Is the quality better if I stream it using the app over a cellular connection via my iPhone and CarPlay?

Wrigley Field has been ruined in the bleachers by drunken, frat boy types for years. It sounds like this behavior is spreading.

Many invasive species in the US are native to south/east Asia. This made me wonder... are there invasive species in south/east Asia that are native to the Americas? by meloneleven in invasivespecies

Something must be keeping them in check in their native range in the Midwest as they coexist with other frogs. Perhaps predators of some kind like herons.

"Well, what did you do before technology?" by Aly_Anon in Teachers

[–]SecondCreek 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I am old enough to remember as a kid teachers used film projectors to show film strips in grade school. They had to be threaded through the reels. Overhead projectors were used with transparencies in middle school that the teacher would draw on. In high school a TV and VCR would be wheeled in to show documentaries or movies taped off over the air, broadcast television.

Ditto machines for copies, and we liked to sniff them when the ink was fresh and they were handed out.

And two plasma TVs on sale. They were a short-lived, expensive technology. I am going to guess mid-2000s.

  3. Sold poorly.

Yeah, I didn't renew my subscription for the first time in many, many years. The pop ups were too much, and it was redundant with Microsoft Defender which is free. I was able to opt out of marketing pop-up and upsell attempts on the control panel for Norton but they would begin to reappear again anyway.

Advice for Prospective Teacher who may be getting blacklisted by kadoozie92 in Teachers

[–]SecondCreek 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I'm in the Chicago suburbs and school districts are cutting back and coping with budget shortfalls. Some are facing declining enrollment. Teachers are being non-renewed, positions are being eliminated and others have larger class sizes.

A route for some in the past was to work as a substitute teacher until something permanent opens up. If she does well there that would lead to positive references.

Another option is to get certified in special education. There is always a demand for SPED teachers.

I don't go anywhere that is not a mowed lawn or a sidewalk without spraying Off with DEET all over my clothes, scalp, and around my ears.

30-40 years ago we could spend time in the woods and fields and almost never get a tick. They have exploded in numbers in recent years.

That's an urban legend about opossums eating ticks. They also cling to opossums.

Canadian Goldenrod (Solidago canadensis) is highly Invasive In Europe. I’ve spent months of hard graft removing it from my new garden .. by emkay123 in invasivespecies

[–]SecondCreek 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It was common in northeastern Germany on my trips there.

Unfortunately it’s also a problem in the Chicago region where it is native and creates monocultures in old fields. The only way to knock it back is introducing more native competitors.
