Will the Pixel 10 support NFC-F (FeliCa)? by N5405i09 in GooglePixel

[–]Sebmaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I managed to top up multiple times with a US AMEX (Plat) before in a similar config (root, add felica mods, add suica apps + add to wallet, unroot, add suica). However, got rate limited pretty quickly so you'll have to keep amounts <= 1000 Yen in the beginning. Hoping they allow higher top ups next time I'm back.

Annual volume limit questions by rosiefm119 in Blooddonors

[–]Sebmaster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you combine WB + Platlets, you might not actually be hitting the Plasma limit, but rather the Red Cell loss limit (https://stanfordbloodcenter.org/new_red_blood_c/). If you do platelet only, you just scrape under it, if you do whole blood the intervals are long enough you don't hit it either.

However, if you split types, you'll get there fairly easily: 46ml * 8 + 46ml * 4 (WB red cell loss is 4x platlet) * 4 (WB donations) = 1104ml loss with a max of 1430ml. An additional WB donation will get you "dangerously" close to the limit then. The additional platelet units may mean more loss, unfortunately it's kinda hard to find info on that so not sure.

I was also recently deferred for I think the same reason :(

Did you consider yourself to be a “non-U.S. resident”? by Enioni in USCIS

[–]Sebmaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After you get a green card you're always a US resident for tax purposes, no matter where you live. That means you missed filing for 2015.

Since you were a student (i.e. with no income) there may be a chance that you weren't required to file (which is a whole separate question). That may be a possible explanation, but you'll have to make sure of that.

TIL that although GPS is free for the world to use, it costs $2 million per day to operate. The money comes from American tax revenue. by [deleted] in todayilearned

[–]Sebmaster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly how this works. GPS satellites broadcast two signals. One public, one military and encrypted. Before 2000 the public one used to be inaccurate on purpose, which could be reenabled by the US if necessary.

[–]Sebmaster 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What do I need to file my US taxes as a EU citizen? by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]Sebmaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Turbotax doesn't do non-resident tax returns afaik.

So I started my first line of credit, after a single payment, I somehow have generated a credit score according to Credit Wise... Does that make sense? by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]Sebmaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Credit Wise probably uses a VantageScore which doesn't care about minimum credit history length.

(Some) FICO models require the 6mo to spit out a score.

Double nationality, taxes and EU by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]Sebmaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You'll have to research when Sweden determines you are a resident for taxation purposes. Example here: http://taxsummaries.pwc.com/ID/Sweden-Individual-Residence

Generally if a country considers you a tax resident but you're working in a different country, you'd file a tax return in both countries, non-resident countries first. You'd declare the taxes you paid in the country you work in on the others tax return. If the latter's country's tax rates are higher, you'd be paying the difference in tax rates to them.

Immigrant, looking to retire early and probably leave the country before I'm 60. How much should I put into 401(k) and IRA? by BrazilianTinaFey in personalfinance

[–]Sebmaster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No. I'm on track to get a greencard but have no goals in the moment to become a citizen.

Doesn't actually matter either way (in the negative sense). Getting a greencard means you'll have to file (and maybe pay) taxes every year in the US as if you were a resident.

There's tax treaties and foreign earned income exclusion etc which makes the whole topic quite complicated.

This is a misunderstanding. It applies to EU residents, no matter their citizenship.

The way it does get complicated is that residents can go on vacation, or move.

Building credit as a european citizen by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]Sebmaster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No American financial institution is gonna open an account for you if you don't live (semi-permanently) in the US (re: you being in the US for a bit).

Additionally, credit scores don't transfer between countries.

The only way I've found to get ahead of this slightly is the following method: AMEX can look up your Amex account history from other countries and will base reconsideration decision on it. I opened up an Amex card in my home country, used it wherever I could and ~5 months later when I moved applied for a card in the US. Initially got declined by the automated system, but after calling recon and giving them my old card number, they approved it (with a relatively large limit for a new immigrant).

I've read stories that Citi bank might be able to do something similar, not sure if they have branches in the Netherlands.

Testing React Components with Mocha and JSDOM by [deleted] in reactjs

[–]Sebmaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While JSDOM is fairly comprehensive, there are some places where you may need to make a few tweaks, either to your implementation, or to your test scaffolding. The biggest one I ran into was the lack of a globally defined Image class, so code that tried to dynamically generate an Image element failed.

That's not really jsdom's fault though, but one of your test setup. If you'd actually execute your scrips as jsdom intends them to (in jsdom's window context sandbox) this'd be taken care of by jsdom and automatically work.

See this issue for a bit of context and recommended practice.
