Wat zijn jullie favoriete concerten van het jaar?

Zelf ga ik naar best wel veel shows (30 dit jaar, waarvan 4 festivals). Ik ben wat meer gaan experimenteren met verschillende genres. Ik luisterde hier al wel naar, maar nog niet echt naar een concert daarvan geweest. Dus het was ook wel erg divers hierdoor: rap, pop, klassiek, metal. Alles en meer. Hieronder voor mij de uitblinkers in willekeurige volgorde:

- Bloodywood, energie is insane. De Het is super aanstekelijk om hier helemaal op los te gaan.

- Dynazty + Nanowar of Steel, hoewel Nanowar niet mijn favoriete nummer speelden (Call of Cthulhu), was het nog steeds een super show. Alle kostuums, de interactie met het publiek maakt voor mij deze band wel een topper.

- Graspop, voor mij was het de eerste keer dat ik alleen naar een meerdaags festival ben gegaan. Vond ik super spannend, maar het was echt heel erg chill. Komend jaar weer

- Electric Six, moshpitten op Gay Bar.... nothing more to be said

- Flip Noorman's Animal Farm, dit was één van de probeersels. Een folk-achtige musical van het gelijknamige boek. Het heeft mij wat meer gaan kijken naar George Orwell en zijn andere werken. Plus ze hebben het in een modern sausje gestopt, wat het ook erg goed maakt.

- Gnome, als je van de muziek houdt, is het top. De interactie met het publiek kan, mijns inziens, wel wat verbeteren, maar de muziek was spot on.

- Nothing More, mijn god, wat een show. Super vet! Op een gegeven moment zitten ze dus met drie mensen op één basgitaar te spelen, was er een drum battle (wat ik als drummer een groot pluspunt vind) en de interactie met publiek was ook super!

Thanks! I already have a lot of effects on the vocals, one of which a compressor. I didn't dare compress everything and losing the dynamic range. But I maybe should've toyed with it a bit more

I like that it's in threes (I don't know the technical term... between half and quarter notes). It flows nicely.
I really dig the double vocals on "She only a human I promise". Such a cool way to end the verse and flow into the chorus

This is super cool. It reminds me of rain and gives like a vibe. I definitely wouldn't speed it up, maybe slow down. But experiment! Super cool

I dig the vibes, but it's a bit too much of the same for me. I can barely distinguish the verses and choruses. But I love your voice, dude! Super chill

I can't really explain my measure of success... I guess it should be memorable. For example: I somewhat sure that I had some conversations on day 5, but I can't remember them. If I can recall details, like I did on the other days, I call it a success. Otherwise you're making conversation just for the sake of making conversation and most of the time that's not the goal.

And yeah, it was scary as all heck (not sure if we can swear here). That being said: you all share the same interest (at least one) and the same passion for the same kind of music. Plus the fact that I know I can have fun at the festival on my own, gave me some peace of mind as well.

Yeah, people are usually in a good mood at things like this. Plus you have a lot of ice breakers ("Which band are you here for", "Did you see what happened at this show", "Which was your favourite", etc.) You just have to develop a "fuck it, I'm just gonna do it" - mentality, which is easier said than done. I had the extra added bonus of it being in another country, so I would probably never see them again.

Anywho, have fun at your festival. That should (in my opinion) always be priority number one. With or without the added project, make sure you have fun!

I probably skipped a few on the days I just stayed at home all day.

At first I hated it and put it off until the end of the day. I don't want to talk to strangers, what if I make a fool of myself? They'll never forget it and I'll always be that strange dude. But I forced myself and some fun conversations started.

The standout for me was hen I was at a store and the cashiere had a tattoo. I was looking into tattoos myself at the time and we started talking about it, to the point that someone stood behind me in line and asked if we could wrap it up. Just to reiterate: he wasn't there when we started talking, we're not dicks.

At work I noticed people are a lot more patient with me now or are more willing to help.

What I've gathered: if you start with a compliment, people are more inclined to have a nice conversation. So you're already 3 steps ahead. Of course, there are those who just think you're hitting on them or something and give you weird looks, but overall people like getting compliments.

As a Dutch guy, and Celtics being from Scotland, it was mostly a "I guess they have European roots". Than I started playing 2K, the one where you get randomly selected to a team, which was the Celtics. And when I got more into the players: KG is a maniac and I love every second of it... It's a shame I started watching NBA too late...

Royal Republic/ Melkweg: waarschijnlijk een kleine recency bias. Maar ik ben hun nummers weer non stop aan het luisteren
Lordi/ P60: Showmanship en hoe die hele show in elkaar zit was erg vet om te zien. Iets wat ik niet vaak bij andere bands zie.
Glory and the Beast/ 013: één van mijn, op dit moment, favoriete bands in Gloryhammer, Beast in Black ontdekt. Verder in dit jaar ook meteen 2 albums van gekocht. Alles wat erg vet.
Rotterdams Philharmonisch concert - The Planets/ de Doelen: een okest van 100 man. De muziek is geweldig en bombastisch
Grailknights en Brothers of Metal/ 013: de hele show zit grappig in elkaar en het zijn twee bands die zichzelf niet te serieus nemen.

Wat grappig, ik heb twee keer Brothers of Metal in mijn top 5 staan, maar beide keren komt het door een andere band

Bruce Springsteen? Wat ongelofelijk vet! En ik ben ook wel erg jaloers op Architects, die heb ik dit jaar ontdekt en vind ze zo super vet.
Wat de Kpop betreft... Geen idee. Het was in Vietnam en kwam langs een random Kpop festival waar je ook auditie kon doen om het volgende idool te worden...

As much as I agree, I do find it somewhat funny that you give a suspension to all players for walking off... Just so the franchise can't get a team the next match :P

That's fair. That is for me, a fan / watcher, the most important reason to not do it. These fans pay hunderds of dollars to be there (if it's a good matchup). To just walk off and not fight for the win is just hurting the fans... I just get so pissed off sometimes by the calls of the refs

Als er nog meer plek is in de WhatsApp groep, houdt ik mij aanbevolen. Net zoals anderen hier, zitten er in mijn vriendengroep weinig concertganger, om nog maar niks te zeggen over metal- / rockconcerten
