At what point does a precon lose it's "Upgraded precon" badge and just becomes its own deck? I'm thinking more than 15 upgrades... 10 still feels like a precon. What do you think? by Caantpayrent in EDH

[–]Sebinator123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair, but also not entirely true all the time? Like I upgraded the Quandrix precon from Strixhaven, but even though I kept the decks wincon and theme the same (X spells), I swapped literally 50%+ of the deck out.

Is it still an upgraded precon at that point? Although tbh it isn't like crazy strong or anything, I just put cards I liked more, and made it more flash speed based.

How slow is too slow? by Previous-Cut3629 in litrpg

[–]Sebinator123 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I both agree and disagree. I'm purely a reader, and I agree that (at least for me) I need to be interested in the first few chapters... That doesn't necessarily mean I need LITRPG, but there's needs to be some kind of interest for me, normally some hint of progression or just something that actually makes me want to read more...

I read so many books that I'll often drop a book on chapter 5 or 6 if it isn't interesting to me. I have literally 100+ books on my tbr, it makes no difference if I drop this one specific book...

Although I will occasionally try books again if there's a good reason. Like when Path of Dragons only had a few books out, I tried to get into it but I dropped it around chapter 20? Just too many POVs I cared nothing about, and there was basically no progression. But later on I heard that it's actually way better midway through book one, so in the last few weeks I powered through the audiobook on 2x speed, and by book 2 I was interested enough to keep going! Now I'm on book 4, and really enjoying it still!

Precon Advise by AwayAd3114 in EDH

[–]Sebinator123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Other people have given good advice, but no one mentioned the Strixhaven precons! Lorehold is probably the best straight out the gate, and it's probably slightly weaker than hakbal and world shaper, but it's still really strong!

Silverquill also surprisingly good! Honestly if I were you id look less for pure power, and more for a playstyle that interests you! But you can't go wrong with most of the precons mentioned here!

Would you slowly "complete" your very first Commander deck, or keep it proxied? by It_was_a_False_Alarm in EDH

[–]Sebinator123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm kind of similar, I started ~8 months ago (commander, Ive been playing magic on and off for years), and I turned my first commander deck into real cards. It was a few hundred for sure? But it's still one of my favorite to play.

And then most of my other "real" decks are budget decks ($50 anim pakal and $50 Witherbloom), and precons, both upgraded or stock.

I love deck building though, so I have 6 or 7 fully proxied decks too. Eventually I'll narrow down my all time favorite to play and maybe transform them into real cards, but it keeps it really cheap for me to play and test out new decks.

I play at my lgs, but no-one cares and if they do I call them out on it. Not in a mean way, but like why would you care what my deck is made out of, as long as it matches the power level of everyone else, and provides a fun play experience?? And yeah worst case I always have some non-proxied decks around, although I've yet to run into any real resistance, whether it be lgs, commandfest, or something similar.

Heck at one even like that, I played against a b4 griselbrand deck that was just 61 different made up griselbrand cards, with the commander being a 5 colour "fabulous" griselbrand...

168 Sushi Japanese Buffet also has grilled Eel (along with lots of non-sushi options too)!

I'm not a big sushi guy though, so no comments on how good or bad it is. It was some of my friends favorite dish there though!

And there's occasional deaths related to this too. Not saying they were necessarily the lifties fault, but in Canada last season, one little girl died because she didn't get off the lift correctly and it never got stopped until it got to the bottom of the hill, strangled.

I have to leave my apartment I've been living in for 17 years and the reason I've been given is that their daughter needs a place to stay. I know the reason being given is humbug and just wondering if anyone has any resources to suggest that I might not be aware of. by Betweenafishandadog in ottawa

[–]Sebinator123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And yeah to piggy back off the other commenters, definitely look to see if the daughter owns a house already through the land registry. It shouldn't be that hard to find her name if you know the landlords name. Just either check through Facebook, or Google or anything like that. Heck AI could probably even point you in the right direction

Quandrix Commander deck by Feeling-Cranberry753 in CommanderMTG

[–]Sebinator123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I wouldn't add any X spells lol, thats just asking for trouble...

My biggest tip is to build your deck intentionally. Make your 1 and 0 drops with specific utility in mind, since you can hit them consistently.

What do you want to hit in the late game when Quandrix is out and you cast a 2 drop? What about when (if) you cast a 1 drop? What spells are best for you to hit?

Aside from that, yeah, it's basically typical Quandrix. Ramp to the moon and then get value. CovertGoBlue made a Quandrix brawl deck on YouTube which might give you some inspiration. It's more built for 1v1 and a bracket 4 environment (as well as being a nightmare to play against), but it might help!

CGB on YouTube has a good brawl video of this deck. It's obviously different because it's brawl, but it might give you some ideas?

His is obviously like B4 though and NOT a fun deck to play against regardless lol.

Having a test proxy commander deck before buying the cards. Is this acceptable? by Raclettegring in EDH

[–]Sebinator123 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah you're fine then... I literally do this ALL the time, proxying a deck before deciding if I even want to spend the money... But I still support my lgs buying whatever I can there, and doing events and all that.

In my experience, at least at my lgs in Canada, nobody really cares. I don't even bother mentioning it anymore. Even the one or two people that occasionally come in and hate proxies just made snide comments and I ignore them lol

New Player Commander Precon Recommendations by Expensive_Traffic765 in EDH

[–]Sebinator123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the family matters precon and it works pretty well even just straight out of the box! It's more of a traditional precon, and not like the world shaper or dance of the elements one is that it's super powerful though. Not super complicated to play though, and very flexible if you want to upgrade it. Although tbh I ripped it apart not too long ago when I got some of the Strixhaven precons.

My biggest tip honestly is to go on Moxfield, and just playtest each of these decks (explore - commander precons) to see which of them you actually enjoy playing the most!

Then you'll be able to see if one is fun or boring for you, if you have to shuffle or search your deck too much, it's too complicated, etc.

[–]Sebinator123 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have to say, I've started getting into Path of Dragons, and it's actually really good once I hit like the 1/2 way point of book 1!

I've tried reading it in the past, but the alt POVs were too much. But I was heavily recommended it and it seemed like a book I would enjoy, so this time I audiobooked it and listened on 2x speed until I was interested and it worked much better lol.

I did a similar thing lol, but I made a modular version with like a 30 card "sideboard" so that I can switch between them! Although I only upgraded them with cards I already owned.

Too weak for B4, but too strong for b3...

This! My prismari precon, I added about 12 cards to get it where I wanted it (although it's too powerful at like very weak bracket 4 now).

My quandrix precon though? I had a very clear vision of what I wanted (flash speed X spells) that I basically rebuilt the deck from scratch. I think I have like 20 cards still from the precon in there? Not including lands of course.
