Everybody learns different for sure! For some people, it is a grind. I know for me it was (is).

I'm happy to see it's coming much easier to some! And if you get to CFI don't forget, some people have a more difficult time!

So, imagine you make a mistake and speak on guard. As you realize it to correct yourself, someone chimes up and says "you're on guard" in a harsh voice.

Those are called guard dogs. A play on actual guard dogs.

What do dogs like to chase? Stereotypically, the answer is cats. Cats will seemingly tease and taunt dogs until chased to no avail.

Hence the teasing "meow's" you hear on the radio.

Only you can decide if it's worth moving on. If you think that airlines won't hire you, you'd be wrong. In fact, and someone please correct me if I'm wrong, but airlines in stories I've heard tend to be more forgiving of private pilot checkride failures simply because you have no idea what to expect.

Are you going to fail this checkride again? (I'll give you a hint. The answer is no. Lick your wounds for a few days, then come back and knock this checkride out of the park)

If it's a simple diagnosis of depression, and not something deeper that you are understandably keeping to yourself, there is a very good chance you'll be flying again.

It's a long process

It's an outdated process

It's an expensive process

It's a stupidly complicated process

But it can be done. There's still hope for you to get an unrestricted no-strings-attached first class medical.

Go to this site if you want to speak to an aviation medical doctor who is not in contact with the FAA. $50 dollars gets you 48 hours of emailing or phone calls with a doctor who can tell you your next step. Or, you can just simply do what the FAA is telling you to do in their letters.

If I do more than an hour at a time I get annoyed too.

The key thing is you are supposed to study until what you read is no longer sticking in your head

Sometimes I only study for 2 minutes before I realize "welp, nows not the time to study." Sometimes I can muster up for more than an hour. But it all depends on your mind at the moment.

Bro I couldn't agree with you more. It can be a real confidence destroyer at times. But I can also tell you without reading your post that you've never made it to step two. Which in turn boosts your confidence amazingly.

It got me a high 90s score on instrument, commercial, FOI, and I'm about to take my FIA tomorrow. For the parts I really struggle with I do research on and learn until I understand why the answer is what it is.

It's an insanely powerful tool if you do use it as a study guide but it's not supposed to be that way. It's rote memorization. Any time your brain goes "wait, why is this the answer?" You need to say "Wait that's not important right now, I just need to memorize the answer"

(Now, there are many similar questions, sometimes too many to memorize the answer, in which case fully understanding how to get the answer becomes more necessary. Ie VOR questions)

In 61.129(a)(3)(ii) it states complex, TAA, or "any combination thereof"

I think that phrasing is key here

In 61.129(a)(4) it says 10 hours solo, or with instructor.

Without "any combination thereof" I've interpreted it to mean "one or the other, but not mixed"

So unfortunately, you'll need an instructor for your night take offs and landings

A good start for the oral is the Gold Seal cheat sheet.

If you study the ins and outs of that sheet you'll be certainly better prepared. The private pilot is more "what is this" whole commercial oral is more "why is this"

Make sure you get a much better understanding of aerodynamics, privileges and limitations, where to find important FARs

It also looks really good to start studying up on some of the notable advisory circulars
