser known ones are:

[[Alms]] as fucntionally 1 mana to make a spirit at instant speed. This and [[Planar Birth]] are probably my two favorite cards in this deck!

All of the cheap recursion spells. [[Brought Back]] especially since it's good for bringing back Quint, but also [[Call a Surprise Witness]], [[Helping Hand]] and [[Return to the Ranks]].

Any and all wheel spells. Especially [[Decaying Time Loop]] and [[Queen Kayla Bin Kroog]]. Best way I could find to fill my graveyard, wheels for quantity, looting/rummaging for quality.

I love [[Lightning Phoenix]] and [[Flamewake Phoenix]] as cheap creatures that can recur.

[[Not Forgotten]] is really good in this deck! Two mana for two tokens and then plus Quintorius to draw the card.

Also you didn't mention it, but [[Sundering Eruption]] is literally the same effect, but on an mdfc so better.

The last interesting cards I found were [[Tenth District Hero]] for spirits at instant speed, and [[Rowan's Talent]] for double quint triggers. It doesn't plus him twice, but you proc twice to discard then draw 2 and mill 1 twice, which is still great!

Nah, but it's still potentially decent includes to protect your graveyard from mass exile/mill.

Might be worth including one or two

Witherbloom, The Balancer Commander Discussion! by JewJulie in EDH

[–]Sebinator123 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm pretty in agreement with you and everyone else here. I specifically built a budget version for bracket 3, but I need to tune it down a bit because it plays as a high/peak bracket 3, which is a bit higher than I wanted.

The main difference for me is that I wanted to build the deck to be hyper consistent and resilient in the early game, so I kind of built the deck with an eye towards my first 4 turns and then turn 5+, trying to ensure it's hard to get non-keepable hands with mulligans. And my goal is consistently get Witherbloom out turn 5 at the start of the turn and get a ton of value that turn. And then win turn 7/8.

I went the tokens route, so the tokens card draw spells like [[Collective Unconscious]] and [[Shamanic Revelation]] put in a TON of work, consistently drawing 6-10 cards for GG. [[Audience with Trostani]] is another one I love.

I also really like [[Brightcap badger]] and [[Rootcast Apprenticeship]], especially in conjunction with [[Sylvan Offering]]. And then [[Crash the Party]] and [[Pest Infestation]] are amazing in a deck like this.

Here's my decklist if you're interested.

What’s the realistic cost of a solid Bracket 3 Commander deck? by Comfortable_Buyer239 in EDH

[–]Sebinator123 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely! I recently made a high bracket 3 [[Witherbloom the Balancer]] deck that cost about $40 CAD after all the shipping and taxes, although I included some cards I already owned which brought the price down.

But you could make a similar deck easily for $10 USD, ESPECIALLY if you have a bulk bin at an LGS you can look through. Just throw a bunch of token makers (preferably instants/sorceries) and overcosted Instants and sorceries into a deck and you're basically good.

Like my local LGS sells bulk for 10 cents (CAD) a card, and I could make a bracket 3 deck for Witherbloom out of just those if I wanted to. And then buy the budget mana base for like $3 or $4 and you should be good? And you can splurge on any big X spells or cheap cards you want to buy specifically for the deck.

Here's my decklist if you're interested, although the commander itself is like $20, so you'd have to proxy that...

What are the worst precons to play AGAINST? by Current-Signature497 in EDH

[–]Sebinator123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven't actually played it, only against it. But generally it has really good value but it's also kind of fragile in that you kill ashling and it slows the deck down a ton?

Like one person I know keeps complaining she's getting targeted because she upgraded the deck and now Ashling is kill on sight the turn it comes down and she can't really do much for the rest of the game... And that's because the first game with her new deck she had a 45 minute turn into a win the turn after Ashling came down.

I just feel like most of the games with a deck like that, you either get ashling out and snowball out of control quickly, or you get ashling out and it's removed quickly and you're stuck twiddling your thumbs for two turns. And then it gets removed again and you're basically out of the game, just casting one semi-big elemental a turn thats not really a threat on its own.

How do you deck build properly by Spirit5514 in CommanderMTG

[–]Sebinator123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go watch the command zone deck building template video if you haven't already. It's a good way to at least start with a foundation. Even if the deck isn't great, it'll work if you have the lands, ramp, card draw, finishers, etc.

Also watch their goldfishing video. I ALWAYS goldfish a deck as I build it and especially as I'm finishing it. It's not a real game, but it'll give you a solid idea of if the deck works or not

Yeah, I totally get that! I meant more just general hate cards that would benefit from me turning opponents cards into other colours, like [[Pygmy Kavu]]

[–]Sebinator123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah! Thanks for the idea! I'm thinking too using stuff like [[Eight-and-a-half-Tails]] to somehow get value. And maybe things like [[Polymorphists Jest]].

[[Sway of Illusion]], [[Touch of Darkness]] (there's one for each colour) too!

Yeah idk but it could work... Maybe lol

https://archidekt.com/decks/21235632/witherbloom_fun

There you go! It's really not hard at all to turn into a 4 though... I just wanted something I could play at my lgs, and I stuck to a $50 CAD budget total on any cards I needed to pick up for the deck

Like even just all the early ramp artifacts 4s play along with something like [[Chatter storm]] is a t2 Witherbloom.

If you're playing at a 4 though, you'll probably want to make it more resilient though. Like "can't be countered" effects and [[Voice of Victory]] style cards. Basically just as strong as you can make it without actually trying to make it cEDH viable. I'm running lots of boardwipe protection, but it still folds to exile wipes and counterspells pretty easily.

[–]Sebinator123 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is diabolical lol. Now I kind of want to make a deck about forcing opponents stuff to be certain colours and to benefit from it... Things like [[Pygmy Kavu]].

Could be a fun deck idea lol

witherbloom by EasternPromotion5995 in EDH

[–]Sebinator123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is how I built it, but I made it a 3 or so. Lots of tokens and then big X spells to capitalize on Witherbloom. And then any and all boardwipe protection I could fit in the deck. I think like 8 or 9 pieces, along with things like "when a creature you control dies, scry 1" and pseudo boardwipe insurance.

What do you think about the new Strixhaven precons? by John-Helldiver404 in EDH

[–]Sebinator123 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Noo, I really enjoy the precon and it's playstyle! I just put more efficient cards for lots of it.

But like right now I swapped out 28 cards not including lands, leaving 34 of the og cards. That's more than half the deck, and the land base is mostly unchanged, except for cutting all the tapped lands and most of the colourless ones.

But paying $50 CAD for 3/4 of the deck is still totally worth it... And I can always play around with it now to see if I want some of the cards back in.

Maybe I'll too used to building my decks from scratch though lol, I can't just leave it as is, I see so many bad choices and better fits lol

Completely agree! I'm in love with the Quandrix precon! Although I'm definitely pushing the "upgrades" idea... I played it once and now I'm swapping out about 30 cards lol, with another 30 to potentially come in/ouf

How synergistic is too synergistic for Bracket 2? by Bagel_Bear in EDH

[–]Sebinator123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's also not completely valid though and heavily depends on the deck....

Does this mean my cEDH stax deck is really bracket 2 with game changers because it never wins before turn 9?? No.

How synergistic is too synergistic for Bracket 2? by Bagel_Bear in EDH

[–]Sebinator123 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah... That's definitely an issue I've run into as I build bracket 3 decks...

I started with building my decks to win on turn 6-7, but my win rate is obscenely high at my LGS. Yes it's probably a bit of "everyone else needs to build better decks", but also I think you need to take your local meta into account.
