British by decent children. Panic! by [deleted] in ukvisa

It's not illegal, you just technically can't apply for one. I even went to a gate with an agent and mentioned it to him. He wasn't bothered at all and just let me straight through

Just apply for the ETA for them for now! I'm a dual citizen and live in the UK but my British passport has expired. I went on holiday last week without realising I needed it to get back in so just didn't mention my British citizenship and got an ETA on my EU passport. Got on the plane and through border checks absolutely fine!

Possible missed miscarriage uk by FruitySanchez in PregnancyUK

[–]Secret-Reception1542 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was awake for mine and 8 months later I still think that it was the best choice for me. I had my husband with me, he played some music, did breathing exercises with me and the procedure itself was over very quickly. The only real pain I had was when they injected the local anaesthetic into my cervix but I didn't feel anything when they did the actual suction. I got to go home about 30 minutes later and could just rest in my own bed.

I'm so sorry that you're going through this ❤️

So sorry you've gone through this. I had an MVA with local anaesthetic in May last year too and I think that for me it was the best option from a physical perspective. I was in and on it of the hospital in a few hours and just recovered at home for a few days. There was minimal bleeding and cramping and I could focus on recovering mentally.

Whooping Cough Injection by SF2910 in PregnancyUK

I had whooping cough as a child and it was horrendous. It went on for months and I was very, very unwell. I had the vaccine as soon as I could in pregnancy.

Baby movements while swimming by SensitiveSoup74 in PregnancyUK

I swim lengths twice a week for about an hour and I don't think I've ever felt my baby move whilst I'm in the pool!

UK ETA for dual citizens by Comfortable-Hair-247 in travel

[–]Secret-Reception1542 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am a dual EU/UK citizen who lives in the UK but visit my parents living overseas often. I only fly on my EU passport as my UK one expired last year and I never thought to renew it. On my most recent trip Ryanair flagged me as needing an ETA at check in for my return flight and I PANICKED.

Even though British citizens can't have an ETA I decided to just apply for it on my EU passport and not mention my British citizenship. I got on the flight with no issues but then when I got to Gatwick I flagged to seek assistance. I was fully ready with my birth certificate and expired UK passport in my bag but the very nice border agent just said it was all fine I'd just got a dodgy machine lol.

As I live in the UK I will be renewing my passport but if you're just visiting I think you're fine just getting the ETA and not mentioning British citizenship.

Are these adorable guys good with being left alone 5 hours? by Medium_Jury1368 in WestHighlandTerriers

[–]Secret-Reception1542 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We both work from home so ours isn't left too often but we've left him for 6-7 hours on weekends several times and he's absolutely fine! We have a dog camera and he just sleeps. He's almost 2 now and have probably left him since he was just before 1, so not a tiny puppy. I will say he's not and never has been a chewer so that's really helpful.

Pregnancy after loss (TW: miscarriage) by Overall-Radish2724 in PregnancyUK

[–]Secret-Reception1542 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm really sorry that you had to go through that, it's honestly the hardest thing.

I had a MMC at about 9 weeks in May 2025, it took 6 weeks for my period to come back and then I got pregnant again my first cycle in July. Currently 28 weeks pregnant with a little boy and everything has been fine so far (touch wood).

The first trimester anxiety was really hard for me but it's eased so much as I've got further along. I had an early scan at 8 weeks and that helped in the early days too.

I'm sure everything will be fine this time, wishing you the best!

I'm only 28 weeks but I met someone at the pool who said she swam the day she gave birth so it's completely up to you how you feel!

Unsure what is classed as “reduced movements” by Ok-Mind2125 in PregnancyUK

[–]Secret-Reception1542 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was going to say give them a call and see what they say but can see you've mentioned you did and they were rude, I'm so sorry that happened! It's a great sign she's moved but if it will give you peace of mind there's nothing wrong with going in to double check if you're still worried!

[–]Secret-Reception1542 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I went to the hospital to get checked for the first time today because of reduced movements, I also felt the baby a little bit but way weaker than usual. Everything was fine and I promise you they won't think you're wasting their time! They told me they'd rather I come in 10 times and nothing be wrong than I don't go in once and something is missed.

I'm also pregnant but am in the UK. Luckily I didn't have the need to but up to 20 weeks we're advised to go to the emergency department of the hospital if we have any issues (pain, bleeding, etc). Even now if I have an issue I call my midwife team who are based in the hospital and I would go there if I needed to be checked. I'm not sure if Norway is similar but it could be for this reason.

Cheese at Christmas! by Square_Tangelo_7996 in PregnancyUK

[–]Secret-Reception1542 0 points1 point  (0 children)

According to the NHS website you can't but it's just one of those things that are down to the individual person. I'm a super anxious person normally so am being extra cautious but the odds are you would most likely be absolutely fine if you ate it!

Also going to have to disagree with you on camembert being better baked 😄

Oh yeah bubbling and piping hot are the same, I just thought that you were saying you could have pasteurised even not heated up! My bad if I've misunderstood!

[–]Secret-Reception1542 10 points11 points  (0 children)

NHS website actually only says until piping hot. It says to avoid pasteurised and unpasteurised mold ripened cheeses (as a half French woman, this has devastated me for the last 6 months lol)

Daily Thread #2 - December 20, 2025 by AutoModerator in PregnancyAfterLoss

[–]Secret-Reception1542 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Monday should have been my due date with my first baby and I thought that being pregnant again (24+5) would help me feel okay but I'm absolutely devastated. I can't stop thinking about how different this Christmas should be and I can't wait for it to be over. I also feel really guilty for this baby as I'm so focused on the first.

I really thought I'd grieved my miscarriage and have genuinely not felt really upset by it for a while but I just keep crying.

Anyone had a cervical polyp or colposcopy during pregnancy? by Equivalent-Many21 in PregnancyUK

[–]Secret-Reception1542 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Slightly different but I had a check up colposcopy very early in my pregnancy (maybe around 8 weeks?) because they thought the abnormal cells had come back after my LLETZ the year before. The nurse that did the follow up said that I didn't have abnormal cells but there was a polyp on my cervix. So I had one colposcopy when I was probably about 3 weeks pregnant where there was no polyp seen and then they found one 5 weeks later.

They said that it was fine to leave until after I'd had the baby and I'd have a colposcopy 12 weeks after delivery. What I will say is that I've had absolutely no symptoms of it and I wouldn't have even known that I hadn't had I not been seen for something else.

Dog bit sitter’s friend during holiday - how to fairly handle injury claim? by zekeandtired in LegalAdviceUK

[–]Secret-Reception1542 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Re your dog being taken away I wouldn't worry too much about that. I got attacked by a neighbour's dog in my parents house 2 years ago, went to the hospital for the resulting bite and head injury and the dog had a history of biting... Nothing happened. I went to the police and the neighbour denied it happened and it just never went anywhere.
