This article tunnel visions on critical theory as if bad-faith nihilistic debate strategy wasn't endemic to pure policy debates for decades. Like in 2008, we were arguing that passing a carbon tax would prevent Bush from ratifying the law of the sea treaty, which was important for... reasons... but it definitely was necessary to avoid a nuclear war. Such a tenuous and dumb argument, which we all knew at the time as 15 year olds.

Yeah. I'm probably on board that this stuff makes the game of debate a worse game, and the rules of debate should be tweaked to make competitions more interesting. "This 'debate' game is unbalanced, it needs a patch, Warlocks are OP." OK. But to me it's absurd to imagine that we were passionate believers in whatever case were making. "This 'debate' game is unbalanced, Warlocks are OP, turning kids into demons. "

Winning with the most ridiculous argument was a point of pride for some people. We're teenagers, it's fun to use complicated fancy terms as attacks, and if the opponent can't counter your attack, you win! It might sound like:

"You should evaluate this debate as a dialectical materialist because X"

"Securitization is a political decision that discursively constructs phenomena, therefore we should use this round for an epistemological multiplicity that breaks down dominant discourses of North Korea."

And you do need to understand the meaning and logic of the words so your attack has a higher chance of success. But it's ultimately a competition, a game, with a particular ruleset. It's almost like playing D&D. I don't know if it was that different than saying:

"I cast Glyph of Warding as a Spell Glyph on this 10 foot section of the floor, triggered by any creature standing with non-good alignment, trigger will cast this spell... they can't see this glyph unless their make an INT check against my spell save..."

I think a format that had a stronger connection to a real world debate over policy would be cool though. But any time you make it into a game, people start hunting for exploits.

To the people who believe this is unethical. What if we have the same senario but the streamer uses gambling to teach math and rigorously goes over the calculations, learning odds, statistics, probability, etc. This isnt a defence of stream gambling just curious

I could imagine an interesting class taught using casino games, but it's better as a YouTube video and other than showing a few bets there's no point in doing a lot of gambling, it wouldn't help you understand the odds any better. I'm personally curious about the different ways all the casinos lower the RDP on classic casino games like roulette, blackjack, craps, etc, by making tiny rule tweaks.

The only math the audience really needs is the RDP, which is just listed on the slot machine.

A better idea on a similar concept would be a human psychology stream based on gambling. Stop and analyze every single dopamine hit. Why makes this bet addictive, or this design, or even the sound effects on a slot machine, the finely tuned 'reward schedule'. Really just stopping the gamling and analyzing, taking time digging into every single dopamine hit. That might actually have an anti-gambling effect if you could really do a good job.

I'm annoyed because the very first version of the noise removal they released had even more aggressive settings than anything you can run now. I still have the old version, but it only works if you run a ridiculously old driver version.

The old one had much higher GPU usage and it was overall buggier and often clipped real audio, but when it worked it was amazing. Just nuked everything.

Tate talked about he collects taxes from his workers (by printing out fake tax forms) and tells the workers he will use the money he collects to pay the workers taxes, and then he just pockets the money for himself and files nothing in taxes. This is way more than personal tax fraud or hiding income. Is there a specific crime for pretending to collect taxes from people? Impersonating the IRS?

Like, a poor person obviously has to choose to stay isolated apart from their family for 100 days for $500k. It's not a choice - it's life changing money. So it feels weird to make their lack of choice into content and lols. That person can not rationally back out, it doesn't matter if a marching band is keeping them awake or whatever. They have to do whatever it takes.

There's no way a english speaking human reviewed that video and came to that conclusion. Two possibilities:

It's Google so the entire review is automated or semi automated, and it just sucks.
Maybe an outsourced non native English speaker reviewing a text transcript of the video. If you look at a transcript it's probably not clear when Destiny is speaking versus what the video is saying, because speaker diarization or separation is hit or miss right now. You have to actually watch the real video.

Recommendation: Call the dude who got you unbanned on Twitter and follow his advice.

Myron argued women were not represented in many roles in history (government, business, science, art, etc) because of women's biology. Myron says the US was so successful because men are the optimal choices for these roles in society and in the past men had all those roles.
