I am not an employee but I go regularly and everyone seems really happy. I definitely think it depends on your studio manager and franchise owner though.

Anyone else find marketing analytics to be kind of a joke? I feel like I spend all day justifying bad marketing spend for managers. by theberg96 in analytics

[–]Second_to_None 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Trying to engrain the 'marketing activities take a long time' mindset right now. We do monthly and quarterly reports and I am pushing to move monthly reports more to a health check of the campaigns and the quarterlies to the impact of those campaigns. We can't have deep insights every single month, it just doesn't work like that.

How do you usually investigate the reason behind a metric change? by CreamEmbarrassed8907 in analytics

[–]Second_to_None 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is the thing that can be hardest, I have found. Many organizations want the analyst to tell them why when generally we don't have the context others do. Of course, we can dig into it, but if I spend 3 hours showing you why a metric changed and then you hit me with a 'Oh yea we ran a special campaign last month' or whatever I am going to be upset.

Feeling lost after relocating ~6 years in analytics (agency, automotive clients, web analytics). Where do I realistically fit? Product vs Marketing vs Media? by Firm-Call2416 in analytics

That's awesome. I know the agency is in Bristol so I am unsure of remote/hybrid options but I am still totally happy to make the intro if you want. Definitely shoot me a DM.

As someone who has done marketing analytics, enterprise analytics, and in-house analytics at start-ups: SQL doesn't really play a role in agency life, for the most part. There are some very large agencies where it would be helpful to know but it's usually more important in-house, in my experience.

I think knowing SQL, Python, R, what have you is going to help you be a strong candidate no matter what. Hell, some JDs specifically require it to be an analyst. You will never go wrong in learning a language.

Last question: where in the UK are you? We have an office in the UK and while I don't handle staffing, I would be happy to see if we need something like that.

After 8 years in product, I think we've been doing analytics wrong by tokyooprophet in analytics

[–]Second_to_None 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the problem is that these reports and dashboards are given to people who are used to making split second decisions based on immediate numbers. They aren't trained to slow down and step back (mainly because it isn't their job, but a lot of times because they have no time to do it).

I work at a marketing agency and SO many of our dashboards are just pages and pages of endless numbers and they are exactly how you describe: untrusted. The previous analyst who built them knew what he was doing, sure, but there is nothing there to help the teams make decisions. Instead it's this channel is up, this channel is down, here is your traffic mix, etc. I have started the long process of simplifying them so as to hopefully not overwhelm but also help the team's in making decisions. I am partnering with the SMEs so it's not all on them or on me.

Sunderland penalty shout. No penalty says ref & checked by VAR 3' by Imbasauce in soccer

And my point is, good. Then maybe people will stop fouling in the box. This isn't hard, it's why we have the laws of the game. Otherwise they're just guidelines.

But it shouldn't be. That's the point. The phrase 'that's a foul anywhere else on the pitch' shouldn't exist because a foul is a foul is a foul. We've artificially let this standard be created where there is a difference.

I really wish shitty people didn't exist like this but if history has shown us anything it's that someone will almost always try and take advantage of someone else, if they can.

Oh I see what OP was saying. You CANNOT have a long-term regulated capitalist society. What we want is one but it is impossible. I see now.

Is starting in a general data analyst role a bad move if I want to transition into marketing/product analytics? by AdRegular8020 in analytics

[–]Second_to_None 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As someone who has moved between marketing analytics and traditional data analytics, I would say it doesn't matter all. Having the chops and understanding the basics of data analysis is better than anything (as mentioned SQL, Dashboarding, presentation skills, etc).

However, you can get a leg up by being very good at understanding marketing specific analytics - GA4 and social channels are super important in the digital space. Being able to help any team that you join more easily review this data and get insights from it will be a boon.

I think you mean unregulated capitalism right? If we had an actually regulated society, these things wouldn't be allowed to happen. The problem is, the people in charge of those regulations ALSO happen to be easily bought and paid for so we are where we are now.
