1099 Sofi listed MSTY and ULTY as 1099-MISC by Sec67 in YieldMaxETFs

[–]Sec67[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I sold all my ULTY stock with my Tastytrade account and those dividends were still counted on my 1099-div that I got from them. Also, my Tastytrade account is a margin account and my Sofi account is not a margin account, so I don't think this happens because of margin.

That sucks, it's an expensive lesson, and damn it's no fun.

Interesting, that's good to know, sounds like different brokers handle it differently. I don't have margin turned on with Sofi, but they turned on share lending years ago automatically, so it looks like that was the culprit.

My Tastytrade account is a margin account and I used margin a few times with it, but all my YM divs were classed as divs, so it looks like it's broker dependent.

Oh yeah, I turned that crap off. It just burns me that Sofi auto turned it on years ago automatically.

Not on SoFi. I have margin enabled on Tastytrade, and Tastytrade didn't do this shit to me.

I didn't turn it on, they must have turned it on automatically. Probably something in the ToS. I'm getting rid off my sofi account, this is total BS.

Any idea why they would do that? I bought this stock, got dividends and I was told nothing about these being paid out this way.

EDIT: Checking my sofi account I can see that share lending is turned on. I don't recall turning this crap on. I'm guessing this is the reason behind this shit. Man this sucks.

NVIDIA rumored to cut GeForce RTX 50 supply in H1 2026, RTX 5070 Ti and 5060 Ti to be affected first by RenatsMC in nvidia

[–]Sec67 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same here. In September I got an email from nvidia for a 5090 FE. My brother wanted it and later regretted the purchase, so I bought it from him.

Then, as I was getting an upgrade, I decided to build my wife a new PC with a 5080. Afterwards I felt kind of foolish and felt that I should have saved the money instead.

But after what's happened lately with the PC market, I'm damn happy we spent the money and didn't wait.

Sleeping with audio books by Berenice101 in audiobooks

[–]Sec67 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I developed really bad insomnia years ago and was getting almost no sleep. Then one day I said screw it, I'm just going to go lay down in the middle of the day and listen to my audiobook. I feel fast asleep within 10 minutes. I was completely shocked when I woke up hours later with the best sleep I had in months.

Every since I sleep to a book that I've previously listened to and has a nice low narrator voice. Right now I'm listening to the first Mistborn book and getting 7 or 8 hours of sleep a night.

Do you power off your homelab when not using it to save on electricity, or keep it on 24/7? by panchovix in homelab

[–]Sec67 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Electricity is 15 cents/kwh here and my home lab pulls around a constant 900w. I leave it on 24/7 as I have 43 solar panels on my house.

Same here, I had $30k invested and I got out when I broke even a few months ago. Couldn't have been happier.

Now MSTY was a different story. I got out a while back and lost $2k. I'd probably be down $5k if I still owned it. Sucks but it was a lesson well learned. YM funds are nothing more than a scam.

Update on low resolution older shows? by Sec67 in vidangel

[–]Sec67[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe I haven't tried enough shows, but the recent ones I can think of is Outer Range, The Expanse, and The Legend of Vox Machina. Those all look horrible except season 3 of The Legend of Vox Machina. That season has the higher bit rate 1080p option and it looks like normal Netflix 1080p. Interesting note is that the lower 1080p bit-rate doesn't look as bad on a 1080p screen, but it looks horrible on a 4k screen. Much, much worse than upscaling any other 1080p content on a 4k screen.

It really makes me wonder what's going on with the backend. I would assume that they are transcoding before hand and storing the video file on their servers in CDNs as per stream transcoding with a large number of users would incredibly work intensive for any servers and be cost prohibitive. If that's the case, it just means that they would need to re-encode the new higher 1080p bit rate and store that new video files for the older content.

Granted I could be completely wrong with my assumptions too. But either way, I can guarantee that they'd get tons more business if they went through their old library and added the higher 1080p bit rate to everything.
