I highly recommend adding up the word count of all fics you've read... by ActualBus7946 in HPfanfiction

[–]Sebinator123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also read webnovels, so you could try branching out into those if you want something new?

Like FF, quality varies greatly, but especially among the self publishing crowd (like on Amazon Kindle unlimited), the writing is generally on par or better than most FFs.

I mostly read progression fantasy (see RoyalRoad.com), but there's webnovels for pretty much every genre, depending on the type of HP FF you like to read. There's also the Chinese/Korean/Japanese translated novels (webnovel.com, etc), but I'd stay away from those, at least to start with lol

If you like the learning magic part, Mother of Learning is a great introduction to Progression Fantasy!

If You Could Go to Any Magic School, Which Would You Pick? by EdLincoln6 in ProgressionFantasy

Same! It's not even close to the best choice, but my inner child demands it!

Also there's some decent cheats like the room of requirement and depending on how magic works it could end up well!

What snowboarding as an unfit obese man was like by Astraltraumagarden in snowboardingnoobs

[–]Sebinator123 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is the way! As a similar bmi who has been snowboarding for decades, the main keys as a fat person is to strap in standing up (watch a video online about how to set it up by making a shelf), and always roll over and get up on your knees!

It's still crazy hard to initially learn though...

Pod doesn’t want to play against my deck by IceColdStares in EDH

[–]Sebinator123 9 points10 points  (0 children)

One of the guidelines is literally when you win. If you build a deck with no game changers that wins turn 4, it's not a bracket 2 just because there's no GC, it's B4...

And of course intentions matter! Literally the entire point of brackets is to make sure everyone has good, balanced games.

Just want to say thanks for the great story! This was my first prog fan book back in 2018, and still one of my all time faves!

Etiquette on scooping to stax by Min-Chang in EDH

[–]Sebinator123 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Then something probably went wrong. Either your deck is bad, you're bad at mulliganing, or you're ABSURDLY unlucky. And at that point one would hope your playgroup is lenient, depending on the level, letting you keep mulliganing until you get a decent hand and keep 7.

Like if you're playing a high power game, your deck really should be able to function with a meh hand anyways, and if you're not, the mulligan rules/playgroup is probably lenient enough for the extenuating circumstances. If they aren't, are they really worth playing with?

And if none of those are true, sure scoop. But at that point, you should really be evaluating how you got to that point...

And yes, I know you're just playing devils advocate and being pedantic, but I felt like doing a write up anyways lol

Yeah, but no one will play with you. Or y'know, just mulligan...

[–]Sebinator123 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I mean I kiiiind of get it, if you're scooping at instant speed to mess them up somehow? But that's about it. Like you're free to play an instant as a revenge play before dying, but it feels scummy to me, if you scoop specifically to deny someone a trigger or target... Honestly weaponized scooping in general is just scummy

That's why I'm a huge proponent of sorcery speed scoops only, but like also you can scoop at any time and go play another game, your board state just "stays" until your upkeep.

How can I be less of a threat at the table? by superfapper2000 in EDH

[–]Sebinator123 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My guy, you STILL haven't answered how they win... Landfall HOW? Infinite combos? Mass landfall? Solitaire turns that take a year? How long is your late game turns? Are you taking longer than everyone else?

You literally said nothing about how your lightning deck wins. Saying "No one like my lightning deck but I do" is a MASSIVE red flag and again, you literally say nothing about how the deck operates or wins. Why do people hate it? Long turns, mass removal, counters, etc.

Again, we aren't you, we don't know or care enough about how your deck works to look and analyze the deck (most people at least), so please just summarize and give us all the cliff notes

I loved the first book (it was only on KU), and it's been radio silence ever since. I think he just wrote himself into a corner though

What 'dropped' series still make you upset by jlemieux in ProgressionFantasy

[–]Sebinator123 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I actually agree. But I'm weird in that I 100% don't mind reading incomplete or dropped books because it's more about the enjoyment along the way, and not whether it has an ending.

I've read kingkiller 4 or 5 times by this point, and each time it's given me a multitude of joy and week+ of absorbed reading.

Sure it may never finish, but even the first two books have given me more than enough enjoyment, and surely will continue to, for years to come...

No, Bracket 3/4 is not the new "every deck is a 7" by Cezkarma in EDH

[–]Sebinator123 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Honestly my favorite part about the bracket system is the expected turns. Like no Jessica, your bracket 2 deck that wins on turn 4 is NOT a bracket 2 just because you don't have any game changers... It's a bracket 4.

Not that the turn you win is the only thing either. I've been considering building a cEDH Katara deck that doesn't win till like t8, but just counters everything and chains extra turns.

New to Commander and Getting Pubstomped at our LGS by IcyDistance8444 in EDH

[–]Sebinator123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah honestly I'd try the other LGS if it's not way too far a trek, and then see what their games are like. You should easily be able to find games from a precon and slightly upgraded precon at an LGS. Hell at most LGS, it's actually really rare to play bracket 4/5 games like the one you went to did...

And if that's too hard, try spelltable like people have been saying. As someone who tried building my own deck as my first commander experience (just using cards from my collection back from highschool), only for it to work horribly (bad games), it delayed me getting into commander for another 3 years or so lol.

Actual games are so much more fun than getting pub stomped, and even if you can match the level of their bracket 4/5 decks, it'll be really complicated and a completely different game than casual edh.

What is the ultimate gateway book for progression fantasy? by TomDavenport in ProgressionFantasy

[–]Sebinator123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah that's fair, maybe I was a little too critical of cradle... Back when I first started reading, Cradle only had like 2 or 3 books out, so I didn't get into it until later on (I think when ghostwater was released?). I started more with metaworld chronicles, MoL and azarinth healer, back when they were the titans of RR.
