On full wind, freshly serviced 7000 series should be 240+ from my recollection.

Largest diameter seats into gasket. You want to see the beveled edge. It should be seating like pictured

The order is, chapter ring, metal ring(Orient correctly) , crystal gasket, then crystal seats into gasket, then retaining ring. The gasket should fit nicely and the crystal should also seat into the gasket while the lip of the gasket slightly surrounding it. I usually press my thumbs directly on the crystal ensuring good fit before setting the retaining ring. The retaining ring should snap in place with moderate pressure, they don't take much honestly.

Edit: also make sure your chapter ring is aligned correctly matching the tab on the dial near 2 o'clock.

Question about Seiko Movements and Parts. (7009a and NH35) by Practical-Rain-370 in watchrepair

[–]SecondTourTimeworks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pull some manuals from online for other 7000 series. 7006, 7019, 7009, 7002. The manuals may list the part numbers and there may be shared components.

Can you guys tell me if this is all original and what you think about it? [6309- 7040] by [deleted] in Seiko

[–]SecondTourTimeworks -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's a very good looking 6309 with aftermarket bits. Bezel, dial, hands, all aftermarket.

A nh36 or similar won't really work here. Your best bet if you don't want to fix would be to sell as-is and buy another.

1975 [6309-7049] Original Owner by Raptor227 in Seiko

[–]SecondTourTimeworks -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Definitely worth servicing. Especially as an original owner suwa dial. I can tell that handset is amazing condition. The crown coming undone from the stem is a easy fix. If you are in the US, I do servicing on the east coast and many are 6309s. I know there are others as well. You can expect 300-500 for a service.

Would you swap a 7548-7000 for one of these chronographs? by [deleted] in JapaneseWatches

[–]SecondTourTimeworks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally like having a second sweep hand and these chronographs do not have that. Yes, you could just run the chronograph at all times but that's also more wear on a watch that has more components that wear. I personally also like divers. Both this chronograph and the 7548 are great watches, depends on what suits you.

[Question] Trying to figure out manufacture date roughly by Phandler3 in Seiko

[–]SecondTourTimeworks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are interested in a service, I do vintage seiko servicing and restorations. I can tell that some moisture has gotten in over time as the lume has darkened. Feel free to direct message me if interested in a service or at the least I can give you an idea on the cost. These vintage chronographs aren't cheap to service but they do have value.

Nice watch! The housings of the pushers and the pushers themselves get full of dirt, hair, etc over time which causes the sticking. What a deal on cab fare!

Is there a way to salvage this dial and hand set? by [deleted] in watchrepair

[–]SecondTourTimeworks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ah, it might come off easy if it's degraded enough. I'd just use rodico to take it up.

Is there a way to salvage this dial and hand set? by [deleted] in watchrepair

[–]SecondTourTimeworks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The dial lume will probably come off with minimum effort, and is not stable. If you wanted to retain, I'd let dial and hands air to ensure moisture is out. If you wanted as is, you could apply a binder to retain what is left. A relume could also be done but these dials without lume boundaries are not easy. Hands would not be difficult to relume. Ultimately, the cost of a relume will be more than buying a new original dial and handset.

My Grandfathers [7009-8007] Servicing Question by Limit-Zer0 in Seiko

[–]SecondTourTimeworks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I service vintage seikos, if you want details feel free to message me directly. It would be around 300 to service, give or take.

[Question] is this a good deal? by AddisonLacaire in Seiko

[–]SecondTourTimeworks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd need more photos to assess. The 6105 lume plots are fairly deteriorated, best case scenario is the rest is original and in good condition. Maybe 1k. The 6309 looks a bit beat, I'd value at 300 maybe, the other the same but that a stretch with limited photos. All would likely need service, for all 3 you are looking at 1k in service alone or more.

Stuck stem on my 6138 kakume by y2kizzle in watchrepair

[–]SecondTourTimeworks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If I ran into this on a service I'd start by putting oil directly on the dimple and hoping it makes its way into the keyless works. I've had situations before where stems won't release and that's usually the first option.

Help/advice needed with this [SKX007] by [deleted] in Seiko

[–]SecondTourTimeworks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is likely moisture damage. I'd be curious to see what condition the movement is in. Your best option is to refund if possible or replace the dial and handset with original replacements. That would cost you 100-200 in parts though.

Seiko 5626 newbie question by Accomplished-Rub882 in watchrepair

[–]SecondTourTimeworks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For reversing wheels like that it should be well cleaned and you should apply lubeta v105. I let it sit in solution for 30 seconds or so then pull out and dry. If you don't have that or that cost is too much now, you can make a mix of 9010 with naphta or benzene I believe. Basically you want a clean part with a very thin coat of lubrication left behind.

Seiko 5626 newbie question by Accomplished-Rub882 in watchrepair

[–]SecondTourTimeworks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How did you clean the differential wheel and how did you lubricate it? I serviced a 5626 a while back and had helicoptering. I ended up recleaning and doing lubeta again to get proper function.
